Drawn in by the promise of Chicken Noodle Soup painted colourfully on the windows I found myself in the Broughton Street branch of New Town Deli. The staff were very courteous, the food was fresh and hearty and the soup was just what the doctor ordered on a cold, cold, cold (did I mention cold?) January noon-time.

They offer an array of deli goods and meats, hot and cold options, make your own salad boxes and wonderfully reasonable prices. Somehow, in this world where buying a quick lunch can be such an exercise in conveyor belt mentality, I felt valued as a customer. Twas a very nice thing to feel and they deserve a bally good rating for it!

This location doesn’t have the breakfast offerings shown on the website, but nonetheless what we did get (paninis and coffee) were tasty. Just not exactly what we were after. Service was good as well.

Such a lovely cafe. Incredibly efficient service from a solo barista. Loads of delicious cake options with a wide variety of gluten free options. Easy access with a pram too. I will definitely be back.

Had a really great lunch here - fab veggie/vegan options, and delicious coffee & cakes. It was a busy afternoon when I visited but the solo Barista did a an awesome job serving everyone quickly. Excellent customer service, definitely recommend.

The New Town Deli has a large outdoor seating area positioned on a wide paved corner which allows customers to bask in the sunshine in a chilled and spacious environment. We ordered flatbread with falafel/hummus/roast peppers/cholula and breakfast burrito chorizo/scrambled eggs/mull cheddar/jalapeno/spinach. The burrito came, not as a flour tortilla, but as a dish served on another flatbread. Overall, the dishes were quite enjoyable. The base sauces lifted the dishes and the salads contained good flavours and textures. They were sufficiently different from other menus that we would try these combinations again. The flatbreads were hard to cut; non-sharp knives or rubbery flatbread? The falafel was a bit too greasy. The table tops were wooden strips with large gaps which meant any dropped food {which in our case is usually plentiful} goes straight down to the pavement along with your cutlery if you are not too careful. We ordered 2 flat whites which came with some fun Halloween theme froth and we had a peanut nut blondie. We would reorder the flat whites but the blondie; probably not. It tried to be too many things and missed out on the gooey texture and peanut butter flavour. Would we go again; yes. The savoury dishes offered some interesting combinations, the coffees were consistent and good, and there was a large enough choice of cakes for us to try another one.
