This place was awesome! The cheeses on the charcuteries plate were so good. Such great snacks before the main meal. They had a great chef in the kitchen with excellent recipes. They were also very friendly and helpful staff. We have a 1 year old and they were very kind and understanding and even offered him some little cookies to help him settle down when he was upset. Really enjoyed going to this place and the prices were great too!
Really good spot if you're looking for a good priced meal. Been here a few different times for lunch and had the burger and fries as well as the steak fries. Both times the food was delicious and relatively cheap! It's also incredibly convenient in terms of location as you're right by the Royal Mile. Some of their food specials are hit and miss but if you're looking for a good priced, well located spot, The Outsider is worth a pit stop!
Absolutely Fabulous!
World class cuisine in a exquisitely appointed neo modern setting. Great daily specials & drink selection. We loved it.
Great service apart from one waitress that seemed to be hungover but since everyone worked well together it did not dampen our mood - we’ve all been there…
Would give them 6 stars if I could! Fantastic, perfectly balanced, delicious homey dishes, and exceptional prices especially during lunch. Plus they have specials which change daily. Went back again and wasn't diasapointed.
I rarely write reviews but this place is worth it. It’s a lovely contemporary European restaurant, laid-back but elegant and sporting fantastic views of the castle. The lunch menu is very reasonable - most items are under £10, including a delicious plate of mussels cooked in white wine. The specials change every day and are priced similarly (today there was hake and rabbit). Service was excellent too: one of my friends was waiting for her food for a while, so they offered us all coffee on the house. On the whole, an excellent lunch spot, perfect for catching up with old friends, a business lunch, a date etc. The wine list looks fantastic as well, though it was a little early for that. I’ll definitely be back!
Absolutely stunning!
Ordered a pull pork sandwich and gnocchi for lunch here. The taste is really good. The pork juicy and tender. Sauce is full of flavour. Gnocchi is also a good light choice for lunch with refreshing veggies.
The view from the window is lovely with a good sunny day. Price are also reasonable for lunch.
After some disappointments in other places we tried The Outsider and it was a really good choice ! We were 8 at the table, we ordered meat and fish courses which were all very good. Tasty food and much better prices than what we saw somewhere else for comparable quality and much smaller quantities. Beautiful view for those who are lucky enough to be seated near the window. It would be perfect if the place was less noisy.
The service was great and it's a lovely atmosphere looking across to the castle. Unfortunately the veggie food was a bit of a let down. The starter of Beetroot risotto was ok, but the main of wedges of squash was odd and lacked any depth of flavour. Shame as I was really looking forward to eating here. The meat dishes did look great, so perhaps not a place for vegetarians.
I don't normally post reviews of restaurants that I dine at. However, there are always an exception to the rule.
On arrival, we were warmly greeted with our coats taken and stored away from the dining area. The restaurant, was candle lit and was bursting with atmosphere. Service was timely. The menu had a great choice particularly in the fish/seafood division and reasonably priced. The muscles my wife had were wonderful and the trout I had was cooked to perfection.
My score would be 9.9 out of 10 (I always leave room for improvement, but in this case I am not sure if there was any where they could improve).
For us a great dining location.
Great atmosphere and service in this restaurant. We ordered the steak, lobster and pork which was all very good. The Gnocchi was incredibly salty almost to the point of being inedible. Overall, great time here with the exception of the gnocchi and a beautiful view of the castle from our table.
By far one of the best meals I've had in UK in 5 years! Every dish came with attention to taste, quality and presentation! We had 2 meals here in one week. Noticeably all 4 main courses were over salted though (veal, trout, hake, bavette). Not necessary to dump so much salt when diners can add extra at the table if they wish. Superb customer service.
My favourite restaurant in Edinburgh (FOR LUNCH). Incredibly high standards for food with a daily menu that's always been interesting.
Out of the 8 times that I've visited this place, I've only tried the regular menu 3 of them. Great views of the old town from a huge open, bright dining room.
And you won't break the bank for an exceptional meal.
Wonderful experience. Got there at 12pm amd got a table right away, great views of Edinburgh Castle- food was exceptional and our server was super sweet. The Outsider might be my favorite place to eat in the city
Lovely restaurant, relaxed atmosphere with unexpected views over old Edinburgh. Food absolutely delicious, and friendly, efficient service. Lunch, very reasonably priced.
Went here for lunch. The restaurant has a really nice view of the castle which is a big bonus. A bit crowded, but the food was good and the service really fast and efficient.
Had the most lovely lunch with an incredible view. If you're in Edinburgh you must visit Outsider. The food is great and the atmosphere is fantastic and the staff are amazing. The waiter I think his name was Biagio made our time here very special, he was super helpful friendly and provided the best experience. Thank you very much. Can't wait to return when we are back in Edinburgh.
I love this place, whenever I have friends visiting Edinburgh I always take them here. They have the loveliest staff, food is amazing with amazing prices too, and a great view. Just the perfect place!
