Watched the Six Nations rugby in this pub. It was very busy but the service was great and the food delicious. Friend raved about the chilli sans carne and my aubergine and harissa burger was fab. Great place

Went to Hector's for lunch today with the girls-having seen their delights in the form of small plates. Opted for the squid, which came with a tasty chilli mayo, poutine and Spanish sausages with salsa. The squid was lovely, the poutine was OK (was bbq sauce and not the delicious gravy I had imagined) and the sausages were the pick of the bunch for me, nice smoky taste. But the winning dish was the mac and cheese side with truffle mayo. I could have sat and ate those all day. Service was a bit wishy washy- but the food and company made up for that. Wine was reasonable too.

I've been to Hector's a few times - for lunch and drinks, and they've always been good experiences. They served hearty pub grub and a select set of decent cocktails too. I've had their sausages and mash for lunch and it has been , as you'd expect from a good pub, hearty and good quality. Their burgers are worth trying too.  Their Britsih Gin Mojito is tall, tasty and good value. Worth checking out if you are in the Stockbridge area.

Hectors has been around for as long as many people can remember and has built itself up to be a Stockbridge institution. It’s definitely a firm favourite amongst many locals and having recently undergone a full refurbishment the pub is looking better than ever, with a brand new food and drink menu it’s sure to catch the eye of many more people.  The interior has been thoroughly spruced, with the bright and airy front bar offset by a cosy back bar with an industrial edge with plenty of space for drinking and dining.

When we visited Hectors it was a sunny Thursday evening. The place was busy but without seeming over crowded. There were a mix of people along with the occasional furry friend.

The beer selection is good and they stocked a few of our favourites. We were there for dinner and the menu is normal gastropub type food. Fish and chips, burgers, ribs and a new addition to the menu small dishes. I ordered a selection of these dishes namely the calamari, chicken wings, homemade scotch egg with some chips, whilst the other half dived straight in for the ribs.

The food arrived promptly and smelled great. The quality didn't disappoint although the only one thing I think they could improve is the temperature of the food. It could have done with a little extra time in the oven.

All the food was tasty and cooked well. Exactly what you want from high-end pub food. It's the perfect place to sit and have some food whilst people watching.

A stalwart of the stockbridge scene. Been there over 20 years. Good selection of drinks and beers and the food is always a good standard. Recently refurbished too. What's not to like.

I love people watching. Amy had been delayed so I sat in the bar at Hectors absorbing the atmosphere. It was an early Thursday evening and the place was packed.

Not uncomfortably so, just full of people enjoying a drink. There were groups that looked as if they were work colleagues; a dog trying very hard to get its owner to pay it some attention; mature ladies sat in the window gossipping, younger guys propping up the bar. No set target audience then! Strangely, there were very few people sampling the food whilst we were there.

Hector’s high-end after-work pub grub was exactly what Amy and I expected. There was some imagination on the menu, with ‘small plates’ offering a good selection of snacks to absorb the pre-dinner beer, whilst the pub essentials of burgers and pie were untouched. We were delighted to see the mains were thoughtfully presented too, for once arriving on plates rather than in containers.

We were surprised by the emphasis on produce from England, not Scotland – sausages and Sunday roast pork from Suffolk and Kent and West Country rump steak and Cornish Brie for example. Perhaps we’re missing the back story somewhere? The mains were of a good size, we particularly loved the slow cooked British short rib with ginger ale ketchup that also appeared on the chicken wings.

Of what we sampled, we felt the seasoning was a tad hit and miss. The padron peppers really were nothing but bitter, whereas the chicken wings’ ginger ale ketchup had real zing and sat on the right side of sweetness, a veggie option tomato, olive and roast vegetable croquettes with green chilli and pesto was fine, but again could have had a little more seasoning.

We finished our tastings with a large sundae glass of chocolate praline profiteroles with Jude’s salted caramel icecream and Devonshire (West Country again!) caramel sauce. Whilst we pondered who Jude might be, the dish was quickly devoured. A lovely sweet finish to the evening.

The prices are reasonable and the menu a lot more interesting than the average, so we will risk the noise of a packed evening’s office banter and go back to try more.

Amy has her eyes on the flatbreads, salt and pepper squid and the poutine (a Canadian dish made with french fries, topped with a light brown gravy-like sauce and cheese curd). I rather fancy a mixed platter with Black Combe ham, scotch egg, olives and tomatoes, stout-cured salmon and toast.

Do check out their Burger Day on Mondays when you can get a drink and a burger with chips and all the trimmings for £9.

I love Hector's for many reasons. First of all, it's so close to my place and so well located that it's impossible to miss it... But also because of the great customer service, the very awesome food (their fish and chips is amazing, and so are their brunch dishes), the comfy couches and all that natural light.

AMAZING! Had a real facelift (both menu and pub itself) in the last year. Restaurant standard food at pub prices. Homey feel, relaxed, value for money. The only place to be in Stockbridge!

Waiting too long!. Still a great place to hang out, love the music and the bloody mary breakfasts are a legend - however starting to get a bit shabby (smells a bit stuffy and few chairs need replacing) and the food is coming out partly cold. Still a popular place because of the high demand in this area, however up to half an hour wait for the breakfasts on a Sunday morning. Could do with more kitchen efficiency and a good spring clean!!

I always like to sit at the high tables when I have brunch at Hectors, which is quite often. I must be a creature of habit after all, but when it's one of those 'brunchy' days it has to be done. Hectors is always busy, but I'm usually not disappointed with the seat thing. Or the food. Or the drinks.

Given that I don't normally stray too much from the familiar here, today I decide not to have my usual Veggie Breakfast. It's great, with proper veggie sausages and veggie haggis. Nope, today is a Bloody Mary day, beer and oh my, it's a pie on the menu.

The Bloody Mary's at Hectors are perfect, I go for extra spicy. They are not joking.

The pie is roasted veg, caramelised onion and blue cheese. When it arrives it's huge. The pastry is lovely, the veg chunky and hearty but the cheese sauce somehow doesn't work too well. Too blue. Maybe just a cheddar and mustard sauce would've been better? That's the traditional me... The wild garlic pesto on the side is good too, but it's all a bit too many flavours for one dish. I'm not complaining though, it's not often the comment from a veggie is 'too much flavour', just for me personally...

The draught Innis and Gunn won't get any complaints though. Next time I'll probably switch back to the Veggie Breakfast. It's good to be adventurous, but when it comes to familiar comfort it's hard to beat.

Our first evening out in our new neighborhood (or neighbourhood, if you must), we were lured into this comfortable, inviting bar. Several ales on tap, which made me happy.

They had a food menu with today's date printed on it, leaving me to wonder how many of the items on it were daily or weekly specials and how many were standards. I'll surely figure this out eventually, as I'll definitely be back to Hector's (if only because it is so very convenient).

Service was friendly and prompt. The menu contained a good variety of vegetarian options, especially when you consider all the starters and sides available. I imagined my way through several orders before settling on the lentil and spinach burger. It was OK, but not spectacular. The fries were a bit underwhelming. My favorite parts of the meal were the sides that came with Scott's pie - very tasty kale and mash.

Since then we've been back several times, and the place has really grown on us. Lots of tasty food on the menu, and the rotating beers on tap are always interesting. If anything, my one complaint is that it's too popular - often it's hard to wander in without a reservation and find a table.

We had a lovely drink at the bar and dinner at a table yesterday evening for our first night in Edinburgh. Great atmosphere, good beer, delicious traditional food with a twist (vegan and vegetarian options available) and friendly welcoming service. Nathan, our waiter, was lovely ! Definitely recommend this place. We may even be back during our stay !✨

We live nearby and this is our usual place. Food has been brilliant recently. In a world where inflation has pushed up prices and people are cutting corners everywhere, Hector has managed to strike that perfect balance of a proper Sunday Roast at a competitive price with no compromise on quality and taste. Well done, and please keep it up.

One of the best places for service from genuinely great people. Difficult to describe how good the staff are without sounding cheesy. I had forgotten what service is all about until I had a nice Friday night meal here. Thanks for making a great night

Place was clean, food was good just shared a appetizer and fish&chips. Liked the simplicity of the place dog friendly inexpensive and the drinks were good. Asked for a coffee drink like with Baileys they didn’t serve it ok then asked for a Manhattan and they didn’t make that either. 🫤

Me and partner are vegan, and we wanted to eat at a place that would accommodate our diet restrictions but also have menu items available for our parents who are traveling with us that don’t. We had a delicious lentil pie plate with side of roasted carrots and greens. I also don’t drink alcohol and was pleasantly surprised by their selection of NA beers. I had a Lucky Saint Lager. Service was excellent, atmosphere was grand. Can’t wait to come back one day and do it all over again.

Came here on a Friday evening for dinner with a friend. We were sat at a table near the back, so it was quiet without losing the atmosphere. The service was impeccable - attentive and the servers had a sense of humour, which always helps. The food was delicious - really fresh and tasty. Good portion sizes. I thought it was reasonably priced. Would happily come back here!

Brought my parents from Hong Kong to Hectors right after their long long flight and waiting ages at the car rental. Mom was exhausted before but completely recharged and happy afterwards!! Exceptional customer service - the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Very comfy seats and lovely interior. Most importantly the food was thoroughly enjoyable!!! The pies, the fish and chips and the haggis are all worth trying. Good sized portions and fair price for the quality they offer. Decent amount of vegetarian choices too. Definitely would recommend especially if visiting nearby area! Do make a reservation especially if you’re going on the weekends.

We had such a brilliant lunch! The staff were great fun and really made us feel looked after. The food was delicious. There was a wee wait for the desserts but the good humour from the staff made it easy. Thanks so much!

Visited Hectors as part of a large group (18 people) at the end of June. We didn't have a reservation but the staff were brilliant and managed to accommodate all of us straight away. The food and drinks order was taken really quickly. The staff member checked for any allergies etc. Everything arrived exactly as requested with no delays - very impressive, especially as I think everyone ordered something different. Its a lovely space, nice and cool on what was a very very warm day in Edinburgh. Special shout out to the lady who was coordinating our group (I think possibly the manager). She was really helpful and made a special fuss of our friends who had just gotten married the day before. Would highly recommend for a visit!
