The sign of a great place is the way they react to mistakes. Bit of a misunderstanding with our order was handled amazingly. As usual the food and coffee were 1st class. This is why this place is an Edinburgh institution. Thanks guys.

This little deli/cafe is an unsung jewel in the Crown of Edinburgh coffee shop culture friendly staff relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.....so far removed from the get them in get them out regime of the multi national coffee shops that clutter our high streets.

Always a lovely treat for us when we're in the area and the only place we consider stopping at for coffee and cake.

This is an excellent cafe for great food and coffee. Their sandwiches, pastries and selection of gourmet cheese/olives/etc. are amazing. It is like you are in the heart of France. The coffee is yet another high point of Victor Hugo. The staff is friendly and genuine, while the atmosphere allows you to stop and enjoy the time pass you by.

The staff appear to be friendly and attentive. The espresso drinks are delicious. The signature breakfast croissant is quite lovely as well. Store cleanliness is on par with other similar establishments in the area. My only complaint is that the speed of service is slow, especially for espresso drinks.

So been here a few times only because it's close to sick kids and food baby hasn't been to well recently. Everything has been super tasty. I will say the pastries have been pretty awesome. Especially the pepito. Love the drinks selection and the bread selection. The tempting cakes always look beautiful. All I would say it should be bigger as lots of people come by and I am here on a Monday- busy busy..

Such a cute little place, I went here when interning for a small PR review, the tasters of cheese, and bread baguettes. Its so hidden on the other side, but is such a hidden gem, Fantastic for a small meeting or just a friendly meet up, comfortable, the little personal salad bar and varieties of food is crazy good for the size it is! Cakes and coffees you name it, they always have items you can buy for at home cooking! Great vibe, I couldn't stop eyeing up the salad/sandwich bar, also the HUGE coffee treats!

Wonderful continental café by the park. I had some Belgian waffles with poached eggs and streaky bacon, with some maple syrup, of course. It was a refreshing breakfast after a few days of eating mostly Scottish food. But the best thing about this café is that you get to admire all the pastries on display. It is my deepest regret that I did not try the Basque Cheesecake or Portuguese Nata. Do not turn your back on these.

A great place for lunch. All of the food is delicious. The bread is fresh, the coffee is tasty, and I’ve never had a meal here that I didn’t love. This deli is right off the meadows making it perfect place to catch up for a meal, coffee, and a walk. I had the Basque sandwich this time around and it did not disappoint. The staff is always friendly and, although you might not have a table as soon as you walk in, you’ll appreciate that you don’t feel rushed or like you’re eating at a table with strangers.

Our hotel offered no breakfast, so we tried this nice looking deli. The coffee and the food were so delicious that we came here for breakfast the next day too. The service is very friendly. We would love to visit again on our next Edinburgh trip!

Had a very nice lunch at Hugo. Sandwiches were great! Had a pastrami on rye. Pastrami was piled high. Pickles, mayo and cheese. Priced right. Good service and decent outside seating. Will be back soon.

Great food and coffee, as always. Very busy but service was amazing - a welcome change from the terrible service over the last few months.

Once again my go to restaurant for their Pastrami sandwich and double expresso coffee. It's always a pleasure never a chore going to Victor Hugos. I'd recommend visiting here. Thank you 😁☕👍

The sandwiches display it will make you hungry. Egg Royal was tasty but I would have expected 2 eggs in two muffin instead of a bun and one egg. Very tasty coffee probs the best in town I have had so far. Very close to the Meadows, perfect for brunch or coffee with friends. Definitely give it a try!

Absolutely lovely historical café. One of my favourite places for breakfast. They have good croissants, which are relatively cheap when you take them to go, and they have a vegan option! Their eggs are great and I would recommend their Eggs Victor Hugo - love the lemon hollandaise sauce. I also tried one of their quiches, it was so creamy and delicious. It also is in a very good position, by the Meadows, and it's perfect to sit outside when there is good weather.
