Fantastic! Five stars doesn’t seem like enough for the service or the food. Just delicious. Not just as vegetarian food, but as food-food for anyone who loves flavour. The staff were all so lovely too. An excellent start to my trip. Oh, and the cocktails - chef’s kiss!
I’ve lived in Edinburgh for two years but have never been so impressed by a restaurant as I was yesterday.
I’m vegan, and my friend is veggie and gluten intolerant, and I don’t think we’ve ever been so spoilt for choice: not only was most of the menu suitable for us off the bat, but the wonderful staff were able to advise us on how we could make certain items suitable.
We had a selection of items from across the menu: particularly lovely was the soup! Gorgeous bread, fresh salads… what more could you want??? All freshly made on site.
Really chilled atmosphere, lovely decor. All the pleasures of being somewhere very upmarket but without unnecessary frivolities. Reasonably priced too.
So impressed by the service- we were served by Louise and Becky, who were genuinely so helpful and nice. Attentive but not overbearing- it’s a hard balance to get right but they did it perfectly.
Thank you Henderson’s- we will be back! 💕
Expected more for the price. Overall, a delightful experience but nothing stood out to me as truly exceptional other than the lavender honey sorbet (which I failed to take a picture of). The ambiance was great and the staff were really friendly. Yet, I couldn’t help but be a little disappointed. Perhaps, it’s my expectation for such innovative restaurant that failed me.
New favourite restaurant, aside from David Bann. Exceeded expectations. Perfect date night. Unique, attractive interior design. Most consistent high-quality staff I’ve experienced in years—everyone I came into contact with was professional, friendly, and well trained with a refreshing authenticity about them. Phenomenal menu. Positively innovative drink options—only ever been to one other place in the UK that had a rhubarb and custard cocktail, which is my favourite. Cannot wait to return. 💪🏽🏆
Excellent vegetarian and vegan cooking. Meat eaters should definitely give it a try! The haggis and the burger were really tasty. Worth mentioning the wonderful chips!
The cocktails are fantastic too. Welcoming and friendly staff. I was delighted to eat real chocolate mousse again! The place we love coming to every time we're in Edinburgh.
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! Highly recommended!
Henderson is one of our latest discovered gems in the city. Watching the vegetarian/vegan scene growing fast in Edinburgh, we wanted to give it a try and go away from the more mainstream cuisines.
First interaction was over the phone as I tried to book a table last minute on a Saturday. The gentleman over the phone (name Barry) was very helpful and he helped us with providing alternatives to get us a table. Getting there, we were very positively impressed of how friendly were all the people working there.
Coming to the food, I would easily say that we were highly impressed! The quality of the dishes and the combination of flavours were so spot on! We were a mixed group of vegetarians and non-vegetarians and we all were commenting positive our dishes and sides.
Personality as a non-vegetarian, I was highly surprised by the fact the I didn't miss at all the lack of non-vegetarian ingredients. I will be most definitely going back and highly recommending the place. Give it a try and you will definitely will not be disappointed.
P.S. Thank you Barry and all the Henderson team for the beautiful night.
Our first meal in Edinburgh and it remained the most memorable. Everything I had was amazing, fresh, full of flavour. My non-vegan friends were full of praise. + the staff was suuuuuper nice and loved the decoration of the space. TOP NOTCH
Most people in the USA don’t expect culinary innovation to come out of Scotland, but this restaurant genuinely shines with regards to quality, inventiveness, and skill in farm to table cooking.
Henderson’s specializes in creating unexpected combinations of vegetarian ingredients to reproduce traditional dishes like haggis (with root mash, whisky, tarragon creme, caramelized red onions) and tagine (jackfruit and chickpeas with apricot and tahini). While the combination of flavors can be surprising, everything worked. In many ways, this may be the reincarnation of Portland Oregon’s Malka (Rest in peace) across the pond.
This is not bland vegan cooking. The dishes are EXTREMELY ingredient and effort intensive, while being large in portion and an incredible value for the meal we had. Above all, the combination of ambiance, style, taste, and vibrant preparation are singular.
A little off the beaten track but so well worth the walk out of town. The food was superb, the service was immaculate and the atmosphere was relaxed and very comfortable. Highly recommend visiting - you won’t be disappointed!
A delicious, fresh and colorful dinner, served by a nice and professional staff. The place is very nice and the cocktails 🍸 were excellent. We were really happy with the fact that our server knew we were vegan (from the lady who sat us) and always mentioned our dish is vegan when it was served. Definitely go here if you’re looking for fresh, unique and delicious food.
