Olly Bongos is a fantastic place to get an inexpensive breakfast with a wonderful wait staff and chef. I have been several dozen times over the course of a year and have never been disappointed with the food or service. During the fringe they are forced to hire additional serving staff who are less familiar with the menu and pricing, but the regulars make sure everything is well sorted. Their coffee is on par with surrounding coffee shops but at a lower price and their food is always fresh and cooked to your preference. I have only eaten breakfast foods and can not speak to the other meals, but I would expect the same level of service and food as earlier in the day.
It is very much open and serves excellent food.
Time for a coffee. Was wandering up Morrison Street when I came across this place. Looking in the large front windows it looked inviting so popped in for a latte. There is a large counter on the lhs with a display of cakes and pastries. Just had a latte this time but the selection looked tempting. I sat at one of the window seats, nice big tables and plenty of room. The decor is fresh and tasteful and it's clean and tidy. The service was quick and friendly An enjoyable visit and I look forward to going back soon.
From the pointed slippers and painted plates hanging on the walls to the traditional music and brightly patterned upholstery this place has the feel of a relaxed Eastern Mediterranean-ish cafe.
There are a variety of closely packed seating options with standard table and chairs, slightly cosier banquettes and some couches at the windows - which on sunny days are wide open adding to the "being abroad" feel.
Completely ignoring the Eastern vibe I opted for a Mexican (tortilla) wrap with cheese, chicken and tomato. The wrap was warm and crisp with a good filling and served with olive laden salad and a small portion of minted yoghurt.
A nice change from a run of the mill cafe with the opportunity to branch out beyond the standard sarnie option to something a little more adventurous - although the British cafe favourites are there too.
I will return and next time try something more in tune with the decor..

The warm cous cous salad was full of roast vegetables, sun dried tomatoes and black olives. Plenty of salad around the outside and served with warm pitta's. The only thing that was missing in my opinion was a little bit of mint to freshen the whole dish. It's a really colourful, warm place to have lunch which I loved on such a cold day.

Been here a few times and the one thing that is consistent is the quality of the food. The mezes are authentic and delicous. Whilst the partner and friends shared a large plate I choose a vegetarian breakfast and whilst not in a mediteranean style, it was very good and good value. The staff are very friendly and polite and its worth the walk up from the city center.
Food was delicious and there was a large variety of dishes in a single plate.
Good choices for vegetarians and vegans.
We got the corner seat with pillows and window which was great!
From the moment I phoned ahead and heard the friendly voice on the line I knew I had made the right decision. The waiter was very warm and helpful, the food was absolutely delicious (highly recommend the Moussaka and Baklava), and I felt entirely comfortable throughout our meal. The price was reasonable for the feast we had ordered. I can't recommend this place enough and I will certainly be back.
I was planning to visit this place for quite some time but somehow I couldn't. Went there today with my boyfriend & I have to admit that food was so delicious 😋 people super nice&friendly. For sure I will go there again 💕
The restaurant has a warm, welcoming atmosphere and has a well-decorated interior. Server was quick and friendly; I was seated near the window with a nice cushioned chair. The medium meze came with plenty of food at a very affordable price, and was of my most memorable dishes in Edinburgh! Highly recommend for great Mediterranean food.
Great place, the food is first class & the staff are really good & friendly. Will be back.
Amazing place! Staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely top notch - everything on the plate was delicious. We got a medium mezze and a mix kebab and shared it all between two. Would give this place 10/10 and would definitely come back!
Recently had a complete make-over (today 27 Oct 2018 they reopened!) We had a lovely breakfast and coffee, very friendly and kind customer service. Would highly recommend coming here for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Excellent!
Impeccable food served in a cosy environment; Mediterrenean decor adorn the walls and delightful melodies soothe you into a welcoming culture. Baklavas are heavenly and can be enjoyed on their own along with the acclaimed Turkish coffee. The server was amiable and attentive to all patrons!
Just been for a take out iced latte and spanakopita. Portions are generous, price in standard with the area.Service friendly, attentive and quick. Ingredients are fresh and the pastry really well made and nicely aromatized. Being a Sicilian myself this place gave me a taste of Mediterranean flavours. Will be back, efharisto!
