Went with friends on a very busy Friday night. The staff were all very busy but very lovely and made time for all customers. There was a slight delay with the food coming but that was to be expected on such a busy night. I asked for gluten free and got a hand written menu detailing the adaptations I should ask for. There were some sushi options but I went for the duck fried rice and got a huge plateful for a very decent price. They also provided gluten free soy sauce. I would say my food wasn't bad, but was nothing special. My friends enjoyed the spicy tuna maki and the bento box. For the price and the service, it was a nice wee night.

I recently tried Bentoya for the first time for a lunchtime takeaway Bento box (chinese) and was not disappointed. The food was fresh, tasty and very reasonably priced. I'll definitely be returning to try the sushi bento box next time. Highly recommended.

I had heard lots of good things about Bentoya before I went... and the place was all I had been told it was. Great affordable sushi and bento boxes. Only bad thing is that the service is a bit slow... other than that, fab place!

Very good and arguably best sushi in town. Their lunch deal is a bargain and so tasty! The only negative is they do need more staff to deal with the volume of customers.

I finally went to Bentoya and I really liked it! The place is tiny but cosy and the food is delicious, I had dragon roll and tempura maki, very good and with quite cheap price for sushi. The only down is the stuff which is a bit quick but I'll definitely go back!

I went around 5pm, it was busy at all however when we where seated I had too wait a good 10 minutes without a menu then I had to ask for a menu and we where given one.

I ordered seafood noodle soup and vegetable tempura. The tempura was great however I didn't find the seafood noodle soup flavourful enough although I did add chilli. Although, the dish itself was very filling and the portions where so great, not to mention the prices! I've never paid less than £10 for prawns here it cost £6!

My little brother order tiger prawn shush I and it was presented beautifully, he's managed to eat the whole platter! And he said it was great!

A part from the mishap service at the beginning this place is pretty good!

I have been meaning to try Bentoya for a while now as I have read a few good reviews. So when my friend suggested meeting here for dinner I quickly agreed.
There were 4 of us altogether and we hadn't booked a table, but we managed to get a table straight away. It soon filled up and the restaurant was full.
We decided to order a dragon roll, vegetable gyoza, sweet potato and butternut squash tempura and spicy edamame to share. Then we each ordered a main course; I opted for the salmon bento box. The prices are relatively low for sushi so I expected the potions to be small but they were massive. We ordered far too much food! However, it was all fantastic so I am glad that I got to try everything. I have also had the 5 kinds of sashimi here which I would highly recommend: it's amazing! The selection of sashimi can vary but if you love fish, you'll love this platter.
The service was good and the food just comes when it is ready, which is great because you can nibble at different things.
I still can't believe how cheap it was for really good sushi. We were £15 each and we were stuffed! Bentoya will more than satisfy your sushi craving without killing your bank account.

I've been to Bentoya a couple of times now and it's quickly becoming my go to place for Japanese cuisine. The service has always been very quick and incredibly friendly, even during a busy Saturday during the fringe. Inside it is fairly small but has a really nice relaxed vibe.
The two times I have went there, I have tried the lunch bento box and the dinner bento box. They come with great choices and very reasonable for your wallet. Both times I ended up with the salmon teriyaki, which is really tasty but it doesn't have that strong teriyaki flavour that I am used to. The fact they come with miso soup is always great. You can't beat a nice hot bowl of miso soup, especially when you are under the weather.  The sushi has always been fresh and they have a great selection. I'm pretty sure I am going to find myself there a lot more in the future.

Bentoya opened towards the end of last year and I've been many times ever since. It's small but the service is very friendly and they really appreciate a customer. It's very budget friendly and it's BYOB as well which is perfect for Friday and Saturday nights! Theirs sushi is fresh and for the price it's a bargain! My favourite is their volcano roll and from the starters I like salt & pepper squid and hot & sour soup. I've had their bento boxes many times as well and I'm always happy with the size and quality. Today I had a duck ramen soup and since I wasn't feeling very well it put me back on my feet! Overall a place that I can definitely recommend!

Amazing food and lovely staff! I had the chicken teriyaki and the salt and chilli squid (which I had to take a photo of obviously) and both were delicious! Also marks my first meal eaten totally with chopsticks! ?

So me and one of my food best friends Jordan wanted to go for dinner, we were going to get a take out but decided to try somewhere new. I've been recommended Bentoya twice and even have it saved in my bookmarks. 5 minutes from my house and allocated near Lothian road, Edinburgh. Bentoya kicks Yo sushi's ass! Fresh fresh fresh! I got myself a seafood bento box! For£8/9 so filling so I asked for half mine to go.
The misso soup was exactly how I like my misso, light and flavourfull. Good service, only thing I did not like was the stools we were sitting on as it was backless so after a while we just wanted to leave. An annoying thing was they done accept card :/ which is weird in this day and age. So had to find a bank machine to take some cash out. Really busy for a Tuesday evening, relaxed atmosphere

Having never tried Sushi (being a vegetarian), I thought I would venture out for some to Bentoya in Edinburgh. I'd heard some wonderful things about this restaurant, and it was all true - I had a wonderful first experience of sushi there ! Firstly, the ambience was wonderful - warm and cosy yet elegant at the same time. There were atleast two vegetarian options in each category, which was lovely to see. The prices were not too expensive, my friend and I managed to have a starter and two dinner box sets for just 20£. To start with, we got the spicy edamame - it was very flavourful and not too spicy. For the mains, I got the vegetarian dinner box set and my friend got the salmon dinner box set. Both box sets came with soup, which I thought was a very nice addition. All in all, I really enjoyed dining here and will definitely visit again !

I usually go to Yo Sushi! and heard that Bentoya was better. I booked a table for 4:30pm for my Partner's Birthday meal. It was pretty quiet at this time but it was cosy and was given a really lovely seating area. We ordered a starter, which was chicken dumplings. They were amazing! Such good quality food and really delicious. We also ordered king prawn chow mein, prawn tempura sushi roll and chicken katsu ramen, the food was absolutely incredible. It tasted really fresh, was beautifully presented and was very filling. I would highly recommend Bentoya to anyone and I will definitely be visiting the restaurant again! To top it all off, the bill was only £28!!!

Was having an exhausting day and really needed some comfort food to lift my spirits up. I got to Bentoya and knew this was my calling; but unfortunately for me the sign says "cash only" which was annoying because I was right there dying for some good Japanese food, but instead I had to look for a cashline. Thankfully though there was one 3 minutes away. Walked in and the staff was really pleasant and nice and the menu was pretty affordable. I wish I could order a lot more items than I did because I was salivating, reading the menu. What I really love though is that you have the option to choose either 2 pieces, 6 pieces or 8 pieces of sushi which is perfect because I went alone. I had 2 pieces of the prawn sushi and chicken gyoza. With my weakness for sushi, I can't say I didn't love it BUT the chicken gyoza was absolutely terrific. Delicious and I need some more of those crisp yet tender, oily pieces of deliciousness.

Well, I'm going to jump on the bandwagon here and proclaim my absolute love for this place. In one month I've visited three times - that should tell you all you need to know really but I suppose I should write something a little more informative.

Firstly the value is absolutely incredible, five of us ordered an absolutely ridiculous amount of food and the bill didn't even reach £80. It's also BYOB so the perfect place if you want a light bite before heading for some more drinks.

Whilst all the dishes were good quality there are two in particular I'd like to recommend. First up we have the Salt and Pepper crab, whatever rub Bentoya is using it's incredible - so moreish that we ordered two extra portions. The flavour is incredible without being overbearing at all. Second I would like to recommend the Volcano roll, snow crab meat doused in a deliciously creamy sauce topped with very aesthetically pleasing shredded chilli that almost look like strands of hair!

Definitely one of the best new places to try in our delightful city

Bentoya is a really impressive new Japanese place, packed with charm and high on quality. I've visited both for their excellent value lunch and in the evening and was very pleased with both visits. The tuna and salmon sashimi is outstanding and I really enjoyed the mixed tempura, too. Get visiting, soon!

We concluded by saying: "Bentoya is right up there in the hierarchy of Edinburgh Japanese places. It’s very different and much less formal than Kanpai, but that’s the only place to challenge it on quality. I’d recommend that you visit soon and visit often. Indeed, I’ve already been back to try their evening menu and was similarly impressed."

My first 5 on Zomato. Been here for dinner twice now and still cannot believe the value for money. We have left both times pleasantly full yet failing to spend more than £30. The quality of food is excellent too. Spicey soups, delicious fresh gyoza and wonderful Bento boxes containing a varied selection allowing you to try samples of a range of dishes in one sitting. We had the salmon and chicken bentos (see pics ), each portion in the boxes succulent and each box served with rice and a seperate bowl of miso soup.

It's BYOB with no corkage too and the service is very friendly (and quick).

We will be returning- often.

Let's get one thing straight - I am about the least sushi-esque person there is. Previous encounters with the chilly dish have left me shivering in search of more familiar foodstuffs. Part of my psyche has never really been OK with the idea of having a cold dish as a main meal in the evening either, leaving me with mysterious hunger pangs and a disjointed feeling that the day lacked closure without a proper hot meal.
Enter Bento Ya - a new and welcome addition to the mad hotch potch of eateries and drinkeries between Lothian Road and Tollcross. My initial impression on the snowy eve I first crossed it's doorway was one of coldness - between the bite of outside and the array of struggling electric heaters huddled against the sleek, modern tables - perhaps this isn't one for the 'winter warmers' list. Happily, this rendered the two cans of Tennents hidden deep in my pockets as cold as if they'd come straight from the fridge, furthering my enjoyment of the BYOB experience.
Settled on the plumfy cushioned bench seats, perusal of the menu leads to absolute confusal of me. Luckily my dining partners were more seasoned sushers and so had a better idea of what to go for.
First to arrive was the Tempura Soft shell crab, sparking terror in my belly, still aquease from the previous night's festivities. One of my many failings in life is my complete and utter fear of crabs and crab-like creatures, something I'm not afraid to admit, and these battered beasties come still crab-shaped.
After 10 minutes staring down my foe, impaled on my poorly-weilded chopstick, I took the plunge and sank the bugger, overcoming my anxiety and entering a realm of flavour and awe.
Dish after dish arrived - too much variety to recount the whole thing but highlights included the octopus slices, chewy and with REALISTIC SUCKER ACTION; the googly-eyed mega-prawns which keep an eye over preceedings; a slice of 'mystery mush' which turned out to be sharply pallet cleansing ginger; and the constant and attentive table service which ensured mon amigo's green teacup and kettle were kept near to overflowing.
With my lack of sushi knowledge I can't contribute to whether or not Bento Ya is good as they go, but as a quality dining experience for pittance it's a must-try - elliciting feelings of fear, uncertainty, libatiousness, a test of one's commitment to overcome all of the aforementioned and as a genuine nice place to be - all in it's an absolute bargain!

Bentoya, this cool Japanese joint in Edinburgh, and I gotta say, I was blown away by the spicy noodles I had! They were absolutely delicious! The service was also really good, and the staff were super friendly. The only bummer was that the tables were a bit too close together for my liking, which kinda killed the vibe a little bit. But all in all, it was a pretty great experience, and I'd definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some yummy Japanese food in Edinburgh!

We arrived mid afternoon and sat right down. The service was very good and the selection of food was very good. We enjoyed the baked eggplant very much. The dynamite roll was tasty and the chicken katsu curry was also very good. Cold beer and relaxed setting. Highly recommended.

Great japanese food its tasty and fresh. The fish was delicate and melted in your mouth. Also the duck was very tender. Everything was seasoned well. The menu offers everything one would desire from a japanese restaurant. Pro Tipp for the undecided, choose the Mix Bento Box, it has a little bit of everything. Service staff was quick and friendly. The place is not very big and can feel a bit crammed at times. Its not wheelchair accessible (stairs at the entrance, very small space between tables) I will clearly come again.

A great place with a great atmosphere. The food was fantastic for a reasonable price. At least, if you stay away from the A5 Wagyu stuff. The only minus point is the overly eager service, they are constantly coming by with "do you want to order." Or the second you take your last bite "can I take the plate away." Also they gave out food in separate times so I had to awkwardly eat before my partner or let my food go cold.

Really tasty food. Staff were great and guiding a sushi novice. We ordered lots of the small plates so we got to try lots of different things, but the menu is huge. Can't wait to go back and try more! All the food came out super quickly too.

The food was amazing, very delicious. We ordered 3 ramen (crazy chicken katsu, pork belly, and miso), a prawn tempura and a sushi dish (16 sushi). Everything was delicious. I have eaten sushi for 30 years in so many places but Bentoya was the best one. The crazy (means hot) katsu ramen was very good and spicy. The service was good too, it was quick and friendly. The place wa clean, the toilet was clean. It was a small place, but wonderful food.
