The sign of a great place is the way they react to mistakes. Bit of a misunderstanding with our order was handled amazingly. As usual the food and coffee were 1st class. This is why this place is an Edinburgh institution. Thanks guys.
I took my Grandson for breakfast, he has just had a Spinal Operation in the Sick Children's, and came out for a treat, the staff at Victor's were 1st class & even put us in a lovely private room, the food was delicious,as was the Coffee, will definitely pay a return visit next time I'm in Edinburgh
Love Victor Hugo , fantastic menu, lovely staff and very reasonable. It was our daily treat while our son was in hospital nearby x
Fantastic place to stop in for a bite to eat. Great selection of choices on the menu and with friendly and welcoming service. Will definitely be back soon.
This little deli/cafe is an unsung jewel in the Crown of Edinburgh coffee shop culture friendly staff relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.....so far removed from the get them in get them out regime of the multi national coffee shops that clutter our high streets.
Always a lovely treat for us when we're in the area and the only place we consider stopping at for coffee and cake.
Service here is impeccable. I went in for lunch and even though it was busy we were greeted with a warm welcome. the staff were fantastic and the food was incredible. I love what the refurb has done and I can't wait to go back.
Loved the coffee, loved the welcoming staff, overall an excellent place to go. Definitely will be back very soon
Great selection for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed my coffee. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable so would definitely recommend and look forward to returning soon.
Exceptional food something a bit different great ambience well looked after. Will be back
Victor Hugo Deli is a nice place to have some coffee and cake, brunch or just a quick sandwich on the go. There is a wide variety of sandwiches, cakes and pastries. They also offer cooked breakfast, soups and other dishes. The coffee is really good size and very tasty. The cinnamon rolls are absolutely delicious. The poached eggs are perfectly cooked. Staff are friendly and efficient. Overall nice experience for a quick breakfast.
Nice place with a beautiful view on Castle Street. Asked for 2 cakes, a latte and a flat white. The cakes were good but I didn't like the coffees that much, both had a too strong bitter taste.
Went here with a friend for lunch - what a find! The staff were SO friendly and provided great service, and the food was delicious with generous portions.
A beautiful spot if you want castle views on a sunny day, but the inside was lovely as well with glass walls to take in the Edinburgh architecture.
Very good presentation dishes, great tasty coffee, and stunning views from the terrace to the Edinburgh Castle.
We wanted to grab a bite for lunch. Loved the pastrami sandwich and the harissa chicken. One of the few places that actually gives you well filled sandwiches/baguettes with fair prices.
Let them toast it for you, it makes it even better.
We even stayed for some sweets (can really recommend the apple toffee cake and the very fresh Augustines). Lovely place and friendly staff.
Was quiet when we were there!
Very enjoyable lunch for 4 of us. Good sandwiches and coffee, with a pretty wide selection. I've seen reviews criticising the amount of time it took, but if a place is busy and serving fresh food it takes time. Staff were very friendly.
We visited this location for the 1st time this week. Gluten free options are very limited, but staff were friendly and helpfully made up a delicious bread free option for me and couldn’t have been more attentive, front of house and kitchen staff were lovely. Will visit again rather than the many George st chains!
It's always a pleasure visiting Victor Hugo's deli for their amazing tasty Pastrami sandwich and double expresso coffee.
Our favourite place to eat in Edinburgh.
I'd recommend visiting and eating here.
Thank you
I have been there while the Fringe was going on in Edinburgh.
I really loved the food there, i ve tried the Eggs Victor and it was amazing, with the Hollandaise sauce!! The staff was welcoming, professional and super friendly😊 Ow, and one of the best coffee in Edinburgh i think! Thanks guys!
Pastrami on rye (grilled) washed down with a bloody mary, delicious! Also ham coleslaw and mustard with a lovely glass of wine! Check out this place staff are so friendly and speedy service.
Nice deli chain. The pastrami sandwich was good. Fast friendly service.
The concept of having to secure a table first and then order at the counter is a bit odd, but it seems to be a recurring theme in Edinburgh. The sandwiches have long and difficult-to-remember names, especially for tourists. However, the food is actually really delicious and the prices are very reasonable. We sat outside and had a lovely view of Edinburgh Castle while enjoying our meal.
Everything perfect, big portions, great location.
Friendly and attentive staff, the coffee is also good and the food delicious.
Perfect for brunch or breakfast on your own or with company, the place is cosy and only two steps away from Princess street. If you look at the display your mouth will be watering.
Cakes, little pastry, sandwiches and panini… all generously stuffed! So even if you need a quick meal this is a perfect place for that!
Bigger seating area on George street and plenty seats outdoor.
You should defo try it!
A very narrow corner site, with good use of the space. Very busy at lunchtime. Food on display (sandwiches, pastries cakes looks great, appetising. Order at counter and fast prep' and service. Delicious Mortadella and Mozzarella / Ham, Coleslaw and Emmenthal sandwiches.
