Reviews St Giles Cafe & Bar

This quaint little cafe hidden away underneath the Cathedral provides a great reprieve from the bustling streets of Edinburgh. Good, simple food that doesn't claim to be anything it's not. My sweet potato soup served straight from the Cauldron with little Oatcakes was warming, filling and served with a smile. I would recommend this charming little cafe for a quick refuel while exploring the city.

Everything is delicious. Everything my wife and I have tried at St. Giles' has been delicious - their specialty waffle with bacon & brie is amazing, the ciabatta sandwiches are tasty, the ham & cheese croissant was great, and they have the best lattes I've found in Edinburgh in a week of sampling. Even the interior of the building is visually pleasing; it's a really pleasing place to hang out, relax, and eat/drink well. Don't pass it up! The only inconvenience we found was a lack of high chairs for little kids, although that's not too surprising for a cafe and not a huge deal if you can leave the kid(s) in a stroller like we did.
Highly recommended if you're in Old Town Edinburgh!

Just had lunch here - soup and toasted sandwich. It was simple, but homemade and absolutely delicious! The service was excellent and the cafe has a great ambience! Absolutely recommended...a little gem just off the Royal Mile.

This café’s interior is beautiful. They have left the walls unplastered and the stonework is just lovely. The floor to ceiling windows allow plenty of light, but it

I've been in here a few times recently and I've become a big fan. I regularly pop in during out tours of Edinburgh (always like to support local shops) and it always goes down well.

Firstly, the staff are always friendly when I pop in and it's always nice and warm, great for these winter months. Secondly, they do a good strong flat white (my staple) and the food selection is really tasty as well. I also like the fact they have a lot of alcohol on their menu (I'm not an alcoholic, I just like choices) so it feels a bit more grown up. Also with the outside seating that appears in summer (we do have summer here, usually for about a week in July) you could even enjoy some alfresco drinking. Perfect.

Great aesthetic, combining bright and cheery with Edinburgh’s atmospheric stonework. Okay coffee, although a little small for my liking. Super friendly staff.

Great food, nice coffee and a nice atmosphere. Service was also nice. We came here early in the morning to have breakfast and it was a lovely experience. I had the bacon waffle, it was a great belgium waffle which was very yummy. The bacon ontop of it was also really nice. The salad on the side was a bit unnecessary though. My mother had a waffle with like greek yogurt and oats ontop (you can see it in one of the photos). The latte was really good as well, the foam very well made and so was the coffee. I would recommend coming here as it isn't that expensive and a lovely place to have breakfast!

Their special, St. Giles Waffle that has cheese, syrup and bacon has a unique taste. Loved it and ate it too fast to be able to photograph it beforehand! Their shortbread is also quite enjoyable.

What attentive and sweet service. We felt so cozy and welcome. Great coffee shop to relax and regaining energy after long walks on the cobblestone. Thanks for the wonderful time.

Friendly attentive staff, quickly got sat, drinks arrived quickly I got the Edinburgh Mist, which is similar to a London Fog and he got a Cappuccino we both liked our drinks, the House Special waffle with melted Brie was interesting and tasty although wish it was a bit crispier. Has a local vibe with big windows.

A small cafe/bar offering an excellent selection of good quality drinks and snacks. Nice, French-ish styling, bright and airy with a busy, intimate atmosphere. We had cups of English breakfast tea and watched croissant with cheese and tomato and a brown bacon roll arrive at the next table - we briefly considered having another breakfast as they looked very good! The people were friendly and service was prompt. We spotted several regular local visitors while we were there which is always a good sign. The toilets are downstairs; small, tired but clean. Good value.

What a perfect place. The staff were so friendly and attentive. The menu had a great selection and keep an eye out in the specials board. The ginger beer was spot on. To finish we had scones warmed up and every so slightly toasted - yum!

"This tastes like it was made by angels!" -4 year old. My two kids loved the croissants and sitting out on the patio. Best chai latte I've had in Scotland. Wonderful service as well!
