Nice place for healthy snack. Small and easy choosing menu. I had an avo on toast and my hubby had a Rosemary focaccia. Both delicious. The decor is nice and comfy. Great ambience music. A must visit place in Edinburgh.

Lovely coffee and great tasting food although the menu is slightly limited just now as they haven't been open long. Really nice couple that run it and all the staff are lovely. Even have a wee seating area in the back with Astro turf so little ones can crawl around which is a big bonus for us. Is now a regular haunt for me, very welcome addition to the area

Absolutely amazing place. The pistachio chimney cake is delicious! I love how you can choose how your coffee is made (e.g. french press, AeroPress etc). The service I received was fantastic. They even let me know how best to eat the chimney cake. Coming round with a bottle of tap water was a nice touch as well. The cafe itself has a lovely atmosphere. They have beanbags in the back as well! Overall, I would definitely recommend The Early Bird.

Amazing cafe, and an easily overlooked treasure of Edinburgh. Come for the coffee, stay for the fine food and finer company. A great atmosphere, full of character which is only added to by the owner/operators. The must try item on the menu is the array of chimney cakes, which are a delight to both the eye and the tastebuds.

Lovely cafe that i stumbled on accidentally but well worth it. I ordered a toastie to take away and while i was waiting, i was drooling over the cake counter. The woman behind the counter explained about their chimney cakes (stacked pastry/bready mixture) and that they had a few different flavours. I was sold when she mentioned salted caramel and i was even more impressed when they baked one from scratch for me there and then. It took about 10 minutes but let me tell you, it's worth the wait!! Great little find, i will be back!

Really great food in here. I’ve been twice and had a big breakfast first time around which was fab, fresh and really enjoyable. Today was just a bowl of soup whilst waiting on a bus but it was delicious and very reasonably priced. It’s a shame it wasn’t busier as they deserve it and people are missing out! I’ll def be back and highly recommend it. Marisa

Awesome chimney cakes (you gotta have one if you go) as well as very good coffee. The sits in the back are my favourite part of the coffee.

Serving great coffee and European "chimney cakes" (sweet and savoury) in chic surroundings at the front and quirky at the back. AstroTurf picnic, anyone?!
