Handy coffee shop/cafe in the Center of Elterwater. Great selection of cakes - lemon drizzle particularly good. Eclectic background music selection (possibly a little too loud for the rockier stuff)

I have passed Slates on many occassion. But finally paid them a visit (just opened when i arrived in Elterwater after a walk along from Skelwith bridge passing Skelwith force along the way)...
Anyhoo.. Slates is an absolute tremendous place if you fancy some quality food & their Beans on Sourdough with a fried duck egg was deliciously superb & fills a hole nicely.
Slates is well worth a visit or for me a return visit...
Update.. the return visit has happened & a seriously scrumcious pizza it was too

Went in by chance and glad we did.
Very busy which is a sign of quality food.
After browsing the menu both of us opted for wild mushrooms on sourdough toast.we asked if we could have a poached duck egg.no problem.
When our food arrived it did not disappoint.the mushrooms were poached in a rich creamy tarragon sauce(I love tarragon),the egg was poached to perfection.
Lovely food, very nice and friendly staff.
Will be going again
