Reviews The Black Bull

An incredibly busy pub at the weekends, so avoid then if you have a dislike of stag and hen groups, or just rowdy men in their 30's acting like they were 20 again.

The variety of drinks is vast, kegs, casks and bottles for beer there are a huge amount. But the food is a master stroke, the manager picked up chefs from renowned pubs such as Element and the Albanach to bring a bit of flair to the regular pub grub.

Braised shin of beef on horseradish mash is fantastic, and certainly would not have been on offer under the previous head chef, but this is what you can get now. There are the staples still available, scampi, fish and chips, burgers etc.

The Black Bull proves to be a constant hit for tourists and, as evident by the bustling day trade, they continue to build on this reputation and go from strength to strength.

Very nice eccletic pub at the foot of the Grassmarket area. Nice selection of beers and a few tasty cocktails. Great for a late night hangout spot or just to watch a soccer game. I tries the mac and cheese and wasn't disappointed! Welcoming, clean atmosphere.

I had the Haggis, Wife had the beef pie. Both were excellent. The Grass market area seemed to be less crowded vs the mile. Would recommend this place

Nice staff, good food. We had a delicious fish and chips there, and one plate was enough to satisfy me and my wife. They have cold beer, nice music.

We have poped here for a little rest after long and wonderful walk, when we visited a real Tom Riddle's grave at Greyfriars Kirkyard and George Heriot's school. Nice beer and very friendly staff.

This place was so quiet, maybe because it was a Monday night. The music was amazing, had clean washrooms and spacious seating. The staff were lovely as well. If you want a relaxed bar setup where you want to go and chill with friends and cit chat, this is a perfect spot for you.

Fantastic friendly pub with a lovely atmosphere. Staff can’t do enough for you and although we didn’t eat here we heard plenty of good remarks about the food. Very welcoming with a very hands on manager who knows how to make people welcome, even on a very wet afternoon. Definitely worth a visit.
