The Rubbing House is a picturesque gastropub situated (literally) on the Epsom Racecourse; if you’re sitting outside you can actually see the winning post. Where location and ambience are concerned, this is a very, very special pub. The food at The Rubbing House has a distinctly Mediterranean twist to it, Greek particularly. Our table ordered their rustic Homemade Moussaka, a beautiful Prawn Linguini (weekly special), a Beef Bourguignon and good old English Bangers and Mash. I did my begging blogger’s round of the table, getting a taste of everything, and really liked the Prawn Linguini and the Beef Bourguignon. The Moussaka was pretty good too. The sausages were, well, sausages.
Morris. My wife and I enjoyed a super lunch with friends, food was great and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommended
Fab venue, good friendly atmosphere, ..can be pricey-but the food is worth it!
Wonderful cosy and unique restaurant... great exquisite and delicious varieties of food offerings.. friendly and efficient customer service... Great beer, wines, cocktails etc offerings... Not to mention delicious and beautiful looking deserts... Great all around... 👍🏼👏👌🤌
It was a Sunday lunch time. It was extremely busy, but the service was excellent. The choice from the menu (including roasts) was good; something for everyone. The food was tasty with large helpings, but only standard fare. Nothing special. I would certainly go again, but perhaps not for a special occasion.
Went for lunch and were delighted with the food and service. The liver and sea bass were excellent. The vegan food was very good, with a good selection of mains (although a bit more choice of vegan starters would have been nice). They went out of their way to make vegan espresso Martinis, which was most appreciated! A very enjoyable afternoon.
Great food here and what an amazing location right next to Epsom Downs racecourse.
Very crowded. Table inside for 6 of us was difficult to get in and out. Service fair food portions good but prices a bit high. Nice setting out in the garden mainly for light meals. Big bar area as well.Nice setting at the Epsom race course.
We went for dinner last night, it was very busy but staff were polite and efficient. Drinks were super and food was as always top quality. We tried the Ice Breaker IPA which was so so good! And love the bar mats 🤣. Food we had the baked Camembert to share and then the Gammon and the Chicken Slouvaki. All three were excellent, did take a little time but place was packed so to be excepted. Thank you very much to all and we will be back ! x
My friend & I made a last minute decision to go for lunch. She said she had been here before & the food is fantastic. She wasn't wrong!
When we arrived we were given the option of sitting inside or outside, we chose outside as it was gorgeous weather. The staff were very polite, professional and attentive, the food was absolutely delicious. I look forward to going back again as it is a beautiful location looking over the downs, very well presented and pleasurable to visit. Highly recommend 👌
Went for a work lunch with a colleague. Excellent beef pie, light flakey pastry, good quality (and sufficient) cuts of meat. Went down a treat with a pint of Speckled Hen!
Delicious food and really lovely staff. Beautiful setting on the Epsom downs with views of the grandstand and racecourse.

Visited for the 1st time on 4th June 23. Attentive staff, very professional table service. Ordered a toast beef dinner, generous portion of beef cooked beautifully, very juicy. Probably the best I've ever had with any roast dinner, anywhere! 3 for atmosphere as we ate outside, not inside but it was very relaxing. Just be mindful if it's your first visit that you have to announce your visit and vehicle registration at reception. I hadn't noticed the sign at the entrance, its quite high up, nor did the staff advise of this despite me and my friend being one of a few guests to arrive early and so I have had to obtain a statement from my bank to prove that my debit card was used as payment at the rubbing House and am appealing against the £100 penalty charge that came through my door. Apart from that, for an indulgent Sunday Roast treat, and exceptional service, highly recommend and I will be going back again!
Came in with a large group of about 15 people and everyone had a great time, looking forward to the next visit.
Decided to go there with colleagues after work for a drink and nibbles. Nice cosy place near Epsom Racecourse. Ample parking area. Overlooking the race track. Staff accommodating. We ordered and tried the meze platter. It was alright. Toilet is clean as well. Overall experience was good. Will be back to explore more.
The food was delicious and great value for money, prices are just right!!! The service is great and the venue perfect too!!!
Haven't been here for a while.
But the welcome from the staff was friendly as always. The service from our waitress was superb. The food and drinks were very good, I would recommend trying their cocktails.
Thanks
