Honest review: The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, food delicious and staff is very helpful. The only thing that I think needs to be disclosed while booking is the fact that on Fridays and Saturdays there's a DJ playing in the bar which is directly under the rooms. Getting some sleep during that time is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE. If you are looking to party there and go to sleep at 5 am in a beautiful, clean and charming victorian style hotel - go for it. If you are however up for a quiet relaxing weekend in Edinburgh, this hotel is probably not for you. Although I do recommend it during the week when It's quiet.

Drove up from the south and spent five nights here. Really great, very spacious room with lovely view of the park opposite. Restaurant is good value with great food and good choice. Recommend the Scottish skillet for breakfast (just one morning!). I withheld a star..... Bar is pretty lively on Saturday night and you can here it in the room. It Didn't bother me, but some might be put off.

The Black Ivy was my favorite hotel! My significant other and I stayed in London before going north on a train to Edinburgh and then on to parts north and over to Ireland. The Black Ivy was wonderfully located to walk to all the historical and center of the city. It was the perfect mix of sophistication, and casualness without any airs. They offered great vegetarian fare as well. I would love to return during the festival! And that is where I’d go.

Stayed 3 nights for the Edinburgh portion of our trip to Scotland. A nice location away from most of the busyness but close enough to walk to public transportation and other attractions. Afternoon tea was a great experience. Very accommodating staff throughout the stay. They even helped arrange an airport transfer at 6am when ours cancelled on us at the last minute. Street-facing rooms were a little noisy in the early mornings.

Just had most fabulous weekend at the Black Ivy celebrating my daughter and daughter in law wedding. Right from we checked in the service was outstanding, food was lovely and the staff are all so welcoming and cannot do enough to make experience wonderful. Bedrooms excellent very large and airy with lots of small details to make stay perfect. The wedding day celebration was outstanding, excellent service and amazing food. Cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Certified legends, great rooms, great taste in decor. However the bar outside can get quite noisy. The reception is also tiny, and no one there sometimes. End up having to search for a staff member around the bar.

Absolutely fantastic, great food from Startes to Mains And Pudding It was my Husband's Birthday he was only having an espresso instead of dessert Compliments of the chef he got a pudding which said Happy birthday in chocolate sauce with chocolate fudge cake and icecream on top Honestly could not fault anything here. We would definitely be going back 5 start ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍

Great location near a few bus stops and the park, the only issue we had at all was that check-in felt very rushed (Because they are also a restaurant and bar, duh!) so we didn't really know who we were supposed to talk to to help us with any room issues/checking out, etc. But its a lovely place, spacious room overlooking the park. They even sorted out a room issue we had (Apparently it was booked as 2 twins, but they got that sorted for us.)

We visited for a graduation + birthday celebration. The menu was varied and a particular highlight was the avocado and mango stack. I also loved that they served Hugo Spritz! Our server was incredible - we were lucky to recieve some beautiful plates with brownies, fresh fruit and special messages written in chocolate. The server was also happy bringing out a cake/candles which we provided. Overall, a lovely setting with great service.

Food and drinks. Booked a table for food and drinks on a Saturday night to watch some sport. First up it's a tastefully decorated upmarket bar with a trendy vide. The food was good but the main issue was the service. It wasn't busy but had to repeatedly get up and ask at the bar for drinks. The girl we asked the bill for at the end of the night had a poor attitude. When asking her if she could get us the bill when she got a minute she didn't acknowledge the request but it eventually appeared so heard us. We were then met if you want to split the bill you'll have to go to the bar. Not a problem, just one of those people who shouldn't be in a customer service role if they can't have a modicum of a friendly attitude towards paying customers. 3.5 stars would be fair but 3 feels a bit mean.

With a view to the beautiful Bruntsfield Links, Black Ivy is ideally situated, a short walk to main bus routes to the city centre. An excellent and reasonably priced menu offers something for everyone. The option to sit outside beneath a retractable awning is ideal for the Scottish weather. The food was good, service equally good. Great atmosphere. I would recommend booking in advance. It gets busy

Black Ivy is a beautiful classy hotel with super staff located close to Edinburgh city centre. Each bedroom has its own look & feel, high ceilings & the smart thing is breakfast stays open until midday with "have anything on the menu". For a wonderful night's sleep & memorable experience book Black Ivy...money well spent!

Loved my stay at Black Ivy in July 2022. My first visit to Edinburgh and travelling solo. I had a small single room but it was comfortable, clean and had everything I needed. It was nice to open the window in the morning and enjoy my tea while the birds chirped in the trees outside. The hotel has lots of cool art and photography, including in the rooms and hallways so that was nice to stop and enjoy when I was coming and going. Kind of awkward that the entrance to the rooms was behind the staff podium in the entrance, I had to cut past staff who were managing restaurant guests, but staff were always super casual about it and not weird at all letting me past. Had Sunday roast in the restaurant one day with my family and we enjoyed it. A bit pricier than other places but the ambiance was beautiful and we enjoyed the food, so not a big deal. Loved the location as well, it was easy to walk places and the park space and shops nearby were wonderful. I loved the neighbourhood. Would love to stay at Black Ivy again next time I'm in Edinburgh.
