Best pub in the area, bar none. Adnams Beers and good pub-fayre food options (when available), plus true traditional pub atmosphere and decor. Their Dry Hopped Lager the best on the market IMHO. Now, if only it was closer to Theydon...

From America visiting local friends. Absolutely love this place and the delicious food. Wish we had a pub like this in Minnesota. Will just have to come back ;-)

Good quality pub food at a good price and a selection of real ales. Last of the East End style pubs. Please don't change the layout! Please don't change to a gastro pub you have the restaurant next door for people who want to have posh food!☺☺

A proper pub. The sort we travel to the Lake District for, but we are lucky enough to have on our doorstep. Absolute gem!

This is a really special part of the world. Jane and Robin have maintained the quirkiness of this pub and is well worth a visit (not between 3-5 as it is closed)

In 2014 I had the pleasure to stay in the "Gate House" for a period of nearly 10 month. In the evenings, after work, I used to visit the Forest Gate Inn for a Guinesss or two. It was always a warm welcome and I felt nearly home, beeing invited by the "locals" fo a drink and having quite some good laughs. SKOAL!

Visited with a friend on Saturday evening. The open area outside gives it the feel of a pub on the village green. It's a nice, older building and had some quirky bits both outside and inside. The drinks and sevice were good bit we didnt eat there. Can't say I saw anyone eating but it was about 8pm when we arrived. We were able to park easily as well which helped. Nice, countryside pub which I will take the wife to one sunny evening.

The Forest Gate Inn never disappoints, I used to frequent it regularly. This was however the first visit back in over 13 years since I moved away, but I am happy to say nothing much has changed. It is still every bit as charming and quaint as I remembered it. Dog friendly, roaring fire, no slot machines, and a wall full of gorgeous books. They take card now and there is parking right outside. Very very perfect, quite possibly my favourite pub ever, and it was lovely to share a pint there with my Dad who is an avid walker and loves it too.

It’s a good place for break when you walk the Oak Trail or the walk around the Epping forest. There is clean toilet available next to the pub counter and some outdoor seating have umbrella so if you don’t want to sit under the sun that’s quite good in a hot day. Also it’s a pet friendly place :)

Dog friendly, good choice of ales, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. They do food here, we didn't eat but the staff enquired if we wanted to before they shut the kitchen, which was very thoughtful. We sat outside under cover as we had muddy boots from a forest walk and the weather was warm enough. We have been inside a few times , plenty of seating, great character

This is a lovely old pub not far (about a mile) from Epping High Street. It is tiny inside and most of the seating is outside. The three of us had sandwiches for lunch which were really tasty - coronation chicken, sausage and onion and cheese and pickle. We had good friendly service and would go back if in the area again. Please note there is very little parking for the pub.

A bustling pub full of locals with a huge garden space with plenty of room for all. The staff were friendly and the drinks were good value. Food was lovely however the crisps were a bit stale and salad a bit lacking with the sandwiches otherwise really lovely and good value for money
