Reviews Saigon Saigon

Having been a fan of Saigon Saigon since 2004 (and not having been in for almost that long) I was delighted to come in for some Chinese buffet the other day. The restaurant has changed quite a bit since 2004, with a stylish interior and on the day we visited it was busy - but we still only waited around 5 minutes for a table. The buffet food was fresh and delicious, with all the favourites like crispy seaweed, spring rolls and chilli chicken available and piping hot. The wine list was good too - and there were a few options for dessert, although I was too full! Will definitely be back - the best place to enjoy Chinese buffet in Edinburgh. And I'm dying to try the Dim Sum too, as the next table had some and it looked yummy.

So the food was exceptionally good, all cooked fresh to order. Be aware that a dish will serve two as it comes on a 10 inch platter. We can highly recommend the beef in black bean sauce, chicken satay, stir fried mushrooms, egg fried rice and vegetable rice. After that no room for anything else.

The restaurant was full of Chinese people which was a sign the food would be good. We were a group of 5 so we chose a set banquet menu. The food was delicious and plentiful but unfortunately we were in a rush to be somewhere else so missed out on the dessert. Leave plenty of time to eat!!

Went there today for lunch. Ordered a selection of Dim Sum and it was great. I'm adding the photos with this review so don't be disgusted by as they contained some pig trotter and chicken feet. Some people may find it not so appetising but I can assure you that you shouldn't need to feel afraid of trying something different, something new. Because these two dishes that I ate today was very delicious! Even a 12 year old who've tried pig trotter for the first time today enjoyed it too. Writing about pig trotter and chicken feet made me almost forgot about the Dim Sum. They were also delicious.

Love the Dim Sum. They definitely make the best Dim Sum in Edinburgh. Service was good, a bit pricy though.

It was Chinese heaven. This restaurant has a wonderfully old-school atmosphere about it, dark, moody with a hint of red with no pretentions. The welcome is undeniably warm and the best part of this restaurant is that it is two restaurants in one! Upon sitting down, the diners are presented with two menus; one being a 'normal' bog-standard Chinese-in-the-UK menu (not that the quality is bog-standard, mind) and the second one is a sight to behold. You see, the second menu is the Dim Sum menu and comprises of pictures. Even if you are a veggie like me and can't eat 90 percent of the Dim Sums (chicken's feet anyone?), the pictures and descriptions will keep you occupied and be a talking point for the evening. What does a chicken's claw in spicy sauce taste like? I wonder how you eat tripe in curry sauce? Believe me, I was like an excitable toddler with a Mr Men book when I clapped eyes on the menu, I even took it home with me for my box of culinary souvenirs. It is worth noting that the no

For a truly Chinese experience, my main advice when visiting any new restaurant is to check for other Asians - you won't find Chinese people visiting a Chinese restaurant that doesn't serve authentic Chinese food. It's only at Saigon Saigon that you get to truly experience Chinese dining, the main one being 'yum cha' or tea time. The name can be slightly misleading though as yum cha is done anytime from 5:30am for the elderly generations who meet their friends early in the morning to chat and catch up over tea and shared dishes to lunch time for everyone else. Dim sum (literally translated into little heart) is served during this period, aptly named because you get small portions of each dish so you can try a little of each dish.

Booking by phone can be a problem, the background noise makes it difficult to hear the person at the other end of the phone. Sometimes when you manage to make a reservation, you turn up to find they haven't taken your details down correctly or they haven't got you on the list. The best thing would be to just turn up and be prepared to wait as it can be quite busy with most Chinese people taking advantage of their dim sum menu which I haven't been able to find any other restaurant offering.

The dishes they offer are as authentic as what you can get in restaurants in Hong Kong though. I've brought different non-Chinese friends to Saigon Saigon just for this experience and everyone enjoyed it very much and asked me to bring them again next time.

Saigon Saigon is a place I recommend to go to if you're in the city centre. It's menu is full of excellent choices from dim sum to bigger main dishes which we always order and share. I've been here so so many times and it's great decor, staff, food, price, portion, atmosphere, manager and owner Hahn makes this place a top restaurant. I in particular love the authentic dishes that comes from the Chinese menu :) it's a request you have to make and it's worth making! Try out the chicken claws, the spicy veggie pots, it is really the chef's skills here that makes us come back for more.

I really recommend this place to do authentic food.

Went here after waiting for an hour for the torch procession to start. It was taking longer than expected and our youngest was too tired to continue waiting. We left and were able to get seated quickly here around 8:30pm. The place was still buzzing with customers. It took a while for someone to take our order, but the food came quickly and was very good.

I'm very partial to Chinese food but, I must say this was one of the best dry hot pots I've ever had! The chicken soup wasn't bad either. If you're looking for something hot, spicy and delicious, this is the place for you!! Has a big space for large groups too.

This is the third time I am changing this review. The service went from average to poor and now back to good. I had an experience of having to leave the place after waiting for one and a half hours for food. Since then I happened to be there twice and both time I got good service. It was the tasty food that attracted me back despite the bad experience. Good news is most of the old lazy staff seems to have gone now and the difference is evident.

I've been back twice for the braised pork belly and they never disappointed. But 4 stars instead of 5 because the price isn't very wallet friendly.

The beef noodles comes with a very big bowl. The tate isn't what I expected but ok. It's more Chinese than Vietnamese noodles.

Great decently priced dim sum! Got around 15 dishes for 5 people and it came to £70 which is really good! Not the best dim sum I've had but it's definitely up there in there. Think the portions could have been bigger but maybe the amount reflects the price. The service was perfect and the food came quickly. Definelty recommend!
