Amazing amazing experience visiting this castle. We pre-booked our tickets online and went straight to the entrance. Audio guides are worth it as they provide a ton of information about the history of the castle. And also include tidbits about various museum artifacts. There are several small museums scattered around the castle. Our favorites were the Argyle tower and Prisons of War. At 1PM sharp, they fire a canon that has historically been fired everyday at the same time. In the past, ships used this signal to adjust their maritime clocks. It's cool to watch, but make sure to find a good vantage point 20 min before. Crowds gather quick. There are a few cafes and toilets also scattered around the castle. One was a whisky store and we were able to get a free tasting. This was nice. Finally we saw the crown jewels of Scotland. There is a queue to view them, but it moves fast. The landscape and picturesque views of the city skyline from the castle make it 100% worth it! We easily spent over 3 hours exploring the castle.

...awesome experience when going with the family. This trip was based on my 5 Yr old learning about castle at school, so we drove up to Scotland for the weekend. History, location and weather (even though very wet) add to the atmosphere of the day. Worth a visit.

Amazing castle. Another of history and could take photos everywhere except the crown jewels. Definitely worth a visit and a lot of great shops and restaurants within walking distance. Almost every thing was with on a godd 10 15 minute walk from our hotel.

Buy your tickets in advance online and skip the line. Visit is worth the price (~£20). Realistically, it's multiple museums in one. Some of the exhibits were very high quality but a couple need updating. Great views of the city and awesome photo opportunities.

It’s a beautiful castle, well organized and very informative. It houses the War Museum and also the Crown Jewels. It also has a café, several shops that have interesting things related to the castle and Scottish culture and history. You can walk in different directions and you will find information about what you are looking at. The views from upper levels of the walls are breathtaking even in rainy days. It is very crowded, so we were turned back the day we went and asked to reserve tickets online. This was not very clear at the beginning or we would have bought the tickets before going there. We didn’t wait in line to enter as we booked for early. When we left, the waiting line was a bit long. Overall, it was a great experience with very nice displays! I think the information about booking tickets in advance should be clear in websites that promote Scottish historical places.

I loved every second of this place, due to our flight we booked the last ticket of the day and we didn't get to see everything we wanted to see so I suggest booking an earlier ticket of the day, I know at 1 o'clock they fire guns which would be cool to see. Also there was a lot of people being turned away because they sell out of tickets so be sure to book them in advance. The Scotland crown jewels were impressive and the war memorials were moving.

I’m glad I went, but I will admit that this was not my favorite place, nor my favorite castle. I enjoyed Stirling Castle much more in that it was more about the royalty, and Edinburgh Castle was more about the military. I will admit that the view of the city from here is majestic, and it looks so awesome from the outside. I had a membership to Historic Scotland, so did not need to pay for an individual ticket. I think if I had paid, I would have been disappointed.

Went with my family. We booked a tour guide and he was very good 👍. He took his time and explained to us every part of the castle. It was a fantastic experience. My kids enjoyed every bit of it. I am looking forward to visiting again soon 😊.

Wow, I really does not matter whether you are interested in this or not - if you are in Edinburgh you have to visit. We chose a guided tour and it was very good and informative. Even though it was raining that day it was just so interesting and the caste is so beautiful and there are so many interesting museums to see.

Absolutely, I wholeheartedly recommend visiting Edinburgh Castle if you have the chance. It's a true treasure that combines history, stunning architecture, and breathtaking views in one remarkable location. Walking through the castle's gates is like stepping back in time. You'll get to explore centuries of Scottish history, from royal residences to military strongholds. Don't miss the Crown Jewels, housed in the Crown Room – they're a true highlight and a testament to Scotland's regal heritage. And speaking of highlights, the panoramic views from the castle are simply spectacular! You'll be treated to sweeping vistas of Edinburgh and the surrounding landscape, making it an ideal spot for photos and taking in the city's beauty. Whether you're a history buff, a fan of stunning architecture, or just looking for an unforgettable experience in Edinburgh, this castle has it all. Edinburgh Castle is one of the best attractions in Scotland. Although you are not history person you can still enjoy some of the best views of the city from the top of the castle. There are different view points at various stages to look the beautiful city which is mix of traditional rocky buildings with new buildings in the mix. We have lot museums and movie shows with a lot of items from world war 2 and British colonial history captured and documented. Be prepared to walk a lot but there are lot of places to sit, relax and take nice photos. Crown jewels is the place which is too much crowded with a lot of wait time which we Didn't visit. But if you want cover everything going all places and taking photos you need good 4-5 hours. There are toilet facilities. The road up to the entrance of castle is so alive and when we visited there is Tattoo festival in the evening so it is much more busier. The royal mile outside of castle has lot of activities with wonderful artists playing music that is so lovely. It was great experience with stunning views from the castle. If you are visiting in a bus or car only allowed time up hill was until 5 PM, afterwards you need to walk down hill for about 10-15 minute for vehicle pick up points.

Love this place! The castle is big. Since it is a popular attraction, there are a lot of visitors, literally a lot :( You need to find the right angle and timing when taking photos to avoid the crowd. It took 2-3 hours to enjoy all area in the castle. It's worth a visit when coming to Edinburgh.

This was truly magical! My wife and I visited on a beautiful September day. We spent at least three hours there and could have spent the entire day! It's the most spectacularly and meticulously maintained castle site we have ever seen. This is a MUST SEE. And, stick around for the 1pm cannon shot!

The Edinburgh Castle, inspiration to Hogwarts, is not very easy to reach from the Prince’s Street. You need to prebook your tickets. And you should be in front of the castle 10 minutes before your booked time. If you try to enter half an hour ago, they don’t let you in. If you directly come from the airport to the Prince’s Street, you need to climb to the castle in 20 minutes walking distance. There are cafe and several public toilets inside of the castle. The city view is absolutely breathtaking. You can also see the Royal crown in the castle after waiting in the long queue.

Really beautiful! We went on a rainy day, but still have no regrets. It took about 2.5 hours to truly appreciate all that the castle had to offer

This facility was a mixed bag with regard to how good the tour was. We were able to get in quickly as we had already purchased tickets. As it is on top of the hill, warm weather gear is a must. And don’t forget about the rain and wind! At the top, there are 4-5 buildings to visit and see artifacts. Good picture taking opportunities.

A wonderful location in Edinburgh. Simply stunning views, wonderful information about the history of the castle. The exposition about the war with the english men and how the castle changed hands so many times was so insightful. Do yourselves a favour and visit this beautiful, magnificent castle while you are in Edinburgh!

A great slice of Scottish history in an unbelievably beautiful setting. A superb venue for the Edinburgh Tattoo, an incredible world-class ‘must see’ event, as well as so much more. From housing the smallest medieval chapel in the world, to having the best view over Edinburgh, as seen by many for centuries. A lovely on-site cafe and shop, superb well-informed guides make an excellent visit. Be prepared to walks a little uphill and some steps. Most things in Edinburgh are up or downhill. But it’s well worth the trip.
