Our favourite place to spend time with friends, for drinks and food. We're always welcomed and looked after impeccably by the wonderful staff. Stunning decor and relaxing terrace to enjoy on a nice day. No need to move inside if the rain starts as the automatic roof will keep you dry and the patio heaters and blankets are a nice touch as it gets chillier of an evening.
The Place is in a great location with helpful & supportive staff. We were booked in twice in a week & both times had rooms with great views. The first room was literally in the roof,& although smaller was perfect for our needs. The second room we had was a floor lower, a bit larger & also had great views. As the hotel has no lifts, if you have problems with stairs, you will need to be aware that the stairs are steep & the higher your room, the more there are. We faced the challenge by planning our mornings well, as well as our day's activities. I definitely recommend staying here.
We recently celebrated our wee one's christening and first birthday and had a small informal party after the ceremony at St. Margaret's here at The Place.
We initially booked the terrace for a BBQ but a freak snow storm on the Sunday threw a bit of a wrench in the works for us there. The indoor space was more than sufficient to accommodate our guests though and the staff were wonderful.
Upon booking the food we were very tight indeed as our budget didn't allow for much breathing-space and we were a little concerned that we wouldn't have enough to feed everyone if it as so strictly booked to the numbers.
But once the food came out we were so surprised by the quality and the size of the portions and there was even enough for some to go back for seconds.
A special mention has to be made to Becky Fleming, who was so approachable and professional and really went above and beyond to make our wee gathering a special one.
Thank you all for making it memorable and we will definitely be back!
Spent a day/night here recently and was very impressed. Got a complimentary upgrade to a suite which was amazing. Couldn't fault the staff who were all very friendly and accommodating. Hotel was spotless as was our room. Would highly recommend to anyone to stay here.
Had a fantastic stay this weekend at The Place! Lovely attentive staff and great room. Loved our welcome too was such a lovely touch to our girls weekend! Really enjoyed the Terrace great to enjoy the outdoors in January and feel cosy! Would definitely stay here again and recommend to a friend!
I've just stayed here for 3 nights & have nothing but praise for the staff,so caring & polite. Our room was small but perfect in every way, huge en suite shower room, nice fresh towels & the shower was actually hot & had good pressure,we had breakfast Tuesday morning & it was lovely but no bacon on a Scottish cooked breakfast? Noise level zero,no complaints from us,we will stay here again
Absolutely beautiful place, I stayed in the Harry Potter room which was magnificent. The staff were all lovely & very friendly & the food was good!

Stayed for three days 27th-30th November, we had a really great room, nice and warm and very comfortable. We had two easy chairs and a coffee table so could sit and relax with hot drinks. Room was very clean with nice bathroom and shower, staff were very friendly, would recommend this hotel and we will be back!

Amazing food varieties.. real nice taste. One of the best place in Edinburgh to host a training..
I’ve written before about how people in Britain, and perhaps to a lesser extent in Edinburgh, seem to have a level of discomfort with eating in hotel restaurants. Edinburgh has some fantastic places, such as The Bonham, Blackwood’s, Hadrian’s and the Galvin Brasserie that are starting to erode that sense, but you still find some hotel eateries disproportionately underpopulated.
