Lovely restaurant. We came here for lunch when we first arrived in Edinburgh, the waiter was brilliant and polite. There was a very varied menu. My partner had the salmon fish cakes which were fresh and tasty, personally I have never like fish cakes but I tried some of his and these were delicious! I had the soup with a coronation chicken sandwich, the sandwich was very filling and flavoursome! Portion size definitely was not an issue here!
The was a bar with a a huge variety of different drinks, the waiter really knew what he was talking about when it came to the drinks, giving me different suggestions as to what drinks would go with the food we ordered.
The Scottish smoked salmon here is delicious and very well served. The staff is nice and friendly. For sure I will return in my next trip to Edinburgh.
Great service and friendly staff. Food was really good and we didn't have to wait very long for it. And they had an awesome playlist to boot 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Drinking and dining is always a good option at rosehip. Visited the place 2 months back on my trip to scotland. I must admit I have visited to some very good places, heavy on pockets but you enjoy every bit of it and this one is one of them.
Enjoying an afternoon off in new town, sipping on pimms with baked Camembert- does it get any better!? Probably- if the outside view wasn't a scaffolded building. But the chutney and walnutted cheese paradise distracted us enough not to notice. Great value for a jug of the delicious pimms as well. Staff kindly brought us more bread- as if 3 pieces of ciabatta would have been enough! However judged we were, we sat content and well-fed.
The Rosehip has quite a relaxed, cool vibe, decorated with an array of artwork and draped fairy lights. The wooden tables were paired with an assortment of different chairs, and topped with candles in teacups which I thought was pretty cool. As it was a quick visit we just had a main course each. I had haggis, neeps and tattles with an oatcake and whisky sauce. My other half had the fish and chips. My haggis looked great, stacked up like a tower and it tasted delicious too.
Stopped in for dinner and was really please with the overall experience here. Good was good, Holyrood burger was very flavourful. Prices were reasonable and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Would happily go back!
If you are in the mood for an afternoon of nice drinks and food, head to The Rosehip this Bank Holiday. This is my go to place for a nice bar meal or for sitting outside drinking gin on a sunny afternoon.
I have been here a few times for both lunch and drinks and I have never had a complaint. The haggis nachos are excellent, they come with plenty of toppings! The fish and chips are also delicious, and the soup and sandwich combo is an easy choice.
The Rosehip has a good selection of drinks, including a variety of gins and cocktails. The atmosphere is great both inside and outside, and there is normally a gentleman playing guitar nearby - he is brilliant! I love the music he plays and I feel it really enhances my meal.
Sometimes it can be quite busy so the service may not be the fasted, but the staff have always been very friendly.
I would definitely recommend trying The Rosehip before summer is over.
Excellent wee restaurant for a meal either after work or shopping. I particularly like their Cullen Skink (a Scottish soup made from smoked haddock, onions, potatoes and cream for the uninitiated.) Shetland mussels, sea bass or a plate of fish and chips or haggis neeps and tatties. Good ol' Scottish comfort food! A very tasty change from the ubiquitous burger fare of some of the restaurant's contemporaries.
I came here for dinner, lovely place on Rose street! I've been told fish and chips was amazing but I didn't find it that great, plus it was with peas and not mushy peas but my friend got the lamb shank which was wonderful. I also tried the white chocolate cheesecake that was to die for but better share it as it's quite heavy!
Great lunch and friendly service. A very generous bowl of Cullen Skink and a rich creamy baked goat cheese made for a great lunch. The tomato chutney with the goat cheese was wonderful-if they sold it by the jar, I would have brought some home! Huge bar selection, I had the Smoky Mary; made with Laphroig instead of vodka. Unique and tasty.
I love this place for a chilled out coffee. Quirky decor and great coffee. Food smells and looks great but haven't tried it yet! Friendly and attentive staff. Great place for people watching! You can also sit outside, if you're brave enough to face the cold!
So last Thursday we were supposed to be enjoying a burger at TGI Fridays but this turned out not to be the case when we left hungry. We walked along Rose Street and knew where we could get a tasty burger. As we'd been dreaming of a burger all day, nothing else was really going to cut it so off we headed to The Rosehip.
The Rosehip has been on our list of somewhere reliable for a while now. We'd been on a few occasions with various vouchers and have always had good service and excellent food.
We both love the interior of The Rosehip, it's full of mismatched furniture and funky Scottish themed wallpaper covering the walls. It also boasts the largest Whisky selection in the New Town. It also has the added benefit of having seating outside for those lovely sunny days.

the best fish n chips ive had in ages
Walked into this restaurant on a busy Saturday lunchtime (along with the busy rugby folk up for the Scotland v France game!) Luckily there was a table available after 15 mins so we didn't have to wait at the bar for long. Have wanted to come here for a while with my partner so we were pleased we managed to get a table.
The menu was good, there was a good variety of dishes. As we were having a nice meal in the evening we decided to get something light for lunch so decided on the soup and a sandwich deal. When we came to order we were told that this was the only thing on the menu which wasn't on! Gutted! So had to review the menu to decide again what to order. I had the mussles in a spicy choritzo sauce and my other half had the muchroom risotto. The food was really good and we really enjoyed our meal. Even with the establishment being farily busy, we had a really nice spot by the window looking out onto Rose Street and it felt quite secluded.
I definitely think we will come back here again for some food for an evening meal and a few drinks. One of the better places on Rose Street I will definitely be recommending The RoseHip to friends to check out.
Lovely atmosphere along with amazing food and coffee! Had the lunch special, soup and sandwich, which was perfect for a light lunch to warm up! All fresh ingredients which you could taste with each bite! Would recommend!
Even though they are under staff, Andrew and the Colombian girl were lovely.
The food was delicious (you know ; one of these moments that you wish the food would never finish). I had the Highland steak and my partner had the sirloin. We shared as a starter the goat cheese. Everything was excellent and nice portions.
I tried the Boutique-y gin with the roasted pineapple and it was great.
It was a dinner for my upcoming birthday and it was a really great start to celebrate. We'll definitely come back.
Lovely place to have lunch, dinner or a cup of tea in the afternoon in the city center. Very good food, amazing desserts like the carrot cake and the apple and berry crumble. Service is quick and kind.
Dined here with my wife and found it to be excellent the service was very good the staff were friendly and helpful. We had sirloin steaks and they were done to perfection. I would recommend the Nachos for a starter. Will definitely be going back.
We really just happened to chance upon this place. We were in the area on a day trip just trying to get a feel of the city and do some shopping, and decided to try some smoked salmon since its one of the things Scotland is known for. This was one of the places that had a dish on the menu so we decided to give it a shot.
The place had a really nice authentic feel to it, from the displays to the cute plates. Of course we all just ordered the smoked salmon, and it was really good. Quite fresh, and it came beautifully plated with a side salad, toast and some cheesy sauce. A stellar dish overall. The salmon of course, being the highlight.
Dropped a star because the restroom was very inconveniently located!
This place was a great find for us. Food was really good, Haggis was tasty, and the whisky cocktails were divine
Really nice, attentive owner and staff. Food tasty. Good lunch stop. Evening menus looked good too....
Great choice food great location if you sit at windows in Summer. fast service clean tidy decor pleasant staff. would visit again just enjoy the food and people watch.
Great service. Great food. Amazing selection of beers, wines and whiskey.
I recommend to you the salmon fillet and the cheesecake home made. Delicious and elegant meals.
Very cozy little place, superb atmosphere and fantastic food.
An Edinburgh local recommended this to my for the Cullen Skink, and I recommend it to anyone for ANY of their dishes!
A perfect birthday treat. Medium rare and well done steaks cooked to perfection. An excellent choice of wines and unending choice of whisky. The staff were lovely and also knowledgeable of the menu. Not cheap but well worth it. Would highly recommend.
4 stars because of slow service, but food once arrived was excellent.
Great service, clean & food was delicious nice and hot. Staff very friendly.
We went for the breakfast. Good service and nice staff. The breakfast menu has a good selection with a Scottish cooked breakfast if you fancy it; looked like a bit of a feast. I ordered the French toast which was 5 stars. The table was sticky which was a bit disappointing.
