It features traditional, dark decor and has a few tables outside. They are on a slope so make sure you don't lean too far back after you've had a few beers. π

if i didnt have a family, work, bills to pay and enemies to slay id sit in brown pubs like this all my days and crack jokes with the bar staff while chugging ales and bitters and leering at the whiskys i know nothing about and dont order because im afraid to look dumb. didnt try the food but it look
Loved it. Stunning 'Level Head' ale beer. Service was great, and my 11yo daughter apparently loved their Mac&Cheese enough to want to move to Edinburgh!!!
We went in for lunch, very friendly and helpful staff when asking about details (allergies). Fish & chips were definitely up to standards with a nice tartare sauce, the portion of the mac & cheese was quite small but good. Cosy atmosphere!

Fish and chips were great. Husband said steak and ale pie was the best out of the 4 places he tried it. They were very crowded both times we went. Hard to find seats together.
Superb food and classic Scottish feel good service. Really lovely to sit out on the street and people watch. Gets busy so try and get their early.

Another cracking night in the Malt Shovel... Greame Pearson truly is one of the most entertaining acts you will come across... Very friendly staff, great mixed atmosphere and decent prices... would DEFINITELY recommend!!!!

This is literally my favourite Pub in town. Staff is always friendly and there is lots of banter going on too. Great service, clean environment and really cute Pub. Would highly recommend. You will not regret it and it will end up becoming your local πππ
Great friendly service even though the server was run off her feet. Lovely bit of fish and an unexpected rugby chat with a nice South African fellow and his partner. Glad we spoke before the world cup match tomorrow as the tone might have been quite different post.
