Perfect location, easily accessible from all parts of the city. With cheap street parking available in front of the restaurant.
Tasty Pakistani meals. Specially chicken dishes and Roti. Service is quick and professional. Environment is like a Pakistani wedding reception with ancient English building combination. Clean table clothes, napkins and cutlery with huge dinning space.
Food was exceptional, the flavours were amazing. The grilled platter was amazing. All elements cooked really well. The chicken curry was really tasty too and to finish off we had some desi chai.
Husband loved the food. I found it to be tasty but a bit too spicy.
Atmosphere was unpleasant with loud music and bright lights.
Brilliant food! Been there twice and both times it had been ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! We had nihari, haleem and peri chickens, all dishes were SO DELICIOUS, service was great too! Will be back
Delicious food, good vibe and very friendly staff. We ordered Lahori Karahi and Chapli kabab on the recommendation of Mr Asad, a very kind waitor. We were amazed by the taste as well as the quantity of food. Nice big portions. Overall a very memorable experience, will definitely visit again.
Wow, delicious food! The lamb, special nan, and mango lassi were outstanding. The service was also very good. We were in a very big group and everything was done with so much patience and kindness. The owner also welcomed us very warmly and with a big smile. Thank you for such a great experience!
Best Biryani I had in the UK. We had the Matka Biryani which was so succulent and just delicious. The Mango Lassi is also very good and reasonably priced.
Totally recommend if you are looking for incredible Pakistani, Afghani or Indian food in Edinburgh.
Amazing food, really authentic and fresh. Great service and super nice atmosphere. Must try chapli kebab and charsi chicken it was delicious. Plus it’s all at an affordable price. Can totally recommend it and will definitely come back again
If you are looking for authentic Indian/Pakistani/Afghani food the sort that would back in the country, this is the place to go.
The place specialises in food which is from the west of Pakistan, and from Afghanistan, but now is popular all over Pakistan.
In Edinburgh you will find Indian food which is a western version of the food, might be similar but is never the same. You can have it to kill the nostalgia. But this one actually has the taste that you would get back in the country.
I have been here twice in 2 weeks, first time I was so impressed that I told the owner I shall be posting a review, as last time I didn't take any pictures of the food, not knowing what to expect from it.
This time I intentionally took pictures to showcase what we got.
The nan bread that you see is a single nan bread. HUGE!
The rice dish is the Kabuli Palau.
The other is a half kg chicken karahi and then there is half kg Namkeen (Salty) lamb karahi. Remember to ask to keep it less spicy if you are not native, the spicy were also at authentic levels and not toned down.
The previous time we also tried Chapli Kebab which was delicious and had a massive portion.
The owner is pretty approachable and easy going, I called to reserve a table and he remembered me from the first visit; thanks to the cordial chat.
Normally I would write long reviews but Edinburgh deserved a place like this, and we need to support such establishments to keep them going or to expand to get good food choices in the city.
So far we have tried about 5 main dishes from the Menu and with the Consistent authentic taste, I think it would be safe to presume that the rest would be good too.
There are a few dishes that they serve only with 1 day advance notice. The more traditional ones I suppose. One of them I would like to try is the Lamb Roosh, but I haven't had a chance to plan a day in advance. That's the next on my list.
Looking at the Menu you might find it a bit on the higher side, but the quantity makes up for it, the portions are generous.
We got there for a late dinner, but the staff was kind enough to provide a wonderful meal. Maybe the best samosas I've ever had and some delicious lamb and chicken dishes. Also, sesame naan, where have you been all my life!
Planned to try Lahori masala fish dish but ended up with the lunch buffet (10 pounds) the prices attracted me.
Shinwari offers 9 things to try including 2 rices, 1 chickpea, 2 chicken , 1 pakora , 1potato , nan and the last one I forgot the name. No salad or dessert in buffet unfortunately.
Never tried Pakistani cuisine before so no comparison but I really enjoy it .The chicken curry is a star with the softness and juiciness, the curry sauce is also flavorful, pakora also standout and the kabuli rice is really tasty as well. My friend really like it.
The staffs are welcoming and informative, plenty of tables to select. The toilet is not great but still hygienic.
For savvy foodies, I think this restaurant is worth to visit definitely. I will try fish dish next time.
Tired from Arthur's seat and Edinburgh castle walks, stumbled upon this desi place. Ordered a Charsi Karahi & Mixed Grill, and it made us forget the miserable food we had for the last few days in the highlands. The food tasted authentic Afghani. Lamb chops and kaboodeih were the highlight of grill.
And then the cherry on top was ice cream. I have never tasted such amazing "kulfi flavour" ice cream anywhere. It's an excellent restaurant to dine out.
Food is always awesome. We visit it often. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service. Service is quick, very friendly and courteous. The restaurant is neat and clean. Highly recommended 😊
We stayed at a hotel nearby and walked past it many times during our stay. It looked busy at dinner time. We had chicken and lamb dishes which were both amazing and very rich in flavour. Garlic naan bread came so big a portion. Chai to finish was really comfy. Very gentle and warm service too.
