Came here the other night for dinner and food. Staff were, as always, on point, so friendly and helpful and personal. Food was gorgeous (it always is) and quick. Atmosphere great for a mid-week dinner. The Brass Monkey is the local that all locals should aspire to be.
Right on the limits between Leith and Edinburgh lies The Brass Monkey, one of the best places to have a relaxing drink on Leith Walk. I don’t know if it’s because the place caters to my hipster-y tendancies, but I really love the vibe of the place. Just like its sister pub on Drummond Street up in Newington, The Brass Monkey is all about the movies, with the walls covered in posters and a huge projector set up in the back room playing the evening’s film of choice. With lots of chairs and comfy sofas, you can easily find a place to settle down with a couple of pals on a weeknight.
Been here mainly for drinks but the occasions where I went for food, it was a good selection, lots of vegetarian options and nicer pub food. The staff are consistent and have a good knowledge of the drinks they offer. What I would recommend, is to book a table at the weekend as soon as it hits 5pm on a Friday, it fills up fast.
Hands down one of the best burgers I’ve had in Edinburgh (Scottish bacon and Blue) possibly even one of my top 3 burgers ever! The staff are lovely, you order everything from the bar, there are board games for you to use and play with mates, as long as you look after them of course. Overall 10/10 would recommend!
To a place with amazing cask ales and a complete vibe they have vast range of draughts as well I tried the mosaic and hippy ales
Both were delicious. Rest wasn't able to explore much spirits was late for bus.
But it's quite a sporty bar I can definitely define this
Great food! Great Pints! Exactly what you would expect when someone says pub fare. Will be back
Small menu, but delicious. I ordered the chili dog, Bleu cheese fries and a coke.
The bartender was very friendly and she offered me a sample of a beer, and was willing to chat with me.
This is an "order at the bar" type of place. And it has a good vibe.
This is a place I would go back to
A cracking bar with ample space and many tables and mingling spaces and an outside area. Great selection of beers and ales on tap and wide variety of spirits and cocktails. The food here is quite good and the staff are awesome. Friendly courteous and just super nice.. the place has quite a vibe with great music and movies playing in the background. It is clean. Nice place to meet new people and also drink with friends and family.. recommended by all means.. visit and be enthralled by the ambience
Stumbled upon this pub while on holiday in Edinburgh. Great beer selection, excellent food options, friendly staff, good prices. We stopped by every day while in town. Highly recommend.
One of the best bars on Leith Walk that almost epitomises what Leith is: cultural, welcoming and fun. Big and spacious with a great range of local craft beers and other drinks. Quirky artwork and films playing all day, there's a great wee beer garden (bring on the sun) and an inviting range of homemade burgers to choose from. Just a short 10 min stroll into the city centre - not that you need to go there with so much around Leith Walk.
Food was great ,drinks where a fair price (coming from a Yorkshire lad ,high praise ...am tight :)), was a little confused (my normal state of being :)) as was served by really really really tall people ....turns out bar area has a raised floor :)

Very friendly and welcoming pub, mainly aimed towards adults but a family gathering would also work well here. A large selection of spirits and the bartenders have good cocktail knowledge. Be careful if you order the Philly Cheese steak though as it is rather spicy 🔥
Really nice Atmosphere. Burgers were 10/10 absolutely delicious for a really good price. Friendly staff and good beer. Over all a really nice pub.
