Great food, great staff. The place is very cozy and we choose it due to the fact that it was near to our home and we wanted to have some Asian food. It is amazing and the price we pay (given the price that we pay for meals in Edinburgh) is very fair. Plenty of food and some nice mint chocolate at the end with the bill. We really enjoyed it.
Great Thai in Edinburgh
We arrived in Edinburgh and wanted something light after a long train ride from London. This place was close to our hotel so we stopped in. Service was excellent as was the food. We each had the tom kha gai (American bastardization of actual name) which was flavorful and the chicken was so tender and delicious. We shared the panang curry as we were no longer very hungry - it would have been the perfect portion for one. We added a jasmine rice which was perfectly cooked. Wine was good and all prices were reasonable. They don’t add the service charge like in London so you have to remember to tip. Lucked into a great find with this one.
Amazing Thai Food. Very good service. Although the place can be a little crowded and can make you feel quite cramped up but the food just made it up to it. The Thai Red and Green curry especially have made it worth while. Absolutely fantastic.
This place is tucked away right in the heart of theold town (tourist district) behind the castle but a step away from the hustle bustle. The place is run by a group of ladies (one family I think) including the bar, servicex and kitchen. This place serves only Thai food and the food is mouthwatering abd top notch quality. The portion size is adequate, service is quick and the staff is very friendly and helpful. My advice, try Gaeng Pa Pak, Seua Rong Hai Tiger Cry and Prawns Preiw Wan from food menu. You can wash it down with Thai Cold tea or Singha (Thai beer)
Really delicious and accommodating in terms of allergies, spice preferences and tastes :) plus lovely, friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere!
On the quest for the best Thai in Edinburgh, we continued with a trip to thai orchid. The menu looked a lot more varied than others, and it's in a great spot just behind the castle. I opted for the prawns wrapped in an egg parcel, which was light and full of flavour. It came with a delicious sweet chilli dip. Then I had the monkfish red curry. The curry itself was delicious and not too hot. As there was 4 of us, we got rice to share and the portion we got was more than enough, I managed seconds to soak up more of that tasty sauce! One thing to note-they mark the heat of dishes on the menu...trust the chilli gauge! My boyfriend didn't and ended up regretting his choices as it all got a bit much for him...bless.
I love thai food. Can't get enough. So any chance to try a new one I am more than keen.
I love that this is a proper family-run, Thai. The food is wonderfully authentic and the staff are lovely.
I started with chicken satay, one of my favourite dishes. This was MUCH better than your typical Chinese take-away- the chicken was deliciously chargrilled and the sauce was wonderfully fresh.
I went for a panang, which was AMAZING. Usually I can't stand fruit in a savoury dish, but the peaches in the curry were delightful.
This is quite a small place so if you are planning to go at the weekend book ahead. This is definitely worth a visit if you're near the royal mile.
I found this restaurant through Zomato & so glad that I did! I booked a table for 5pm for 3 and was running late so I let them know, both times they were really friendly!
The outside of the restaurant was really lovely and inside is even better. The restaurant was decorated with traditional Thai pieces. We ordered drinks, I got a Thai iced tea which was lovely. The starter we got was yummy and was very well presented! The dips for the starter food were really delicious too!
For my main I got a green Thai curry and sticky rice. It was fantastic! The portion size was spot on & was beautiful. The sticky rice was very good. I was getting full but kept eating because it tasted amazing!
I would highly recommend this restaurant! The waiters were really lovely and attentive throughout. The food was devine!
In total the bill came to £69 which was okay between 3 people with the amount of food we got & how it tasted! I will definitely be returning soon!!
Food is excellent. Everything is excellent except for the attitude of the staff. Not so welcome.
Excellent Value with Tasty food. A restaurant with a very switched on owner with a great customer attitude.
I started with TODD MUN KAO PODE, deep fried sweet corn cakes. Normally served with a sweet and sour peanut dip, which they amended to a chilli dip for me. They were lovely and light and not at all greasy.
My friend Fraser had the PEEK GAI TODD, Spicy Thai style chicken wings which he enjoyed.
For mains, I had KOW PAD KIEW WAN GAI, fried rice with chicken, vegetables and green curry. This was spicy without being too hot. Fraser went for MOO PAD KING, pork stir fried with ginger and mixed vegetables. Apart from the onions that he doesn't like unless well done, it was wolfed down.
For afters, we had a pot of Green Tea. We could have had coffee or Ice Cream.
The portion sizes were lovely for lunch. I also appreciated that they peeled the cucumber that came with the main course. I wish more restaurants would take the trouble.
I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, and look forward to going back one evening and try the full menu.
The bill for the 2 of us was £15.90 as we had no extra drinks.
The restaurant is on twitter (@ThaiOrchid_) and on Facebook. After viewing their menu online, I used twitter to discuss alternatives as I have a mild peanut allergy. They responded very quickly, which resulted in me booking a table. I am glad I did
What can I say? Best Thai food I have had in Edinburgh since forever. The chicken Massuman curry was exceptional. Normally go to Dusit or Celadon which are also amazing but for now this is my new favourite.
Pukka food, really good quality Tha, go for the "business lunch", great value @ 3 courses for under £8!
On my way back to Newcastle, just before boarding train I decided to taste some non-european food and incidentally I was standing before this Thai restaurant. I was greeted with a broad smile by the host as I entered the restaurant. The place was nicely done and surprisingly almost full. Mostly non-asian people were enjoying the food. I started with mixed rice which was served inside pineapple shell. It was really really tasty. I could not resist myself from ordering another dish. This time it was noodles. But I found it little oily. But overall the restaurant is really nice and I might visit them again whenever I am in Edinburgh.
Excellent service and delicious food. Best Thai I've had in a while. I had Pad Thai and my hubby had curry. Mixed appetizers for starter and lemon Thai iced tea to drink.
We came in here on a cold rainy day longing for some soup. The restaurant is located close to the Edinburgh Castle and the service was good.
We had the Tom Yum Soup, Chicken Satay and Penang Chicken. The food came out great.
Food tasted bit sweet. Still fresh and legit Thai food served by friendly staffs.
While this place is crowded and hot, (in July anyway) we had a nice meal. Pricy for the portion sizes, we thought. But it was really good.
Although the tables and elements of the decor aren't the most stylish, don't be fooled. There is a great ambience; paired with exotic and authentic, yet tasty dishes. The staff are helpful. Would recommend the vegetable tempura starter. If you are around, would definitely recommend.

Excellent thai restaurant. tasty and spicy and they should be. "be careful thai food is spicy"
Yummy food and very good service
Especially sticky rice with sweet mango 🥭
Great Thai food, especially the dessert.
Delicious authentic thai. Maybe the whiskey's helped but definitely worth having a meal here after the scotch / whiskey tasting tour
Service was very nice and quick. The food was also very good
Lunchtime on a cold Sunday. There were few other customers but the welcome was warm. Extra sophisticated, non-smelly heaters were in place and the waitresses were attentive. The food was tasty but possibly it was a mistake, with my appetite, to have gone for the Business lunch as I found the portions small. I chose the mango with sticky coconut rice as a filling dessert and was not disappointed. I've been before and I'd certainly go back.
I'm not a huge fan of Thai cuisine, but this place is often mentioned as being the best Thai restaurant in Edinburgh and I wasn't disappointed.
The Decor inside was tasteful and felt suitably Asian and modern at the same time. We didn't have to wait too long to order. Despite being busy (It appeared packed on the Friday we visited) the waiters/waitresses were attentive. The menu was extensive, with lots for everyone from seafood aficionado's to Vegetarians alike. I had a spicy Beef curry, whilst my partner had a Green curry. The food was ready surprisingly fast and was deliciously filling - the beef was tender and the vegetables extremely tasty alongside some sticky rice. We then finished this off with some Ice Cream to cool the pallet - The mango flavour was especially lovely.
If you love Thai cuisine it's definitely worth a visit (and only a stones throw from the castle at the top of the Royal mile so perfect for hungry tourists - though you may need to book). Even if you aren't a huge Thai fan the food is delicious and definitely worth it if you fancy a change from the norm. Great!
Very nice indeed. The food is fantastic, the service equally good and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Although you are allocated a table for two hours, it should not take that long as the service is speedy and efficient. I would definitely recommend making reservations as I saw plenty of groups being turned away due to a lack of tables.
Lovely little restaurant serving authentic thai food. Must try the vegetarian main curry. Even though it says high spicy, if u ask they can make it mild spicy. Loved the taste! Would love to come here again.
