Steak night on Thursday was amazing. £20 for 2 filets and house bottle of wine. Great fries, adequate seasonal veg; whole experience far exceeded our expectations.
A buzzing bar-cum-eatery half way down Easter Road, The Mash Tun offers decent real ales and a variety of weekday food deals to satisfy hungry patrons. Living locally, we’ve dropped in a few times before as it has plenty of seating and provided tasty options when we didn’t feel like cooking.
I love the Mash Tun! Always fantastic food, great selection of beer and the Service is great. The 2 for 1 pizzas Mon-Wed is probably the best deal in Edinburgh.
Having now been in The Mash Tun, it’s criminal that we’ve not spent more time in here. Mr Edinburger had been in previously for a few beers (many beers!) with friends and when he got home was raving about how good the beer selection was and how friendly the staff were. So when the chance arose to meet some more friends we choose here mainly because of the good atmosphere and because we live at the bottom of the hill so could roll down home if we had one to many. After returning from our few days away up North the fridge was empty so we thought we’d head up a little bit earlier and have some food before the rest of the gang arrived. We carefully selected our beers and then the task of choosing what to eat. The menu is packed with all the classics, lots of burgers and pizzas. Apparently Mash Tun is known for it’s good pizzas but on this occasion we both opted for a burger with different toppings. What seemed like only a minute our burgers promptly arrived and we couldn’t wait to get started. 7oz minced steak burger topped with haggis . Mr Edinburger’s burger was loaded with haggis and served on a seeded roll. It looked the part and with the haggis spilling over he couldn’t wait to get tucked in. The spiciness of the haggis worked well with the minced steak and gave it an added flavour. It was served with a side of chips and salsa. The burger was well cooked as was the haggis, it hadn’t been blitzed to within an inch of it’s life in the micro! The Mash Tun Burger – mincemeat pate, smoked bacon, goats cheese, chipotle sauce and onion rings. Now you might think that we have gotten the burgers around the wrong way and that the haggis burger belonged to me but on this occasion I couldn’t resist the goats cheese and smoked bacon. I honestly didn’t think it would come out as towering as it did and I think there was a little bit of food envy from Mr Edinburger. My burger was again served on a seeded roll with a side of chips and salsa. In order to eat mine I had to eat the
Fantastic selection of craft bar! Not something you'd expect to find in Leith. We had burgers when we were there and they were delicious. Staff very friendly and happy to help you pick out a beer to suit your tastes!
A very welcome addition to the bars on Easter Road. This venue replaced Utopia, which rarely opened, and presumably lost out to more traditional bars such as Middleton's and the Four in Hand.
The Mash Tun is part of a sweeping trend of bars rejuvenating the country, introducing flavour to the palette rather than a humdrum pint of lager. Instead there are beers available from across the globe, but there is more of a focus on the local brewers.
The food is of fantastic quality, and the two for one pizza deal is not to be sniffed at, especially as they are of high quality and much better than one from the usual go-to places for a pizza. The steak pie is of great quality, and I recommend adding in the haggis with it to create a fantastic meal.
This bar brings a city centre style drinking and dining experience, to an area less-known for it's fine bars and it is very highly accessible as it is a few minutes walk from London Road.
Your average pub with a better ambience. Drinks are a little dear for the location, I'd say. They have a large TV for watching sports in one corner. And there's open mic on Saturday evenings.
Brilliant pub on Easter Road, great beers, great food, friendly welcome. Good selection of tap and craft beers, well cooked pub grub, my mac n cheese was delicious. If you are in the vicinity, give the Mash Tun a try.
Very good local bar on Easter Road.
This pub does food and shows all the main sporting events.
Friendly staff.
Food is very reasonably priced - burgers between £10 and £11.50.
Good mix of beers on tap - delighted to see Tiny Rebel's 'Clwb Tropicana' on tap (£6.60) though they do have cheaper pints on tap.
Good full breakfast. Order at the bar. Football on the telly with sound. Nice enough place.
Great open mic acoustic night on Saturday. Plus, they sell alcohol.. 🍸
This is my favourite pub when visiting the nearby football ground of Hibernian FC, located in Easter Road, it's an independent bar with a comfortable feel a friendly good vibe and a good choice of fine ales. The only drawback is it's a tad expensive for a pub outside the city centre, over £10 for 2 pints. It also has large TV screens excellent for watching sports events.
Good food, nice service. Special offers every working day. The place is family friendly and has a kids menu.
Really nice pub with a welcoming atmosphere, good food, great gin menue(!!!) und lots of locals. Did not seem like a toutisty place and fair prices. We enjoyed a decent dinner after a walk up to athur's seat and had a good time there.
2 years ago I travel and I eat the most wonderful berger of my life, in this restaurant! I am not a vegan but this vege burger…My god it was good! Everything in this bar was excellent! Today I dream to be able to eat it again! (I’m from canada so it’s a little bit far from there)
food great portions massive tho. music on point too. from James and Gwen
Great wee boozer. Laid out nicely, food good, and staff quick and efficient.
This place can be very busy before and after football matches so unless you're going to the game I'd avoid an hour before and after.
Otherwise it's up there with the best in the area
Very friendly folks. Good beer and food. Really nice service. Free wi-fi
Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Visited with my dad who uses a travel size mobility scooter. Flat entry available through a slightly tight door, or through another door with a slight step. Disabled toilet available at the back of the ground floor, but I suspect it would be difficult to get to when the pub is busy. Staff couldn't be more helpful with any assistance required with access though. Food choice was a little limited but extremely nice and more than a step above the usual chain style offerings. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them
Popped in for lunch with family. Young blond irish girl had a friendly welcoming demeanour and we felt instantly comfortable. She recommended the vegan burgers which did not disappoint. Plenty to choose from and the espresso martinis are ace. Stayed much longer than expected and totally enjoyed the night. Highly recommended
