Mussaman curry, rendang beef both tasted like being in Malyasia. Lots of locals eat there (good sign). Servings are generous and quickly served
Had this delicious Char Kuey Teow at Nanyang restaurant during my first time visit to beautiful Edinburgh city. You can request for spicy or non-spicy version, but I chose for the non-spicy one. It tasted delicious, and the serving portion is quite big for an Asian. Besides that, their Nasi Goreng, Lemon Chicken, Dim Sum, Nasi Lemak, Tom Yam are delicious too. Great ambience, friendly staffs and fast service.
Yum! I've never had food before that exclusively identifies as Malaysian, and the experience was a pleasure! The highlights of the meal included the softshell crab and the pandan pancake for dessert, definitely make sure you sample those two dishes they were incredible!! I would say there's no need to try things you could typically find in other cuisines as well such as the satay. Stick to the unique food as it is worth it and you won't have a preconception of how it's supposed to taste! The service is good and the decor is peaceful.
I went to this place several times whenever I missed the food from home, and the overall taste of their foods were quite good. It could be improved, but maybe because they tried to cater to international taste they need to alter the recipes. A good place if you want to try Malaysian cuisine, but not if you're searching for authenticity. The atmosphere of the place was nice, but it could be very busy in the evening.
I've been to this restaurant few weeks back and should say this restaurant serves one of the best Malay foods in town. We missed to make a reservation and went there directly. It was so busy n even on a busy evening, the staff squeezed us in between. Staff was very friendly and warm. We chose a couple of dishes from the favourites and some others from rest of the menu. Each and every dish were too good. Salt and chilli soft shell crab were bit salty for my taste buds otherwise everything was fine. The other dishes were roti canai, nasi lemak, nasi gorang ayam. Price is mid range.
Please book before you visit coz it was our good luck that we got a table.
I just love this place! I went a couple of times and food is great! This is the first Malaysian place I've ever tried and I loved it! I tried almost all the entrees and I fell for their curries! Service it's fast and the staff very kind, always a plus
It's good when you discover a great place to eat when you aren't really looking, Nanyang was one of those gems. Friendly welcome to a fantastic looking restaurant, traditionally decorated and very clean, even the restrooms, (I always check them before I eat). Typically, we checked out the food being delivered to nearby tables, made choosing our meals harder, everything looked delicious. Generous portions, lovely presentation, and more delicious than it looked.
I went along to Nanyang for a friends birthday dinner. It's at quartermile which is an upcoming location for restaurant, bars and businesses in Edinburgh. I knew only one Malaysian restaurant before, up at Fountainbridge, so was happy to try another. The place is immaculate. Very nice decor. Chick and modern with obviously Malaysian motives. It was a really good change for my previously known place as that one is really tacky and flashy but their food and service is top notch. So. Let's see what Nanyang offer!
We have had some drinks first and order was taken as normal. Can't really judge the service be honest as it was a quite a big table and that's different than a table for 2 however it still should be good, which it was. There was a few misunderstandings with some very cute but very young waiters but we didn't mind at all. Everyone had a starter and a main. Starter went really well. Main...hmmm... I had char Kwai theo. I'm not showing off. That's the only food I know! It's prawns with noodles and veg kind of thing. I had that a few times before. This time it was cold and I had 2 prawns in it. 2 prawns! My entire world collapsed! Why? It was not just me but a few others were not overall impressed. As I say maybe because the number of the party ( 10 ) but as I know hospitality inside out, that shouldn't be a problem or if it is get pre orders beforehand. So yeah...it's a shame as the place looks really nice inside but I think if I fancy Malaysian again I'll be back to my tacky but good food place.
Excellent. Food was delicious and fresh, and prices were comparable to other places we have been.
Loction is excellent.
A nice Malaysian restaurant offering traditional dishes in a relaxed setting. The food was tasty and portion sizes were nice and filling. The staff were nice but the restaurant atmosphere was a bit like a hotel bar / lobby. I'm giving 4 stars because it was good and has room to grow.
Extremely happy with our meal at Nanyang. The service is very attentive and the food extremely authentic. The laksa curry was well done - every request absolutely spot it - spice, sweetness in the cold teh tarik. Really enjoyed the Char Kway Teo - reminded me of the hawker centres in Singapore, flavour wise.
Try their nasi lemak. Very nice for £14. It comes in a bog portion, can be eaten by two (or three girls if their on diet!)
This was my second visit to this fab restaurant took five friends on sat 22 for lunch they were all overjoyed with the food service and the beautiful wee restaurant. Will definitely be returning again.
Very busy, the service a bit slow because when I went it was dinner time
Food is superb can really taste the “charred” in CKT
Hot & sour soup too sour and too much tomato for my liking
I will come back again cos the main dishes all look good and legit
Quite a nice place. We had spring rolls, laksa, 🐔 skewers, and fried rice with egg. It took a couple of reminders to get what we ordered but we got there eventually.
Had dinner over at this Malaysian restaurant near the quarter mile complex. Greeted promptly but the staff. They even agreed to help store a tub of ice cream in their freezer while we had dinner. Polite and cheerful team and very prompt service from ordering to getting our food served.
I love this restaurant, the decoration is beautiful, this is a family restaurant, very warm and friendly staffs.
I ordered laksa with rice noodle, it was scrumptious and savoury.
And for the drink, the teh tarik has balanced sweetness which I like.
Definitely will visit this restaurant again.
Was our first time trying Malaysian food and they didn’t disappoint. Everything is halal and you can have the wine removed from all dishes apart from a couple of the beef dishes. The food was really tasty and reasonable prices. The staff are really nice and friendly- even though the bubble tea counter was closed, they still made us bubble teas which was really lovely of them. Would definitely recommend and will definitely visit again when in Edinburgh.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 | Highly recommended the joy of Malaysian Food in edin.
I have been to this restaurant few times, can’t believe they have kept the quality of food and service always great.
I am quit sure whether is or not good at the authentic Malaysian food, cuz I just been to KL once, but I think it will be the best Southeastern Asian restaurant in Edinburgh. It will be a good choice to let you have a chance to explore Chow Kwei Tiao, Nasi Lanark and many others Malaysian food.
Hokkien mee is quite spicy with nice soup base, just like which I ate in Penang.
