This place provides single origin specialty coffee and is highly recommended for any serious coffee drinker. I asked the barista for recommendation and he in turn asked for my preferences, then brew an espresso that had an unique apricot nose with a long fruity acidic that balanced out nicely. The last time I had anything similar was in Kyoto. Absolutely loved it - thanks barista!

Great coffee! Coffee is roasted from experimental fermentation coffee beans. Tried one that had sangria tasting notes and another that had distinct plum tasting notes. Awesomeness here. Top 3 in Edinburgh!

Such a great little coffee shop, truly delightful for any coffee lover. I don’t recall ever having such a flavorful flat white, and it was so cool to chat with the same person who roasted the beans - they really know their stuff. Also love the atmosphere, it feels like you’re in a friends kitchen and they’re making it for you. definitely has become a go to spot in edinburgh

I prefer flat white more than filter. Flat white has flower and fruit flavour mixed🌸 The barista is nice and friendly!✊ This coffee shop is just located the back of the castle. This area also has great restaurants 👍

The home roasted beans are sensational! I have never in my life drank coffee like this, a long black with a smell of fruit and an indescribable taste. This place is pure magic, the barista/owner is a passionate and likeable person. If I had more stars to give I would.

One of the nicest coffees I’ve ever had. I’m only spending a few days in Edinburgh so I went back the next day to get a batch. I’m a complete novice when it comes making coffee and asked for some advice. Well I’m currently at home making my own and it is bloody lovely. Already got their website saved and will be ordering more. Cheers!

This place has instantly become my favourite coffee spot in Edinburgh from the first visit. I was literally blown away by their flat white, which was unbelievably aromatic and flavourful. I’ve tried other menus as well (pour over and hot choc) and they were also out of this world. I really couldn’t ask for more.

Great place for specialty coffee which they roast themselves. Rotating coffee beans so there’s always something new to try. Staff very passionate and knowledgeable about coffee. I think it’s one of the best in Edinburgh

Great tasting coffee. If you are fussy about your coffee you will really appreciate the amazing flavours of the source roasters. Really busy when I was there but worth it to get good coffee. Good cakes too

In my experience, Source are consistently roasting and serving the best specialty coffee you'll find in Edinburgh right now. They've always got some mind-blowing espresso on and a great selection of retail coffee - their prices are also ridiculously cheap considering the coffee they're serving. If you're after something special then Source are well worth a visit.

The most amazing coffee I have had in Edinburgh and possibly the best coffee I have ever had. Fermented beans imported by the shop owner directly from farmers in Columbia and across the world, and then hand roasted in East Lothian. I have had a lot of expensive coffee, but none as distinctive as the brew at The Source. If you love coffee then don't miss your chance to have an espresso at this place.

We headed here before catching a train from Waverley. They use coffee roasted themselves and have excellent knowledge of their product. We had a flat white (pictured) and cappuccino using their Kenyan blend, and both were excellent. A decaf espresso followed and this had an interesting complexity not often found in decaf. Despite not really needing any more beans at home for a while, I had to grab a bag and was glad to hear they offer free postage. There was a small range of food on offer but it's clearly been selected carefully. The jammy dodger cookie (pictured on the train) was very special but the real star was the sandwich. The fried aubergine option was the best sandwich I've had in a very long time. The owner is very knowledgeable and shares what he knows freely, helped by the counterless design. This made for a less formal space and encouraged interaction. Overall, this was a great visit and I'll definitely be returning next time I'm in Edinburgh.

The best coffee I've ever had! This is coffee mastery to an unprecedented level. The expresso was flavourful, complex in taste, just at the right temperature, and an experience lasting long after the sip of this exquisite coffee. To top it off, it was served by such a kind and knowledgeable host, who is clearly eager to share his passion for this black nectar from its roasting process to the milligrams of coffee ground that each serving must be made from. This coffee shop is now part of a closed circle of food & drinks shops that I feel compelled to visit every time I'm passing by the city centre.

Best roastery in town by far! The owner sources, perfectly roasts and wisely extracts the beans. The selection is just unbelievable! We had one of the best coffee of our lives. If you love coffee this is the place!

The best coffee roastery in Edinburgh. Highly espresso focused with the best SOE coffee from Colombia and other places, roasted by the owner himself. The menu is in Australian style because that's where the owner is from. The shop is coffee focused with several cakes and pastries selection. There are non-dairy (oat milk) for flat white. Dogs are well welcome for the shop. For espresso they are using a Slayer and the baristas made their espresso consistent and delicious. For pour over they are using Kalita which gives a strong body. The coffee are usually in light roast with clear acidicty notes. Highly recommend to home baristas since their coffee works for every types of brewing. The also serve hot chocolate, chai latte, mocha latte and tea for your friends who don't wanna do coffee in a coffee shop. They don't serve sugar or syrup, and their coffee does not need those to be taste perfect. Highly recommend for coffee lovers.

Most fruity espresso i’ve ever tasted. I visited twice, one to taste the latte and one to come back just to buy espresso beans. Fast services & just enough space to take away cup of coffee
