One of my favourite places to treat myself to a cake. With a friendly staff, warm atmosphere and delicious cakes especially the black forest gâteux which I almost always get. This restaurant is good for introducing friends to edinburgh's coffee culture. The two cakes I would suggest is the black forest and the double chocolate gâteux for a choco fix that isn't too overpowering

The window display did do the magic of getting us in to satisfy the sweet tooth. Tried the Berry Mousse and Chocolate pastry both were satisfactory.

We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon for cakes and coffee. The window display is very attractive and we dare anyone not to be tempted by it. Once inside the waiting staff were friendly and quickly set about bringing our order. The highlight was the double chocolate mousse cake which was light and very rich. The other portions of cake are generous and the coffee pretty good. Not a bad place to stop by and spend a few hours. To our surprise they also offer a food menu, maybe when we return well sample some food

I fell in love with Patisserie Valerie when I was really missing sweet french pastries and walked into this place by accident! Dreamy!

They have everything I could dream of : macarons, eclairs, mini berry tarts, cake, ice cream, etc.

I think the ambiance of this particular location is nice because it's quite a large venue and doesn't feel cramped. But it is a bit noisy because the door onto north bridge is always open. I've had mixed encounters with waiters as well - some kind of rude because they have so much to do (which I can understand, but still stresses me out as a customer) and others very nice, like having no problem in replacing a drink when I found something in it.

With different friends each time I've visited either their North Bridge, Rose Street and George IV Bridge stores, I've always had a different pastry and I can never really decide which I like best. I've had the Giotto, the Mille Feuille, the Strawberry Mille Feuille and the Chocolate Mousse which has a profiterole, kind of like the proverbial cherry, sitting daintily on top. If you're a big fan of pastries, I'm sure you won't be disappointed, although I've told in good faith by a French friend that it's not as impressive, but for those of us who can't tell the difference and enjoys a nice sweet delight, you're sure to be impressed.

There are lots of choice on offer in the window and if you tilt your head slightly more to the back, be prepared to just go 'wow'. Their beautiful hand crafted sugar masterpieces (also known as their handcrafted cakes for special occasions) are sure to set your mouths watering. Now, which one to choose on this visit?

This particular outlet of Pattiserie Valerie is located just off the Royal Mile, near North Bridge. The display in the window is so interesting that it forces your feet inwards, even if you are not conscious of actually having moved forwards.

They have an amazing range of fresh pastries in their windows. We had already finished an extremely satisfying dinner, before taking a walk, but we could not resist this Patisserie. We just ordered a Giotto - do note that there is a roughly 1 pound markup for eating in-store as opposed to takeaways.

It was like a tiramisu with lots of alcohol in it and cream and sugar. What more can one ask for.

A convenient place to stop for breakfast on the way to Waverley Station, providing a lot more space and selection than the coffee and tea shops inside the station. My husband liked his cappuccino quite well. Our pastries on our first visit were okay. The best was an almond pastry crusted on top with sliced almonds and also filled with creme. The pain au chocolat had a surprising lack of chocolate, while the croissant was a touch burned. Our return visit the next day was much better. I enjoyed a pot of peppermint tea along another almond pastry. Everything was spot-on.

Brilliant pastries and selection of classic gateaus. We also had one of the raw vegan cakes which was also perfect..! Well worth the money, these aren't cheap but you get a package deal for a takeaway box ;-)

Always up to the Valerie standard, never been disappointed by the food quality or service. I cannot help but mention this one time when me and my best friend stopped by for brunch and we were served by the most exceptional waitress in the world. Her name was Amelia and she not only provided brilliant service, but made our impromptu brunch date an unforgettable experience. We ordered too much and as the food was too good to go to waste we asked for it to be packed for take away. Once we got home we were surprised to find the loveliest wee note from Amelia, who also had left us a few complimentary sweets! I would recommend this location to anyone visiting Edinburgh, just keep in mind the place is usually crowded

Great place to grab a quick croissant or pastry in the morning (ask for it to be heated up if you can), but my favorites were the macarons - VERY good and fresh! We didn't have any issues with rude service as a few reviewers have mentioned. In fact, I think the two times we visited, the staff were quite normal friendly "people" with personality and a warm demeanor.
