A great hidden gem. Very good food but the true star attraction is the staff, they are very friendly and efficient. Family friendly and very central, I would recommend Goto to anyone.

It’d be better to make a reservation as they are usually quite full. I was lucky to get a seat without making reservation but the dining time was limited as they need to prepare for the customers with reservations. The broth and ramen taste so good and really love it! The tempura is great as the coating is light, would like to try their sushi next time!

Amazing restaurant. Incredible service and a great atmosphere! We truly recommend you to come here in Exeter. We ordered sushi and sashimi rice bowl and we would definitely come here again.

It was the first time I really tried japanese food. I have to say, I love it. Particularly like this little place in exeter. It felt authentic. For a small little place, it was busy.

Buzzing atmosphere, incredible food, but everything served all at once, so sushi we wanted to take our time over, savour and enjoy ariived at the same time as Warm terrakyi chicken and katsu curry. So we rushed to eat sushi then katsu curry cold by the time we ate.

Absolutely delicious!! I had a lovely vegan lunch and my friend a non vegan one. Pictured is the vegetarian ramen which is also vegan (really nice, creamy but still soy sauce flavoured), the vegetable tempura sushi roll and fried vegetable dumplings. I also had a Japanese genmai tea - green tea with toasted rice - so good! Very police and attentive staff - really impressed. Thanks again!

My first sushi at a Japanese restaurant. I wish I could give this restaurant more stars. Do not be put off by its location or the small building. Book to avoid disappointment as the restaurant was packed by 8pm. The food was beyond delicious. Fresh and beautifully presented. The staff were attentive and helpful. My only complaint was the kitchen closed at 9pm and I could have carried on eating... so book and get there early!!!

Goto is a great little Japanese restaurant, I think probably the best in Exeter although there's 1 more I still have to try. I went here for a nice lunch and had 3 courses of fried tofu, chicken dumplings and salmon sushi, finally a seafood noodle soup. This was served with Japanese green tea. I was really impressed with the restaurant, the service was quick and very friendly and helpful. The decor features interesting Japanese style art and murals on the wall. The food was all delicious, particularly I have to give the thumbs up to the sushi, easily the best sushi I've had in Exeter, and the seafood broth was delicious. On the entrance door there is an impressive list of accolades and awards the restaurant has won. The restaurant, staff and food comes across as a 5 star authentic Japanese experience, and if you're a fan of Asian cuisine then I fully recommend wandering down Fore Street to give this one a try.

We visited this great sushi place in Plymouth a few years ago, and always spoke about going back but never got round to it.. then we found out they’re now in Exeter! Had a lovely meal, everything was fresh, both sushi and the hot dishes. The soft shell crab was so delicious and crispy. The sushi was served at the right temperature (not too cold), rice was great with not too much in the rolls, even the avocado was sliced evenly and perfectly ripe. Can’t wait for the next special occasion for an excuse to come back! Only thing I would say is that the lighting is SUPER bright, it’s nice to see the food but maybe a lower watt bulb next time they need changing? 😆

We had a lovely meal at Goto tonight. Miso aubergine starter, mackerel sashimi and spicy California rolls were the highlights but everything was delicious and service friendly and attentive. Best sushi we've had in the UK by far. I would definitely recommend a visit.

This is a must-visit restaurant in Exeter, and I honestly cannot wait to come back. I studied in Japan for 12 months and this is certainly on the same level as the sushi that I was eating in Tokyo. For vegan sushi options, this has to be one of the best places in the United Kingdom. I visited on a Monday night and the place was very busy which suggests it's quite popular with the locals. I tried the Aubergine Nigiri, Inari (Tofu) Nigiri, Shiitake Nigiri and Avocado Nigiri and all were fantastic. The Aubergine Nigiri and Shiitake Nigiri were my favourite, unfortunately, they didn't have any of the Enoki Mushroom Nigiri on the night I visited but I'm sure it would have been fantastic. The girls that worked there were also incredibly welcoming and friendly. A fantastic experience.

First visit but hopefully not the last. Only takeaway this time but a wonderful taster for a repeat visit and dining in so able to enjoy more of the menu. Due to taking away the food we only ordered sushi. The menu presented a fantastic selection of different seafood in sashimi, nigiri and sushi roll form (no maki). The line caught mackerel and the turbot were lovely. Some of the best sushi I've eaten in a long while. Can't wait to try the ramen and appetisers. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Arigato gozaimasu.

what can i say… incredible! best sushi we’ve ever had, got about 6 dishes that added up to around £45.. tipped £5 so 50 all in. the service was INCREDIBLE! one of the nicest servers EVER! nothing was too much! you know it’s good when it’s full of Japanese natives! always wanted to try soft shell crab. and it was lovely! one dish wasn’t to our taste.. but the presentation was second to none and in no way being negative because it wasn’t to our PERSONAL taste. i’m sure it’s as good as all the other dishes. will 100% return and my partner won’t stop going on about it! only reason atmosphere is 4 star.. is we were the only english people in there, and didn’t really have anyone to talk too apart from the once again.. AMAZING waitress! price wise, we have nothing to compare it too.. but we’re more than happy with the bill. can’t wait to go back and try more fantastic dishes!

Unassuming on the exterior - you would probably just walk past if you didn't know better ........ don't let this put you off, the food is well worth going inside for. We, a table of three were booked for 6.30pm. By 7pm it was full - it's a small restaurant, so booking would definitely be advised. A wide ranging menu, although primarily sushi, sashimi or ramen is on offer. Portion-size was decent, quickly served, and of a good standard. Both Asahi and Kirin beers on offer (although only in 330ml format), and a selection of sake or plum wines for an authentic Japanese feel (non-Japanese alcoholic beverages also available). One starter, three main courses, three beers and two plum wines came to a little under £65, which isn't unreasonable. The location on New Bridge Street places you about a five minute walk from the city centre. If you fancy food cooked by a Japanese chef, or an alternative to Wagamama or Yo Sushi, then GoTo should tick all your boxes. They also offer take out.

I was starting to think I would never find a proper Japanese restaurant in Exeter until I found out Goto had opened here. They serve delicious sushi here, the staff were very friendly. I don't think this is Japanese owned but Japanese was definitely spoken there. Although this makes no difference, the quality was amazing. The menu does not have many options, which is a smart move for a new restaurant. What they do have, they have perfected. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town.

I've been waiting for so long for an authentic Japanese restaurant to open in Exeter. I lived in Japan so I know that wagamamas is NOT authentic and the others are not owned by Japanese or have a Japanese chef. I loved everything about the décor, the food and the absolutely lovely staff. They are so friendly and attentive. The tempura was amazing, the Tonkotsu Ramen was so yummy, the karage was really juicy and my daughter got to eat sea bass sushi..... what a treat to have something other than salmon, tuna and prawn 😊. Would love to have shabu shabu on the menu and my daughter says please can you do okonomiyaki 😃. We will be back. The difficulty for us will be staying away 😆
