We're big fans of Castello. Great Allpress coffee, lovingly prepared from espresso to macchiato to piccolo to flat white - all top notch. Outdoor seating with a great view of the famed castle. Very nice soups with an emphasis on vegetarian, plus yummy cakes 👍🏼
Popped in for a coffee and a snack after we'd been recommended Castello Coffee by a colleague at our work training. Definitely lived up to the recommendation, Long Black was spot on and the Palma ham and Gruyere croissant was super tasty! I'd definitely pop in again anytime I'm near by ??
A Worthy Addition. This tiny coffee outlet is easy to miss at the castle end of Castle street. It's nicely finished inside and has the bonus of tables outside. There is a small selection of soups and bakery goodies along with teas and chocolate. I had a large latte and it was excellent although a bit pricy. It's a busy place even though it's surrounded by the big chains. A good effort and recommended.
I’d suggest you pop in to Castello Coffee soon, as they’re doing good work
Castello Coffee is a small independent coffee place on Castle St, lacks a bit of atmosphere but the coffee is just great and perfectly executed...
I bloody love this place. Any time I'm nearby I always have to go and grab a drink.
With the current trend towards trendy and the habit of barristas to sneer at you if you do anything to their beverage except worship it, it's a glorious change to find a place with great coffee and no attitude. The staff in here are all delightful, managing to be efficient and friendly all at once. I've never failed to find a gluten free treat if I need it, they have a loyalty card and you get a discount if you bring your own cup.
Everyone comments on it so it's worth mentioning that the staff are rather easy on the eye as well!
I love trying new cafes and I certainly advise on trying Castillo coffee. They are absolute lovely and always a smile when entering. The tea was beautifully displayed and had a lovely taste of fresh leaves. I absolutely loved the croissant with Nutella and banana toasted.. Yummy is the word for sure. The coffee was one of the best mum has ever tried in Edinburgh.
I m a regular in Castello Coffee because they make the best Cappuccino i ve tasted in Edinburgh !!!!!
I m not going to write out the trick they do with the chocolate sprinkles but it makes their cappuccinos the best !!!
You just have to experience them for yourself :)
Good price and cute little coffee shop also loyalty is rewarded to enjoy even more "magic cappuccinos" :)))

Being next door to a Costa Coffee, at the Princes Street end of Castle Street, might be a blessing and a curse for Castello. People might fail to notice Castello alongside its noisy neighbour, but just as many might instantly recognise its relative superiority.
I'd headed to Costa for a mid-afternoon you-know-what-you'll-get cup and was utterly delighted to find this place right next to it, a bijou place with a few tables and chairs outside, and a place I'd already heard of as a coffee diamond to boot.
On this particular trip, I had my typical flat white, and this time with a sugar. It is my favourite flat white so far on my Edinburgh travels, so a desultory explanation is in order: I like a lot of smoothness, not too much creaminess, and plenty of richness coming through too. This hit the bullseye.
It's also worth saying that the bakery items - parma ham croissants, pear scones, for example, all looked great.
Farewell, Costa Coffee.
Popped in for a caffeine fix and I wasn't disappointed.. They use Allpress Coffee which is a NZ company (woohoo), the beans are roasted in London and sent up. Their tea comes from a Welsh outfit call Waterloo Tea and offer some interesting options.. I had a ginger & lime rooibos but was also tempted by the blood orange pu erh.
Also tried the coconut bread which was a hearty slice served toasted with a side of butter, the carrot cake looked moist, full of carrot and I'm assured was very tasty.
The two guys in the shop were laid back and friendly, offering a bit of chat without being intrusive. The sandwiches and bagels looked tasty and I look forward to heading back and trying out the soups.
So much better to support local than go to the big chains up the road and I can assure you the coffee is a hundred times better!
We were only in Edinburgh for 48 hours, but Castello's was so good we had to come back twice! Their coffee was delicious and smooth (I tried both the iced coffee and flat white). Their falafel hummus wraps were the perfect breakfast food. We also treated ourselves to carrot cake & chocolate hazelnut cake. The only downside is there's not much seating inside but that doesn't detract from their awesome food & very friendly service.
Great service and friendly staff. Small shop but great coffee and treats. Mint slice is wholeheartedly recommended.
Atmosphere is light and welcoming. Seems to see a steady stream of customers buying take away coffee (clearly have taste).
Tea is loose and full of flavour.
Would return.
Cozy place, great staff. Coffee was perfect and so was the brownie.
This was my favorite cafe on my trip to Scotland! Some of the best soup and coffee I’ve ever had. Loved how small and quaint the shop was. The owner was extremely friendly and my dad and I loved chatting with him! Highly recommend!!
Maybe the "coffee-est" coffee we have tasted in the UK. I know that most people prefer tea, but for us that drink 2 to 3 cups of coffee every day, we were pleasantly surprised. Pure, tasty and with a nice smell and after-taste cappuccinos and espressos. Keep up the good work fellas.
Consistently good, which is something not a lot of places can manage.
I normally pop in for coffee - maybe 3 times per week, and it's always excellent, served with a bit of chat too.
Lunch time - pop in for one of their sandwiches and soup. For a fiver, you'll not buy anything better nearby.
Never mind the Costa and the Starbucks up the road, come in here instead, you won't be disappointed!
Cute place, great location, friendly service, and really good food. We really enjoyed the latte, the cappuccino, the mixed berries smoothie, the falafel wrap, and the vegan sandwich. There was literally nothing to hate on. We would choose this over Starbucks or Costa coffee in a heartbeat!
A lovely, small shop, run by very friendly people. The coffee is outstanding (had a terrific Flat White), and the food we ate was very good --- a coconut bread and a ham-cheese-tomato croissant, both nicely toasted.
If you only have one coffee in Edinburgh, make it a flat white from Castello.
Although this place is tiny, and it's difficult to find a seat (or one that isn't uncomfortably close to the queue), it's my favourite cup of coffee in Edinburgh and getting one to take away always feels like a real treat.
I'd heard several recommendations and can now fully agree with them. The depth of flavour and smoothness is wonderful. When I think of going for coffee, i think of finding somewhere to read, having a nice cup, my caffeine fix, relaxing a bit. When I think about going to Castello, I think about that incredible flavour above all else.
Probably the best flat white I've ever had. So good I had two within 30 minutes.
Great little place just off princes stress, friendly staff and tasty treats!
My server had a great recommendation which I took and loved, it was a chocolate and thyme tart, was really tasty and great with my green tea.
I sat by the window, the only downfall being right next to door since the place is fairly small, but still a great little shop !
Amazing coffee at this independent coffee place in the heart of the city centre.
Great place to grab a break from shopping in the city centre as the cafe is just off princes street. Quite small so not much room for sitting in but takeaway is available and there is a wee sitting area outside if the weather is nice.
The standard of coffee here is amazing.
My 'almost every Friday morning' coffee treat is served up by the friendly guys at Castello. It's one of the best. Small space, so ideal for takeaway. Whether sitting in or taking away, I recommend the cinnamon swirl. Oohhhhh. Yum.
Amazing black coffee .. if you are a coffee fan you have to come here ..
Absolutely love this place! Coffee is just excellent - try a piccolo or a flat white - and I have to agree with +Morgan Cranch: don't forget about the sandwiches and especially the soup. While I'm a big fan of Union of Genius, I think in a perfect world it's better made on site - which is the case in Castello (they keep a little notebook with all the recipes - what I wouldn't do...) Paninis are great and street-side tables and a rare treat in Edinburgh.
Awesome ☕️ !!
I recommend all my business clients and friends to go to Castello Coffee !!
Top team of Edinburgh Baristas & IMO create the best black medicine in Edinburgh.
Dropped by this morning again for another prefect flat white hand crafted by David :) 👍👍
Highly Recommend 😊
Adorable little cafe hidden just off Princes Street. Not much room in the place but if you can hop on a stool, you can watch the world go by.
Amazing coffee, too - which is handy. Reasonably priced and full of awesome people. Definitely a rival to the big chains.
Amazing local coffee place, always with an excellent music selection playing. For coffee aficionados, this place definitely does not disappoint, with high end equipment all around, and good quality beans. Nice selection of sandwiches and pastries available too.
