We stayed a single night in the Howard hotel and were very happy with our experience. The hotel is old-world very well located and in a lovely building. The staff are friendly and always ready to help. The dinner was excellent and the breakfast wonderful. The long bath in the en-suite meant you could stretch out and relax and the hotel felt intimate and hidden. I would totally recommend it.
The location is a little bit hard to find because it looks so similar with the other houses. But, the hotel itself is superb! Unexpectedly great service and great interior. Feels old yet authentic at once! The breakfast is good too, there's a dedicated waiter for your table. Overall, I enjoyed my stay there!
While The Howard is not residing in a central location of Edinburgh, I found having it only a few blocks from the center of town better since tourists and noise level were at a minimum. It made the experience more relaxing, especially given the number of people who were willing to help you. I don't think I carried my bags once. Besides that, the rooms were beautiful. The beds luxurious; and splurging on the tasting dinner was well worth it. The chef at this hotel was a wonderful cook! I would go back again and again and recommend my family and friends to do so as well.
Can't believe there are no reviews of this place but then maybe it's one of those best kept secrets?
Stayed here twice. Once for our anniversary and then again for my birthday when the staff were able to organise me a surprise birthday cake
The level of service in the hotel is fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. For instance there is no kettle in the room but for tea or coffee just call the butler and it will be delivered fresh within minutes.
The full cooked breakfast delivered to the room is one of the best I've had and I have to admit I'd stay here just for the breakfast
This is quite possibly the best hotel I have ever stayed in, staff are on hand 24 hours and will bring you tea, polish your shoes or take care of any other issues regardless of the time. The breakfast was out of this world and is worth staying here for on it's own! Excellent location, parking is available right outside and the overall experience made it one of my best and most memorable hotel stays.
The small double room I booked was huge with a writing desk and comfy seating area. Penthaligons toiletries, lots of towels and soft robes. Very friendly staff greeted me at the door and butler service...nothing was too much trouble. This is a fantastic hotel in a central location. Highly recommended.
This place is outstanding if you like quality relaxing time. The service is impeccable and quietly attentive. Food is served in either the dining room or the drawing room (bar) and is of a god standard. Wide selection of drinks and a generally peaceful and civilised environment in which to enjoy them. This is a boutique hotel and deserving of a five star label.
The Howard is an excellent hotel one of the best in Edinburg and Scotland. The staff are so helpful getting our bags, parking the car, suggesting places to see and eat, late night food and drinks at the bar. Breakfast is absolutely worth having with the Howard as is afternoon tea. Great stay hope to come again and would recommend to anyone.
Lovely place with charm and old school class. The staff was so polite and accommodating. Our room was tastefully appointed and very spacious, and the bathtub was delightful. Looks forward to staying here again!
Lovely huge rooms with views over rooftops. My room at the top of the first floor stairs was a bit noisy with sounds carrying through the stairwell. Enormous clawfoot tub with garden view and a fabulous Scottish breakfast were the highlights.

Excellent room - terrace suite. Lovely breakfast. Service from staff is excellent, especially the butler service and the overnight shoe polishing. Would stay here again tomorrow. Shame it's being turned into flats at Christmas.
Very comfortable hotel with great lobby. One disadvantage are the typical British cranes in the bathroom. Culture is nice, buy not very functional
Good location, walking distance to everything. Clean and fresh rooms with a nice feeling. Wonderful staff that made you feel welcome and tended to our every need in a great way.
Service is excellent and it's a nice place, breakfast is lovely, my only complaint is there is no temperature control for either the shower or the room, both are either very cold or boiling hot.
The Howard was a lovely hotel, staff were warm and friendly. Only down side was the door to our room would not lock, we slept with the TV unit behind the door.
Gorgeous hotel, very friendly staff, just a short walk from all the attractions in Edinburgh. Enjoyed the breakfast selection.
Consistently surprised by the detail of the upkeep service. A glass left in a bedroom for water was washed and replaced right where I left it. Very cordial and polite staff
Very nice meal at the restaurant - excellent steaks very well cooked. Very attentive waiter who made us feel very welcome.
Lovely old building and decor. Staff are very nice and accommodating
