Blackwood's was my choice for dinner both nights of my stay in the Nira recently. I was delighted with both meals.

Over two nights, I enjoyed a starter, two different mains and a dessert. The chicken supreme was delicious, while portions all round were healthy enough. Perhaps a little pricey, but having had excellent food and service, two visits were a treat! Along with good wine and whisky from a selection - their own single malt was a surprise - it was a good choice for quiet dining.

Absolutely amazing from beginning to end. Booked this place for my partner's birthday. The amuse bouche was chicken pate which was divine. We had cheese soufflé and butternut squash ravioli for starters, equally tasty but would definitely recommend the cheese soufflé. I had never had anything quite like that before. For mains, I had the Seabass and was not disappointed in the least and my partner had the sirloin which was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was to die for. They brought out a special complimentary birthday dessert. All in all superior service, excellent food and a lovely atmosphere. Would recommend a million times over and will definitely be back!

Had dinner here this evening and loved it.

The service was fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious.

Bread was served with three different butters, pesto, coriander & lime and plain with salt as well as a portion of balsamic & olive oil. They even had gluten free bread for our GF dining companion even though we hadn't told them beforehand.

Amuse bouche was braised ox cheek on a mini yorkshire, a delightful morsel! My starter of mussels with whisky cream sauce was so tasty I devoured the lot even though I'd promised to share with the table.

Our steaks were cooked to perfection. There really is something about meat cooked on a Josper grill. Chocolate fondant to finish was well worth the 15 minute wait. Dark and decadent, it was the perfect finish to the meal.

Even though we were there on a voucher, we still had great service. Really can't wait to go back again soon!

We went here as the place we wanted to go was closed, and so glad we did. From our host, to our food, everything was excellent: an absolute hidden gem on a quiet street. Will definitely be coming back here after a 5 star experience. Big thanks to our host, he was fantastic and a good chat. The steak was perfect.

The best meal my husband and I have had out in ages. Fantastic fillet steaks, cooked exactly as we requested. Starters, sides and desserts were all bursting with flavour, fresh and complementary. My allergies were taken seriously and catered for. Our waiter greeted us warmly and was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive but not overbearing, and professional. The restaurant was quiet and relaxing. Will definitely be back in future, especially for the excellent food and service.

If your are in Edinburgh you need to make time to go to this restaurant. Food was beyond DELICIOUS! I HAD the pitted very and cauliflower blue cheese soups followed by Chateau Briand with carrots, cauliflower and portobello mushrooms. It came with bernaise and a red wine reduction sauce. I ate every single bite. For dessert the vegan chocolate mousse was out of this world. I'm sad I only got to eat here one night. Next time will be a definite visit.

Much more posh than I expected from the previous reviews but very nice and welcoming! The food was excellent, not cheap but you get what you pay for. The steaks are sourced from a local butcher but it was slightly undercooked for my taste. Definitely worth a visit!

Lovely cosy atmosphere, made very welcome by Neil, our waiter. Starter of mussels was superb, interesting flavours with the chilli. The main course of steak, chateaubriand was cooked exactly the way specified, and very very tasty. Large helpings. A memorable evening .
