"Chakkaree kalakki" I am a mallu and I am not just recommending but going one step further to tell you what to order! 1) prawn pollichathu starter(heavenly onion gravy) 2) Pork olathiyathu 3) Thoran beans + carrot 4) kitchadi beetroot 3) steamed rice 4) chappathi/naan ( porotta no good) 5) beef varattiyathu. I will go there again and report what is best in sea food as Kerala is a coastal state.
I heard an English guy order Lamb dhansak and the waitress hadn't even heard that name. Please people, this is a speciality Kerala restaurant u should know what to order. Save your tandoori and Tikka order for another restaurant.
Stellar food, excellent service. The best Indian food I have had thus far. The dishes were full of fresh spices and the meat/seafood was good quality. Heartily recommend. I wish this place was a lot closer to home! (Check out the Pepper muscles and coconut rice).
One of the best Indian restaurants in Edinburgh and most under-rated. Food is delicious. I have introduced many people to Mezbaan and they have all loved it. A group of us return here faithfully every couple of months when we have a night out.
A must visit for anyone looking for good authentic south indian food. Generous serving at reasonable price. Much better than other high street curry houses.
Friendly and polite staff :)
Good luck with the new name 'Nilgiri Spice'š
Went for a dinner with a group of friends. Great Indian food, especially when compared with other Indian restaurants in Edinburgh. Taste was amazing, albeit a little spicy. A star less because the desserts weren't sufficiently good. Had kulfi and gulab jamun. Gulab jamun was not soft, and kulfi just didn't taste that good, or even properly like a kulfi. Staff was friendly. Not very spacious, but comfortable. Definitely good food and big portions! Will eat here again.
My advice would be to ignore negative reviews posted by competing businesses. Having travelled widely in South India and sampled many other Indian restaurants in Edinburgh, I'd say that The Mezbaan offers delicious food at reasonable prices served by polite and efficient waiters in a relaxed and friendly environment.
After attending the Rugby on Sunday we phoned this restaurant as it was just round the corner from our hotel. Despite being really busy they managed to fit us in and I have to say that this is one of the best Indians I have been to in a long long time. The food was excellent and the service was also. I can especially recommend the Chicken Tikka Pakora for starter. 10/10
Most authentic and delicious Indian food (let alone South Indian food) Iāve had in Scotland. Iām from the US, and this place has by far the best chaya (or chai as some of you like to say) Iāve ever had outside of India. When you ask for tea and they ask you āwhich kindā, make sure you say you want the Indian style tea, not the British. Your welcome in advance.
You get a free glass of wine with 2 courses! - well yes you do!!
Tasty south indian food! My goodness its coconut heaven! Lovely food
Nice atmosphere and service was spot on !
I went for South Indian vegetarian, and got that ... delicious! It also serves classic British- Indian dishes, your chickens, lambs, Kormas, biryani etc. So, this is a great restaurant to satisfy a group of people with different ideas of what they want from an Indian meal.
Had a lovely meal with cheerful service. We had a prawn dish and two veggie dishes, all bursting with flavour and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend folk giving it a try.
Absolute class Kerala (South Indian) dishes - as good as we have ever eaten outside India! Been there a number of times and would keep going back. Really surprised to see some negative feedbacks, looks suspiciously biased!
I've tried a number of Indian restaurants and takeaways in Edinburgh and frequently been disappointed, even by ones that were reviewed highly online: too often, the curries come with poor quality meat, a sludgy consistency and little flavour. Mezbaan is marginally more expensive than the average takeaway, but the difference is more than worth it: the dishes here are mildly but carefully spiced and clearly vary from one another in look and taste. My chicken dish had enough oil to make it tasty, without being swamped, and the chicken pieces had the texture and taste of proper chicken. The menu is south Indian, but includes classic curry house dishes like jalfrezi and chicken tikka massala.
I think Mezbaan is one of the finest Indian restaurant I have ever had dinner in UK ,particularly the south Indian food. The taste and preparation is well maintained just the way it is found in real south India.I enjoyed the uthappam and onion masala dosa thoroughly with its delicious sambhar and coconut chutney.
The north Indian food is equally well prepared with mouth watering peshawari nan and garlic nan bread.
The staff is very pleasing and seems to be really enthusiastic to serve the customers.
My overall experience is marvellous and would definitely suggest every individual to taste India away from India in the beautiful city of Edinburgh at Mezbaan.
The fish cooked in banana leaf was fantastic. Really enjoyed the meal with the family. We visited with no booking with 3 little children, but were welcomed and accommodated quickly.
The vegetable main courses were delicious and of the right size. The lassies were also very good. The place lacks a little bit of Indian atmosphere, but the staff is very friendly.
