Beautiful taproom with an awesome view of the brewery. Chillout music far away from the tourists. Very good draft beers. Order half ones and taste twice as much.
Great place to booze! The taproom is right in the brewery, with a modern industrial charme and a lot of love in it. Great staff, and especially: great beer. The Breakfast IPA was seriously one of the best brews I had this year. Cheers!
Moonwake is a cool place and that's my first tip.
Tip: It gets cold here, even under the heat lamps but bring a coat and come anyway.
This is a review of the Moonwalk Taproom. Yeah, there's a brewery here and from those clean and shiny vats come some great tasting, local and craft beer.
But what else can I say about the brewery?
I suppose I could say that the open entrance space has been used for a local pop up market and it was petite but fun. There were just a few stalls but each one was local, quality and good.
The main reason, unless you want to look at shiny vats, to visit is the taproom.
The taproom is up a flight of stairs, is on a balcony and overlooks the brewery. Isn't that a great place to enjoy freshly poured pints?
Staff here are friendly and since they make the beer on offer are way more involved than some city centre franchise clone. You can meet the owners here.
Order at the bar or at the table. I've talked through what I feel like and have had recommendations.
Tip: Moonwake is a local treasure, isn't huge so you can strike out and turn up when there are no free tables. Consider getting in touch if you want to bring the office or a group of friends.
Pizza! For at least half the time I've been drinking here there's been a deal with Pizza Geeks. That's a brilliant local pizzeria. Use their app to do an "at table" order.
Frankly, beer from the brewery served with freshly made pizza carried over the bridge from the local restaurant is amazing.
Tip: Follow Moonwake on social media. They're lovely, transparent, informative and it's the best place to keep up with their latest brews and events.
I'm a fan but I'm yet to try their e-commerce offer. If I buy a crate of their beer then I'd drink it!
[May 22 update - even better with beer garden]
[September 22 update - still good]
[April 23 update - really enjoy their market events, recommend following on social to find out about them]
[July 23 update - growing and successful but still feels indie and authentic]
[Overly 23 update - Moonwake Beers are superb and they have a knack for great guest taps too]
Stopped in and had two great pints (pictured here, the Amarillo DDH Pale). Really impressed by the craft beer scene in Edinburgh on my recent visit. As a Californian I take my beer seriously, and so do they. Also just a nice place to chill out front and watch the clouds roll in as I did last Saturday
Very simple taproom. The beer you will be pleased to know is fresh and excellent. The wildly named lager is called , yes you guessed 'lager'. It's fresh, simply hopped, has a great head, and has a nice long finish. Highly recommended.
Staying at a nearby hotel and great to find a local brewery and tap room. Beer choice excellent with friendly staff and authentic brewery atmosphere! Didn’t eat
Nice start to the beer day! Crisp refreshing beer in the upstairs taproom with a view over the steelwork.
Their weissbier is very good too.
Fantastic beer and very friendly staff. Will be going back
Moonwake is the absolute high bar for beer in Edinburgh. Now, I am not speaking about the actual flavour of the beer, that's a personal choice. I'm speaking about the quality of the serve. Moonwake serves the freshest most delicious beer in all of Edinburgh.
Fact. It is just excellent. I've been her 15 times over the last year and it's always excellent, really really excellent. I am a Pale Ale, IPA guy, but their selection is fantastic.
Come down and give a local brewery your money, trust me it's worth it.
Another excellent Taproom in the city. Did a crawl around many while we were there and this place was as good as any we visited. Nice atmosphere and ample seating
Walked in on an early Saturday enjoyed the Breakfast IPA. Which was very tasty.
We went here a bit late but had a great beer and the staff were lovely. We'll definitely be back as the pizza smelled amazing!
Great beer, lovely staff. Very cool brewery.
Was travelling around Scotland and picked up a case of Pale Ales to take with me - they were excellent
Best beer I’ve had in the UK as an American tourist from the West Coast.
Having lived in the Czech Republic, it definitely have trained my taste bud for beers. I have been let down by beers here in Edinburgh. But finally, I found some great beer here at Moonwake! I am so happy now I know where to go for a proper beer.
Stunning little place! Staff are all lovely, and the atmosphere is great! All the beers I've tried have been ace - the rye IPA is a must try, and the lager is super smooth and clean. Highly recommend popping by
Beautiful taproom with amazing staff
