Very good place
I have been to this restaurant a fair few times over the years for dinner. But having just moved to the area decided to try out the breakfast.
The food and service were as good as my past evening visits.
Price point is fair and the view is second to none.
WITH A HOUSE move looming the opportunity to scout our soon-to-be locals presented itself as we look forward to life by the sea in Newhaven. My good friend, Bat, was a resident here before moving home to his native France, and he often spoke fondly of the Harbour Inn and Old Chain Pier. I think the concept of a regular “after work pint” was lost somewhere in translation, but the stunning views from the Old Chain Pier are something anybody would appreciate.
Charming little restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere and excellent food. On top of that a gorgeous view of the coast! Great spot!
Would really rate a 3.5. The mussels were really tasty. Fish and chips had a large portion and decent taste. Really nice view next to the water but the table was in an awkward position. Service was friendly but mediocre. Menu overall basic but a great location on the water.
Beautiful little place. The views are incredible and the service was excellent. We only stopped by for a drink, we hadn't made any reservations and we told the waiter that we were just popping into the bar for a quick drink because the view looked amazing - he prepared a table for us right next to the window (floor to ceiling) and we spent the next hour just staring in wonder at the sea whilst the sun set, sipping our drinks (my aperol spritz was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced). My videos don't actually do justice to how incredible the view and experience were. Also, the venue has been done so beautifully on the inside - from the outside it doesn't look anything special, but don't let this fool you. It's super cute & 100% worthwhile visiting if you're in the area.
We didn't eat, but I did walk past a guy eating a bowl of mussels in a cream sauce that looked and smelt delicious. Would definitely come here in the future for a meal & drinks.
Best view and ambience. We spent few winter evenings with mulled wine and sea food. It was so relaxing and peaceful. Highly recommend if you want to have a cosy sea view with lovely drinks!
I’ve never expected to have a satisfactory experience with fish and chips. It was such a coincidence that we dropped by this seaside restaurant very randomly. We were able to indulge in the great view thanks to the lady at the entrance who offered us a great spot.
Honestly this was my second time having legitimate fish and chips after Poppie’s in Camden. As my first experience was not bad but not impressive either, I couldn’t find any reasons to try the dish even once again for the last couple of years. But hell yeah, the chef knows how to fry. Both fish fillet and chips were CRISPY and well seasoned. Big portions are a great bonus. The sticky toffee pudding was slightly bland though.
Lovely lunch, our meze and flatbread were absolutely delicious. Setting is nice, right at the waterfront. Service friendly and accommodating.
Their mussels are exceptional - the best I have ever tired in Scotland. The place provides a luxury view with a cozy ambience inside (booking is recommended).
Above all - most importantly, the staffs there were super nice. I have learnt new word, ‘broon source’, which I guess it is a version of brown source. I feel the broon is better the the brown, kind of milder but mellower. It is nicely paring with the chips (maybe it was just my imaginary at that time).
However, the fish & chip was not as crispy as I expected. And there was a very limited menu in the house.

A lovely spot with a spectacular view! We visited just for drinks but then the menu looked great so stayed for some food. We had children with us and they did say when we arrived for a drink children could be there but only until 8. We thought that was due to drinks only and children not being able to be effectively in a pub but seems it was the same even if we were eating which is strange. I understand it's not a soft play but if you're eating and spending I did feel there was little tolerance past the timeframe which is a shame.
Lovely cozy restaurant, fish and chips is really tasty, good service
Excellent views.
The mussels were awesome, mussels are altered depending on the day but they are fresh.
We had the seafood basket as well. If you like fried prawns, calamari and scampi then this dish is for you.
The tuna steak had little but of a fish smell but the other dishes were good.
Very vegan friendly.
Hello, this place is very pleasant with a nice view, although the color of the sea leaves a lot to be desired 🤭 as for the food, I can certainly recommend it because I know the chefs and I know what they can do and what passion they put into their experience and the pleasure of surprising the customer. I ate it many times and each time it tasted just as good or even better. The staff takes a professional approach to work, but sometimes there is no smile, but I am able to understand and explain it based on the weather outside. The new menu looks tasty and interesting, so I can confidently recommend it. Regards, Chef "Ma Ma Ma Baker" 🔊📳🎶
Very nice place with a great view of the sea. Food very tasty and welcoming ambience.
It was a really great place for a relaxing moment. Very good food, music 🎶 and amazing staff member (some of them speak French 👌). Gluten-free food available. The view is fantastic
Location is stunning, staff are helpful and friendly just the food lets it down slightly. I ordered the Baked Camembert which was barely baked with most of it still solid cheese and not this lovely gooey round of cheese. Sourdough was nice. Soup did look good.
I had a awesome time with my family. it was my first time to visit to Edinburgh, and I had a great time with the old chain pier. They were so kind and the foods were great! especially, I recommend the larger bowl of mussels with pint beer! :)
We booked a table for lunch. The staff were so welcoming. The atmosphere was great and what a lovely view. We had a tasty fish and chips, and the cherry cheesecake was fantastic. We definitely come back.
I had a low expectations before visiting and was surprised. The food was okay and little expensive but the view was worthy.
Firstly I would like to thank the waitress, whose name I don't know, for her warmth and kindness which made both the meal and the restaurant more welcoming. Secondly, the mussels were the freshest and best I've had in months and worth trying for everyone. Lastly, even on a cloudy day, the view of the beach was still a keeper.
