Absolutely gorgeous decor, I’m obsessed with the lights and velvet wallpaper, flipping good bangers and mash, massive portions and luxurious plating, just the fried mars bar tasted like it was fried in an oil used for something else too and that’s not ideal. But lovely characters of staff and a perfect ending to our Edinburgh stay 👌🏻
Good food... Fish and chips hit the spot and so did the pint of beer.
Table service was slow. Had to wave for attention a few times. Place seemed to be very busy and packed given it was only a weekday at 630pm.
A fun place to eat with a large selection of
non-alcoholic drinks. The food was fantastic. We had the fish and chips with the homemade tartar sauce. Very good.
Very nice pub/restaurant in a great location. We stopped just by case but we feel very welcomed and we got surprised by the quality and variety of food and drinks.
We saw may costumers having the Haggis, Neeps and Tatties so it is surely a very good place where to try this Scottish speciality.
The place is nicely decorated and large. It has an underground floor that was empty at the time we visited so you will surely find a suitable spot.
There is also a good selection of Drinks. You have even have a nice selection of cask ales.
We will surely come back on our next visit to Edinburgh.
Probably the best meal I have had in Edinburgh! The halloumi fries were the perfect starter! The mac n cheese is to die for!
The atmosphere is amazing and the staff is wonderful! When visiting ask for Sangje, he is the greatest and has great recommendations, we love him! Our favourite server from our visit! We will absolutely be back next time we visit Edinburgh!

The staff's expertise in whisky is truly impressive, and they take pleasure in sharing their knowledge and helping you discover your new favorite dram.
But what truly made my Friday night visit to The Canon Gait unforgettable was the live singer who graced the stage. Their captivating performance and soulful vocals created an enchanting ambiance that added an extra layer of magic to the pub. It was a musical experience that tugged at the heartstrings and made the evening truly memorable. Trust me, this singer alone is worth the visit.
Of course, no pub experience is complete without good food, and The Canon’s Gait delivers on that front as well. They offer a tantalizing range of traditional Scottish dishes that are prepared with care and showcase the rich culinary heritage of the region. If you're seeking an authentic Scottish pub experience that combines great drinks, wonderful entertainment, and delicious food, look no further than The Cannon Gait. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
So good we had to come back a second time. The highlight was the Cullen Skink soup. Smoked haddock, potato, and onion. Don't miss out!! The pie of the day (pork today) was delicious as was the bangers and mash. Our previous visit was pie of the day (venison), Chargrilled Gammon Steak, and mac and cheese. We started with a "wee bit of haggis".
After a long siteseeing we got in for a lunch. Nice and kind staff. Fast service and delicious food. I tried the Classic Fish & Chips my wife wished Highland Chicken.
Absolutely delicious Fish & Chips. Hubby got the pie of the day (Steak & Guinness).
Royal Mile prices with a 10% service charge automatically added to the bill. Happy to pay that as the service was fantastic and the food was delicious. Friendly cheery chatty staff.
We'll definitely return. And I'll have the sausage & mash in the giant Yorkshire pudding next time as I saw so many coming out of the kitchen. They looked fab.
Traditional pub with perfect beer and haggis. The only place we could find for a traditional scottish live music. The best atmosphere 👍🏼
