Amazing Indian food, probably THE BEST in Endiburgh. WoW experience....
The staff is also very professional and the services is lightening quick.
Me and my sister had been to watch a show at the playhouse and called in afterwards for some food. Best curry I have ever tasted! Had the Chicken Balti. Just called on the off chance as from West Yorkshire, staying overnight in Edinburgh. So glad we chose this place, beautiful food, friendly attentive staff. If I'm ever back in Edinburgh, will visit again
A very polite & humble restro where the staff are also polite & warm. The ambience is okayish, however they make it up with there delicious food. I used to dine here almost every week, such was the charm of food from this restro. The Dal Makhni & Mango Lassi are must try here.
Passage to India is a restaurant with very limited choices. There are very selected items available in the restaurant. Being an Indian , I expected a little more from an Indian restaurant.
But , Anyway, we ordered chicken tikka masala, yellow dal, Rice, king prawns , lamb chops ,keema naan and fish cutlet . All seafood items were delicious without a doubt. Lamb chops were delicious. But , coming to the keema naan and chicken tikka masala, it tasted sour and felt like its 2-3 days old or the material/ingredients which is used in preparing these dishes are old.
Overall , needs improvement on there food and staffs too .
We went to this Indian restaurant after trying out Kalpna & tuk tuk during our stay in Edinburgh and this was also a good one taste wise we ordered ala crate & had enjoyed the food, service was slow...they took almost 30-40 mins to bring the food.
I visited Passage to India with a friend on her recommendation. I often don’t go to the strip of restaurants opposite the Playhouse as they can be busy due to pre-theatre traffic but we went a little later to avoid most of this. From the outside the restaurant looks tiny bit it is a narrow, long dining space so there is plenty of room inside. I was delighted to see that chicken balti was on the menu so I couldn’t resist ordering it as it harked back to my university days when I first discovered curry. For my starter I ordered lamb chops. My dining companion for the evening went for hariyali chicken as a starter and chicken biriyani as a main. We couldn’t resist getting poppadoms and a pickle tray too.
Had dinner here tonight (01/01/16)... (As part of my 2nd Edinburgh visit) ... As we were dying to let our tongues some indian taste. This rrstaurant is avg in respect to quality n taste of the indian cuisines, but not up to the mark.
They served the main course before the starters. Then as there were quite a bit of delay for the starters to appear... We had to ask them to take the main course back as they were getting cold. This is sort of mismanagement. Besides the the staffs didn't seem to b really willing to serve us.. May be because we were late night customers on the new year's day....
The ambience is ok.... With Indian music in background which any indian ears will long for in this English country...
We ordered... Mango juice, lime soda, vhivken tikka, steam rice & chicken dupeyaza.
The quantity of the dopeyaza n numbr of chkn pcs were less than we normally expect to suffice 2ppl.
But overall it was an okay kind of experience.
We were looking for Indian food and we notice this restaurant and step in inside it. The ambience was not so wow but its a decent. We ask for Hallal food, the waiter said yes they served hallah but when we ask to show him the certificate then he said they dont have but the food is halla. Not taking a chance we ordered Dal Tadka with Butter naan and a Paneer tikka gravy with Mushroom rice. The food was really amazing and the dal was very delicious. We enjoyed the food and definately will come again if we get a chance.
The outlet is situated at Leith Walk, Broughton.
First time i visited this place i didn't like the food much however my second visit was memorable one. i went there with my colleague at second occasion. he knew the place and had some word with Attendant as we enter in the outlet and also went inside the Kitchen to talk to Chef. Surprise to me that he is so known to the place. When he came back he had a smile on his face and said please give me review of the food after having a dinner today.
Seriously the food was so dam yummy. With Kobra Draught, Seekh kabab and Tandoori chicken were just out of the world. both the dishes were so damn spicy and yummy I can't explain it even, That reminded me of Delhi's Spicy chicken.
My colleague explained that it is so spicy only on his request as restaurant don't serve such spicy food normally.
We went multiples times there whenever we feel like having very spicy food.
Restaurant changes its preparation upon our request and mad yummy dishes. loved it.
My review is based on my visit in 2012.
Food is incredible, really tasty and extremely good value for money. Great service, attentative without being overbearing. The restaurant is modern and clean with a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

A good spot on Edinburgh's curry scene. Tried the green herb chicken with coconut rice, and got to say - thumbs up. Would be back any time.
Fancy and intimate Indian restaurant; we really enjoyed the Punjabi food here and had such a relaxing time.
Really good Indian fare, especially the dal makhani and bhindi masala. Just the right amount of spice and quantity of the food for 2 people. The chapati could have been a bit better but overall really good. The price was reasonable and the service was good.
My fiance and I visited this beautiful, quiet restaurant on 5/11/23 while on vacation in Edinburgh.
We had ginger beer and an appletiser as our drinks, and also had the chili garlic tiger prawn with butter naan, and the Kerala fish curry with boiled rice. Both were just right in terms of spiciness and taste.
We were served by Bikash, who was polite and very hospitable. I would definitely recommend this place again and again for great meals!
One of the best Indian restaurants I have visited. Great papadums (not overcooked). Lamb chops were tasty and succulent, unlike the dry and shrivelled-up versions that are often served up. Chicken korai was perfect. Service was attentive and very friendly. And excellent value for money.
Highly recommended.
Great authentic Indian food and service
Just back from our annual break in Edinburgh for the Fringe, and what can I say about this restaurant? Food was glorious, the tarka and makhani dahl's were some of the best I have ever tasted, the breads and chapatis were perfect and the Veg Biriani was gorgeous if you like ever so spicy! The team need congratulating, from the outside it is deceptive, it is a first class Indian restaurant with a first class food. Highly highly recommended.
Food was good. Very recommended and polite behaviour of the staff will attract more customers
Discovered this restaurant around the corner from our hotel on a recent stay and decided to give it a try. Much larger interior than what it appears from the street. Nicely appointed and spotless inside. Staff were quite friendly and took out order promptly. Stated with vegetable pakora which was very good but a smaller portion than we are used to at home. Then had the Butter Chicken and King Prawn Biryani with rice and naan bread. Really nice flavours. The Butter Chicken was slightly sweeter than we were used to but still very good. A nice meal.
Had a delicious meal here last summer. The staff were all very friendly and present to make sure that everyone was looked after. The food was absolutely delicious as well. I ordered the paneer butter masala with mushroom rice, and it was absolutely delicious, couldn't reccomend enough. The atmosphere was also very pleasant, it was quiet quiet on the day that we went but that didn't bother us, would without a doubt go back!
Absolutely flawless, would 100% recommend - the best food I've had in a long time. The service was fantastic too, Pranish did a wonderful job of serving us and the staff were overall very friendly.
Would recommend for couples, familys or anyone looking for a fantastic meal - a truly hidden gem of a place.
Good food good ambience recommended 👌
Amazing restaurant. Perfect meal. Brilliant service. Also wiped the few pieces of rice off the table after meal. Customer service the best!
I wasn’t sure whether to go with a 3/5 or 4/5.
I’ve tried around 6 or 7 Indian takeaways so far in Edinburgh and I would score them between 0-2. I’m determined to find a good one! So now I have one I can order from.
Food ordered: chicken tikka starter, this was ok, perhaps a little over cooked unless this was from not eating in. Bombay aloo, unusual but by far the best in Edinburgh so far. Would suggest using a little less oil though (and salt!).
Chicken jalfrezi, nicely cooked chicken and nice tasting sauce. Quite hot which was great! Peshwari naan, not so great, was a bit dry and tough. Again ?maybe due to being a takeaway but others manage to send ones well.
One free poppadom was sent too but arrived completely obliterated. Mint sauce was ok, onion salad was really good.
Overall pretty decent. But I haven’t sampled a lot of the menu. Would go for rice next time instead of naan in case todays wasn’t a one off.
Was supposed to walk down to the oldest Indian restaurant in Scotland but saw this on the way there and decided to give it a try. Staff were nice and friendly. Ordered lassi which was very rich and nice, briyani and chicken balti plus garlic naan for mains. Briyani had a big portion of rice but little chicken in it but was okay. The chicken balti was very good, I loved it. Naan was okay nothing special.
Very kind and caring staff. The food was delicious, we ordered vegetables pakora, chicken pasanda and lamb biryani. Definitely a place to try if you're visiting Edinburgh.
An absolute must. Was there on 11th August party of 6 and 6 clean plates .starters and mains .Staff where just great and a pleasure to serve. Will be back next time in Edinburgh. PS Tom Jones was great as well 😂
