My boyfriend and I met family here last Sunday for brunch before the rugby and it was a great choice. It wasn't very busy, but we were quite a big group so there was still a good atmosphere.
The brunch menu is simple but effective and I went for the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The portion was very generous and the toasted bread the salmon and eggs were served on was delicious. I thoroughly enjoy my brunch and I would definitely have it again. Other people ordered the pancakes and the full breakfast and everyone was pleased with their meal; all plates were emptied!
The bar and restaurant are both downstairs so it has a cosy feel, but it's not the brightest of spaces. I really enjoyed my meal here though and I want to go back to try the evening menu.
This hidden pub is an absolute gem. I had been here before, but never eaten. Today, I had duck confit and it was most likely the best pub food I've ever had in Edinburgh.
The atmosphere is nice and friendly with live music on Thursdays.
Good selection of beers, too.
The only downside is that it is so hidden that you might not find it if you don't know where it is.
Absolutely worth a visit!
The tic is a perfect local bar. Good beers and not too pricey. Sport on the television if that's your thing, lots of wee nooks to hide away if it's not. It has a general nice feel about the place. Been drinking in here for years now man and boy and hope it never changes.
The Antiquary is kind of my local pub and I love it for what it is. A perfectly nice and cosy neighborhood pub that serves good food, drinks and where I always find a nice spot to sit and catch up with friends. They do have board games, do quiz nights and have live music every week.
Always a winner for a Sunday roast of seasonal game. Portions are beyond generous with homemade Yorkshire puddings and tons of accurately cooked vegetables. Their cow pie special was superb. It was packed with venison and crispy pasty with tons of gravy inside and lovely rustic chips. Good craft beer offering and one of the few decent places to watch live sport in Edinburgh
A cute place, much bigger than visible to the eye from the outside, with a relaxed and cozy atmosphere, and a fresh and light take on local favorites.
For starters, we had the soup of the day, a vegetable and tomato option that tasted as if it of your grandma's kitchen. I also had the wings, we'll seasoned, crisp and with a fresh side salad. For main course we had a venison pie and fish and chips, substituting salad for chips, with a side of perfectly cooked, vibrant green peas.
Price for food and drinks was around £60.
Is gladly come back for seconds.
Fantastic hidden gem with a great cosy atmosphere, friendly welcoming staff and great food. The bar itself is decorated in a cosy traditional style and host quiz nights on Wednesday and Sundays. There are pub games in the back corner to entertain you while enjoy a drink. Moving on to the food it is fantastic especially for the price. I had the MacDillon burger, it was cooked beautifully and the burger was a proper burger patty rather than a frozen mass produced one. Can't wait to go back.
We usually go here just for drinks but today we tried the Sunday roast and it was really great. We tried the beef roast, the duck roast and the pheasant roast. I can't say which one was the best because all of them were amazing.
Such a nice place to have beers with friends. There are several rooms so you can find both noisy and chill spaces depending on your mood. Lovely quotes in the walls. Lots of taps so you can be 100% sure you'll find the beer you need. I recommend it. Never tried the food but I will try it as soon as I come back. Menu seems affordable, and the dishes that I saw served looked delicious.
Went with a group of friends for Sunday lunch. Great range of options and very tasty. Load of specials to choose from too. Great area and a nice atmosphere
Would go back
Descent priced drinks. Fantastic quality food from locally sourced ingredients. Never would have expected a pub to have this quality meal and presentation. You can tell the chef cares about his meals and customers. Not to mention great atmosphere nice and attentive staff and pet friendly! :) I can say I am now a loyal customer. Keep up the good work! :)
Food is incredible it was some of the best food I've eaten ...no joke !!! Absolutely do not miss this pub a proper Edinburgh gem a true Scottish pub fab ale awesome food superb service ,treat yourself and make it a definite visit ...I had confit duck with all the trimmings fresh beautifully cooked executed at the highest level ... My daughter had a smoked salmon rissoto which looked amazing and my wife had sea bass which was sublime all the dishes were seasonal a absolute delight ..the chef should be absolutely commended for his food Awesomeness at the most highest level go you won't regret it !!!
Excellent service, great drinks and was made to feel welcome.
I had a bad experience in the past here, but I have to say that, I visit 2 consecutive weekends the pub and never has happened again. So I update my review saying that the last two times has been wonderful, last time I booked and I ask to come with a 12yr old girl and no problem.
So 5 stars!
Good beer, good prices, and very good food.
Thank you for the experience!
First time for food and the Wednesday pub quiz here and found it to be very tasty, I'd say the food here is of a higher quality than that of the Bailie Bar which is further along the street.
Friendly bar staff!
I went for a Pub lunch. What I got was actually fine dining. Pork belly and Phesant were absolutely fantastic. I take my hat off to the Chef for a truly fantastic meal.
Came here one night to grab a fast, comfort-food-type dinner. Didn't disappoint; The "3 pigs" with roasted veg was excellent, and the rest of the family had the beef and the venison pies, and both were proclaimed to be very good.
Watched the rugby here, great venue. Great friendly atmosphere. Lots of big tvs. Good guiness too
We had an amazing dinner in this authentical Scottish pub, with lots of meaningful phrases on the ceiling, and people enjoying or playing games. Staff is warm and friendly. Amazing food! The whole street is beautiful for a night out
Quality establishment. Lovely barmaids. Great food and drink selection.
Friendly pub near Dean village, good food, large portions, nice staff, quiet sport broadcast on a large screen, choice of local and IPA beers
Very tasty breakfast, slightly on the expensive side. Staff aren’t super inviting but they are friendly.
