Waitress are nice, we can ask and request not to include pork. Food taste nice, as well as the ambiance.
It was my first time coming here. We were greeted and seated immediately. The service was good and the food was good. My rice could have been hotter it was barely warm. It would have been nice if the prawns were cooked with the rice rather than heated up and placed on top of the rice.
Thought we'd try this place as we were passing with enough time to spare between shows at the fringe. The staff are lovely, the place is clean and atmosphere relaxing and the FOOD, well probably the best Chinese I've ever had.
Food was flavorful as expected. The favorite was the aubergine with garlic. The staff could be a bit more attentive especially when you’re seated a big away from the reception area but overall, they are sweet and friendly.
San Chuan in Potterow, Edinburgh, holds a special place as our favorite Chinese restaurant. It consistently delivers authentic flavors and boasts an exquisite variety of dishes that leave us satisfied 98% of the time. However, on this occasion, I decided to try the sesame prawn toast (£12), and I must say, I found it rather disappointing. The portion size was notably small, with only three tiny toasts, making it feel unjust for the price.
On a more positive note, the other dishes we ordered, such as the beef chow mein, black bean sauce, and Cantones Lamb stew, were outstanding. The flavors were spot-on, and the generous portions left us more than content. I highly recommend trying these dishes.
In summary, San Chuan remains a fantastic choice for authentic Chinese cuisine in Edinburgh. While the sesame prawn toast fell short of expectations in terms of value for money, the overall experience and the other menu options make it a dining destination worth returning to.
Nice clean place with lot of space and very large menu. The hostess was very kind and professional. I would just suggest to add a wee description to the dishes with the level of spice. We ended up ordering very spicy food and we do enjoy spicy food but this was another level of hot.
A great restaurant with a delicious and impressive range of options. A bit dumplings, spring rolls, noodles, traditional meat and seafood, it just goes really well in a nice and calm atmosphere. It's located right across Edinburgh University, so there is a decent amount of people coming in to keep things fresh. Overall, I'm giving 5 stars because it was an enjoyable experience and the food was tasty. I'd look stop by again when I come around for work again.
A good place for authentic Chinese cuisine adjacent to the University of Edinburgh. I heard some locals saying there are different menus targeting people of different background. In case, definitely go for the menu with Chinese and you would find a greater range of authentic dishes. I tried different regional dishes including Cantonese, all ingredients were all well marinated, and I was particularly impressed by the beef brisket which was really juicy and tender.
Very busy on Saturday evening. We didn't make a reservation, we were lucky enough to get the table, just for an hour though. Lots of Chinese people, most are students. Food come fast, saying that the restaurant is full. Main is around £13-£15. Fried rice tastes nice but not cooked well, some still hard.
We had a fabulous time here celebrating my mons 70th! The meal, service, and environment were perfect. Very helpful and friendly staff 😊 as well.
