Great local place. Yes it's cheap and cheerful. The limited menu delivers tasty food and the margaritas are great. Love it there.
Chilled atmosphere. This is great place to come and eat! You rarely have to wait for a table and the setting is different from your typical Mexican Restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I love a lively place but it's nice to go somewhere that isn't "cheesy". They make a refreshing mojito, and the portion sizes are huge. But if it's too much you can ask to take it away in a doggy bag! Iv'e tried most of the menu, and if you aren't in the mood for chicken fajitas or beef burritos they have a really nice fish dish! It caters for all tastes. They play really good, chilled out world music and I like to finish off with a glass of Amaretto! The staff are very friendly. I've recommended many of my friends to go who have all enjoyed it.

Have we lived in Europe for so long that our standards for Mexican food have dropped, or is Blue Parrot Cantina actually a good place to eat? I think it's the latter. The menu isn't extensive, but all the staples of a quality tex-mex place are there: burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, and more. On our most recent visit we started with the black bean soup, which was well-spiced and interesting. I continued with a vegetable chimichanga, which was every bit as good as I remember the chimichangas at our regular Mexican haunt from my stateside childhood. The melted cheese was plentiful, which is exactly how I like it.
The margaritas were tasty but not quite the right consistency - too little time in the blender left them at this awkward stage that was neither frozen nor on the rocks.
Service was fast and friendly, and the food was obviously all prepared fresh in the small, open kitchen. The decor is simple yet appealing, and there's a certain coziness to this low-lit basement dining room.
This place is a gem. I discovered it before I left Edinburgh and was so glad it was still here when I returned. Amazing food and lots of choices, especially for vegetarians. Great cocktails too!
Fantastic placeserving sole freshly made food and delicious margaritas. I've been coming here with my wife for 15 years and what we love is everything is consistently good quality. The menu is the same, the interior is the same, and coming for our favourite dishes, knowing they will be wonderful is a real treat. Best Mexican in Edinburgh, we've been to others which weren't anywhere near as good (or still in business!).
My husband and I had the loveliest ever evening meal at Blue Parrot on our recent stay in Edinburgh.Stater cocktail and fabulous homemade corn tortillas and dip. Amazing fish dish for me and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his chicken chimichanga. A wonderful little cantina. Thank you
Lovely food, excellent value for money, good drinks selection. Very cozy environment and not too loud. I think you should consider booking at the weekend. We were a group of 4 and we wouldn't have found a free spot if we didn't book.
Lovely authentic Mexican cantina such a lovely find away from the rush of Princes Street. Staff were really friendly and service was good. Good portion size and the little starters were great to share, giving you a taster of what to come.....
A nice little Mexican place in the stockbridge area. Has a good vibe with nice seats. There are cocktails and spirits a d a few beers. The food is mexicanish with burritos, fajitas and enchiladas. It's a relaxed environment and good service. The drinks are a little expensive for my liking but overall it's a good experience. Portions sizes are good so think before you order. The flavor of the food was lovely
Excellent food. Very tasty and very filling. The margaritas are awesome (beware... They are not for the faint hearted). Service with a smile and very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting good Mexican food
It is a good place to enjoy a Mexican food in Edinburgh. The menu is pretty good and the prizes are not expensive. The flavour of the food is really good. Honestly, I enjoyed every bite of food. The staff are great, very focus on details that the customer need.
Nice relaxing restaurant serving good size portions of a selection of Mexican favourites along side a good bar menu with all the cocktails you would want to see at a Mexican cantina. A bit of a hidden gem to impress friends or a good spot for a date.
Goto place for meals with friends. Menu doesn't vary much and no specials, but there's sufficient choice to keep us coming back. Staff are friendly.
Very quiet last night despite being a festival weekend. Usually it's packed and you need to book in advance
A wee gem in Stockbridge that certainly should not be judged by it's humble exterior! The interior is cosy and the food has to be tasted to be believed. We have tried numerous Mexican restaurants and the food here was probably the best I've tasted. An added bonus is that they accept Taste cards most days of the week.
Lovely Mexican food. Consistently good quality and taste.
Friendly staff who catered well for my birthday meal. Strawberry margaritas are delicious.

Amazing place for both it's atmoshpere and food quality. I would say it's more of a home-like food which I loved to have with my partner. Great place to have lunch or dinner in relaxed atmosphere. Stuff is super friendly and helpfull ! Than kyou for a nice dinner ! :)
Looking for places to eat near our hotel we stumbled upon this little gem... well, not sure you can call it 'stumbling' when looking online but you get the idea.
This casual basement 'cantina' would be easy to miss when walking down St Stephen Street but it definitely is worth a visit. After a hectic (Sun)day of shopping all the restaurants near Princess Street were extremely busy so we retreated to the Stockbridge area and were very happy to have done so.
Blue Parrot Cantina was only a short walk from the hotel and Mexican food sounded like a plan since it had been ages.
The interior at Blue Parrot Cantina is rather basic/casual but with a cosy feel. The open kitchen is reassuring even though we were slightly worried being the only diners (except for one other couple) at 6:15pm. Any concerns were immediately wiped away after the excellent grilled salmon starter, to the point where I found myself thinking "why is this place not packed out?". The Pescado Baja main was equally succulent and the obligatory nachos tasted of more.
As time went by more diners came in and my taste buds kept doing a happy dance...
