Quirky decor, great food, massive windows... what more could you want from one of the best places in Edinburgh for brunch? Honestly, I could go back to Spoon every day as it always gives me what I want. From their fabulous brunches to their fantastic cakes, everything here invites you to bring a book, order cake and tea and relax...

Love this place and wood definitely reccommend it. The pre-theatre menu for 12 or 14 quid is good value for 2-3 courses. Lovely food and brilliant atmosphere.

There are a mix of tables (small and large) and sofas and the large, bright room is separated by book shelves, folding screens, pot plants and standing lamps giving the room a very lived-in, chilled out atmosphere

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE REVIEW AS IT'S A COMBINATION OF TWO DIFFERENT VISITS - ONE GOOD & ONE NOT SO GOOD.
A concept with a serious amount of potential which just didn't succeed on this visit. Relaxed canteen style meets a menu which promises a fair amount but ultimately under delivers.

We tried the 2course pre-theatre menu as the a la carte was intimidatingly priced for a quick Friday bite. The tomato, mozzarella and rocket salad was pleasant and did exactly what it said on the tin but the main courses were pretty flat and poorly executed.

The macaroni, cherry tomatoes and pea dish was exactly just that - bland and cooked without heart or imagination. The salt beef with mustard mash and kale was an over-seasoned punch in the mouth which became a chore to churn through. A surprise chunk of wood hidden in the mash was not good at all - especially when the waitress informed us that no wood is used in the kitchen.

Having said that, the staff, the wine and the atmosphere were lovely. A disappointment this time but would try again - perhaps for lunch or an a la carte dinner. Everyone has their off days!

UPDATE - As I said, Spoon probably deserved another go.

We popped here with a larger group following a Fringe show. The place was heaving and the room had a good buzz. We ordered a number of dishes including; ploughman's, beef burger and quinoa pilaf. I ordered pollock with chorizo and roasted potatoes which was absolutely delicious - simple but effective flavour combination well executed.

The entire group enjoyed their meals & the staff were again fantastic. Most importantly the much needed bloody Marys were great.

Would recommend this place but expect an either or experience based on my visits!

Very cute, centrally located and nicely decorated café in Nicolson Street. I adore their massive windows and the fact that it's a perfect place to work/write but also to meet up with friends. Their teas and hot chocolate are delicious, and although I haven't tried their breakfasts yet... I look forward to! Definitely a place to go back to.

I used to go to spoon every week when I was living in Edinburgh in 2014 because they serve the best breakfasts in all Edinburgh to me. The place is really warm and cosy with a kind of old attic atmosphere. I particularly recommand the rolls (bacon+sausage+fried eggs is my favourite one!) which are so good that they will haunt your dreams for years! Indeed, 4 years later in 2018, the only thing I was dreaming about was to go back there and have breakfast and I was thrilled to see that the food is as good as in my memories! It's also a good place to go for tea lovers as they got a lot of different teas which are all really good. I recommand this place a thousand times! For the food, the place, the atmosphere, the lovely staff and the rather cheap prices! A must go in Edinburgh!

One of the best brunch places, great location, very friendly and polite staff, the service and food are both great. Love the decoration and the style of the place, quite affordable too! Would definitely recommend to people looking for a good brunch place in the heart of Edinburgh without paying too much.

Really nice place, very light and airy. Great soup and coffee. Scrambled eggs looked good too. This place is for coffee and cake and small plates. Perfect for a lazy couple of hours reading a book. Love it.

The food is good, although portions are small so be sure to ask for the side plate if you're extra hungry. I also enjoyed the fresh mint tea

Lovely spot with good coffee, food, and amazing staff/service. A full breakfast cost me £10 which is pretty standard. It was quality food. Open floor plan but still cozy. Great big windows offer fantastic light. Weekends can be very busy with the college crowd.

Simple, tasty brunch. Pictures is the salmon with scrambled eggs and toasted English muffins. Very cozy atmosphere too, ideal for a chat with friends or getting some work done.

My favourite brunch spot in Edinburgh, the menu at Spoon is a fabulous offering, fresh ingredients and lots of different dietary needs met. It's upstairs but there's a wheelchair lift if needed, above other shops so hidden away from the general thronging tourist melee. Beautifully furnished with retro design, it's a super spot to read a book or meet with friends.

Nice chilled atmosphere, great decor and filled with inspiration for home accents. We had soup of the day and a cup of tea-tasted delicious and was happy to sit and relax for a while. One of those hygge feelings! Friendly staff and would come here again!
