Hidden Gem

Stumbled across here seeking warmth from the crazy rain and wind. Its a really nice Scottish traditional pub with a large array of drinks on offer, reasonably priced. We decided to eat here and was not disappointed; had the fish and chips and salmon with dauphoinois potatoes - absolutely delicious! Highly recommend eating here when in Edinburgh!

First night in Edinburgh and as any tourist would do, needed to get in to Haggis, was recommended the Abbotsford by a local and it didn't disappoint, I'm more unsure why everyone seems so scared to try it, it's fantastic and a great first experience !!

Can't recommend this place enough. Just happened to find it near my hotel and ended up eating one of the best meals I'd had on my entire trip. Joseph was an amazing server and made some great beer and whisky suggestions. Loved it enough to come back again another evening!

Just the best way to end your day after a long walk in the city. Service was fast and the food was good! i also liked that they had the small portions (wee)

You don't often find nice, authentic and affordable pubs, especially not in Edinburgh City centre! The Abbotsford was an amazing find, and while I doubt it's a hidden gem being on Rose Street, it definitely is a gem! Beautiful setting with a bit of old world charm but modern food, drinks and importantly, service. The whisky selection was amazing, great variety, and very reasonable prices. Plus they serve Raasay whisky so that's a massive tick in the win column for me! We decided on a light bite and shared a few sharing plates. The food was really tasty and we were impressed with the quality. Overall a highly recommended, fun, unpretentious, touch of old school cool in Edinburgh City centre. We shall return!

Food was good, but the staff was excellent. Joe should teach waiters & waitresses everywhere how to give world class customer service. There’s a level of enthusiasm that I’ve rarely seen. He shows a level of confidence that he knows the menu well enough that his recommendations are good. Also, he doesn’t seem to care when you ask for a recommendation, which is great! If we stayed in town longer, we would come back because of this.

Super friendly, busy and lovely interiors greet you for a local pub experience with the best steak and ale pie with the flakiest delicious pie topper! Highly recommend for an Edinburgh visit. Great location.

I had a word with the young lady running this atmospheric establishment regarding our dog accompanying us and all was good. The Happy Chappy IPA was on good form as was the Sauvignon blanc. We ordered a steak and ale pie and a gammon and eggs, both were good, in particular the lean steak, just right portion wise. There were numerous diners here this Monday lunchtime and the most popular dish appeared to be the fish and chips. There is also an additional dining room upstairs. The service was impeccable throughout.

I think that, at one point during my short trip in Edinburgh, I tried to find the place that could serve me the best vegetarian haggis. And this one could be the one. I ate in the restaurant upstairs and the servers were all very nice and the atmosphere very warm! Can't wait to come back!!

Great range of real ales, and most were still on even on a Sunday where many pubs struggle. I only had two pints; both were pretty good. On a previous visit I had a pint of landlord, which was also top quality.
