Delicious coffee and baked goods. Friendly staff. My favourite place in town for a takeaway coffee to take to the meadows, and I get beans to use in my aeropress at home.

This was the last cafe I went to in Scotland before moving. Machines is reliable for offering fresh, reasonably priced and delicious food, as well as carefully prepared tea, coffee and hot chocolate. I've never had a bad experience there, and as a bonus they're dog friendly.

Some of the best coffee in the city! Union of Genius soups and delicious array of sandwiches make up a lovely (very reasonably priced) lunch menu, and AMAZING CAKES. Friendly service, relaxing atmosphere....what isn't to love?!

Machina Espresso has absolutely delicious coffee! When I was headed to the Meadows Festival and the rain moved in temporarily, we made a beeline here to take shelter - it was a great excuse to try their coffee! They not only have high quality hot coffee but also iced coffee that is really spot on.

The space is small and we got one of the last tables. It's cosy but it's a cute place with a great selection of coffee-making kit and gadgetry if you're further inspired to see if you can beat their coffee-making skills at home. The selection of baked goods looked tasty, too.

Machina Espresso lived up to and surpassed my high expectations!

Fantastic coffee, I would hazard to say best coffee in the Tollcross area in fact. With a selection of beans from local(ish) roasters Steampunk, there really is something for everyone. In case you're feeling peckish, there's a selection of pastries on offer, of which I can vouch that the almond croissant is amazing!

Not only do they have great coffee & pastries, they also sell all the coffee kit you need to make a great cuppa joe at home. They also run brew method classes which would make a great gift for the coffee aficionado in your life!

The walls are often adorned with art from local artists which is a great showcase of local talent.

It was super quiet the day I went in so there wasn't much of an atmosphere or vibe which is all that is missing for it to get a higher rating. Although with seating for about 10 and no soft furnishings to absorb any noise, I can imagine it could get quite loud when they're busy.

This place is so cosy! It has a laptop space for studying and laptop free tables if you’re just up to some coffee and food. We came for a brunch and I’m so happy we did so. The food is tasty, not the best out there but I enjoyed it. I’d recommend you order avocado toast with smoke salmon and chives. Such a friendly staff. Kudos! 🩷

A new, clean and modern coffee place doing really nice blends. The atmosphere is very relaxing and it's relatively spacious. There is some seating outside if the weather allows it. The staff are friendly and the service was on time. I'm giving 4 stars because there wasn't anything that wowed both coffee and food wise. In this area, good coffee and cakes are a regular and common so I was expecting something unique, something more special in their offering that would drag me back for more as opposed to just stopping by when I'm nearby. Overall, you won't be disappointed but if you have been around different cafés around, you might not find anything more.

Machina Coffee in Marchmont is one of my favourite coffee shops in the area. They have sufficient space and allow laptops on certain tables (and certain days I believe). Good coffee and skillful baristas as evidenced by the art on this tiny cortado.

Stopped for coffee and breakfast, sat outside. Great atmosphere. Excellent coffee, Super friendly barista / staff. Food was slightly underwhelming and overpriced. Barista totally knew what he was doing and coffee quality was excellent. 2 flat whites and a cappucino: nearly identical art. Great milk texture, nice temperature. food: toast, a scone and granola bowl. Was all just slightly underwhelming. Go! maybe just stick to coffee?

finally got time to check their new place after being a fan of their tollcross venue. And i must says they didnt disappoint. coffee is still perfect and staff super friendly but the venue is really cool too. u have 3 atmospheres, u can be around the bar and enjoy the barista vibes or go to the next room and simply relax or enjoy the morning sun on their huge terasse.

In a city full of great coffee shops, this one makes it to my top 3 spots. Excellent coffee, and very friendly baristas.

The best coffee with a variety of fresh croissants. Order & pay at the counter with service at indoor and outdoor tables - where you can find seating in the sunshine.

What a sweet coffee shop! Currently only open for take-away but I can imagine how amazing this would be for sit-in when that is possible again. The coffee was great, staff were super helpful and welcoming, and the vibe is super cool and calm in there. Out of the way of the hustle and bustle as well

Had a very pleasant seat at Machina Espresso, a really tasty iced latte and enjoyable espresso. Plenty of drinks on offer from the menu for all different tastes and a load of beans available to buy as well as equipment.

Short stay in Edinburgh, this was my favourite coffee place. I was surprised how many good spots there were for coffee but this was the one that I came back to a few times. Nice down to earth baristas, good prices and great coffee

This is a difficult one because I gave a similar place (specialty coffee shop with one of the best coffees in Edin) 4* just because they upcharge for alternative mylks even though everything else was excellent. Machina is very similar in terms of coffee quality - if you want great coffee, this is one of the places on my top list but they also upcharge for alternative mylks, so I was torn to give 4* to keep it consistent. But the prices in general are more accessible than in similar places. They had some vegan snacks and pastries available. If they chose to drop the extra charge we would definitely come more often.
