perfect

we've visited for dinner & lunch both could not be faulted - atmosphere excellent, service likewise, food spot on. The lunch menu in particular is amazing value with lots of choice. You can book a table online which makes the process very easy.

I can honestly not find fault with this place, superb

Really cosy restaurant, really nice food. Do not order the posh mac&cheese if you are hungry.... the tagine was amazing. Not too expensive. Would definitely like to go back

We had lunch for two with only 25£. We shared a starter and then each one of us had the vegetarian tagliatelle. Then we had the lime tart desert. Everything was really nice and the service was amazing. The place is really lovely. We would recommend this place to everyone.

We eschewed the Grassmarket as it was very crowded and continued our walk round the corner and upwards since we were en route for St Giles, when Maison Bleue caught our eye advertising a two-course lunch for £14.50, which seemed good value for the elegant place it was. Indeed, we found ourselves in a palace of glass and napery- strangely the only diners at 1pm on a working Wednesday. There were plenty of tourists passing the windows carrying silver foil packages from the hog roast a few doors away, but none taking advantage of the lovely interior and delicious food. The waiter was friendly and brought us iced water, bread and a superbly flavoured olive oil dip. We chose one soup and one haggis balls (battered and deep fried and served with a neeps and tatties sauce), then went on to one chicken tagine and one pan-fried sea bass. A glass of red wine and a coffee completed our meal and the bill was under £50. Exceptional. The toilets are a bit of a hike up to the top of the building but that's not a big problem.

Earlier in the year I went to the relaunch of Maison Bleue and wrote a mini review. Five months later, I have finally had time to go back and try the bedouin feast they offer and write a proper, full review. The feast must be booked at least 24 hours in advance as the meat is slow cooked. We were welcomed by friendly staff and offered a seat whilst we waited for our table to be prepared (as we had arrived a little early). We were offered drinks and a short while later we were taken to our table, on the first floor of the restaurant. The restaurant still had a great feel about it, even without the PR buzz. Our table looked out onto Victoria Street, which was a nice bonus. We were offered the choice of ordering additional starters but we decided just to wait for the feast to arrive. Luckily the staff did say the feast was large. Bread and dipping oil was placed on the table for us to eat whilst we waited.

If you are after an eclectic take on French cuisine, try Maison Bleu. Edinburgh has some fantastic French restaurants so each has to have that something special in order to stand out. Here, it is location, decor and must importantly a delicious fusion with Moroccan cuisine. My fish with puy lentils was hearty ( unlike your average fish dish) and had a lovely depth of flavour. My husband's lamb dish was very very rich and a tad too salty. So rich that he struggled to finish it despite if being very tasty. We gave some feedback to the waitress but given it was so busy, we were just told that it was noted but not really offered an apology or an offer of something else. Not a biggie tbh. It was a good meal and we had a pleasant evening!

Beautiful interior and nice food. I had lunch here and the lunch menu is good and VERY reasonable priced. It wasn't the best lunch I had but for the price was ok. The restaurant became pretty busy and staff didn't seem coping too well so if you're in hurry I wouldn't recommend it. However maybe was a one off.

Delicious food and friendly staff! Great atmosphere and music. Only downside I could think of was that the toilets weren't the best and were too close to the kitchen but you don't go to a restaurant for that, do you!!

Excellent value two course lunch (and the £15 student dinner on Tuesdays might bring me back) with tasty north African hints adding some sophistication to classic French dishes. Attentive service, but awful piped music spoilt the atmosphere.

I have been longing to try this restaurant for some time, and I must admit the appeal of it's bluewashed walls and twinkly interior has somewhat overshadowed the lure of it's French-African fusion food. When it finally transpired that a good friend of mine now works there, it made the prospect all the more joyful.

My first visit was late one evening, which is unusual for me as I normally dine earlier, at lunch or in the early evening. But the scene was perfectly set: beautiful candles adorned the characterful space, with couples and friends murmuring in the twilight. Part of the reason for my dining preferences are cost, as evening is usually the most expensive time to dine. For this reason, my dinner date and I only opted for a main each. He the braised ox cheek and crispy duck for me. Both dishes were sublime and surpassed my expectations, so I knew I had to come back and do a blog.

S.O. and I happened across it on an afternoon, following a dreadfully tedious shopping trip. We were about ready to conk out, but were determined to get a fancy lunch in first. The restaurant appears much different during the day. It's brighter, with the windows thrust open we received the glorious day (unusual - I wonder how it fairs on a rainy day?). S.O. agreed the interiors were wonderful, and that both of our parents' would really appreciate it. There is no better testament to a tasteful interior.

For our starters, I chose the goats cheese croquettes, and s.o. went for a reinvention of haggis, neeps and tatties. We were shortly served drinks and bread with oil and vinegar, by the impeccably attired waiters, who immediately struck up a good rapport with us. Our starters arrived looking scrumptious. Since moving to Scotland, I have inherited that special quality of loving everything battered, crumbed, or deep fried. Today was no different, and both courses were quite delightful, if a bit on the heavy side.

Given the carb loaded start to our meal, s.o. and I agreed we were borderline full when our mains arrived. He opted for the steak and chips and I the moules frites. (N.B. as you will see in upcoming posts I've become very partial to these delightful little molluscs). His steak was good, but well over the medium rare he asked for.

The accompanying potato cubes and salad were generous, and in my mind that's the perfect homely supper.

My mussels were superb. They were big, juicy, and obviously freshly caught. The cream and white wine sauce was very nice, and you could see the ingredients that had gone into it's making. For some reason, I really appreciate knowing and seeing what I'm eating, it's almost a demystification of the cooking process which is quite neat. My chips were also good, although fairly neglected as I was fit to burst by the end!

All in all, a very good meal. I enjoyed both occasions I ate there, and I would highly recommend it for either lunch or dinner. In particular, if you have friends or family visiting Edinburgh, as it is very central, reasonably priced (for the value it's outstanding), and full with character.

Very good food, we went when it was super busy but still got a table for us and the toddlers. Not super baby friendly but thankfully the kids weren't in a running around mood. Service was great, drinks and food good!

Quaint little restaurant with lot’s of charm in ‘diagon Alley’ (aka Victoria St) food has lots of influence from French, Scottish, Vietnamese and North African, emphasis being on French. Quality and execution just manages to get there with great calamari dish, haggis balls and a very tasty bouillabaisse- fish of the day accompaniments was below par. Service was fast and cheerful. An above the average quality for a picpoul and other tempting wine offerings. Recommended

Had a lovely experience here visiting with work colleagues tonight! Both the server and the manager provided amazing customer service, and prepared customised cocktails for the party based on our individual preferences! I was very hesitant to leave for my train and wanted to stay for another few more drinks so I booked in for another time! Great staff, lovely decor, and perfect atmosphere / sound level to talk in a large group 😁 had a delicious assortment of espresso martinis in different flavours. Very accommodating and friendly staff and delicious drinks! Thank you for a lovely night

Pleasant evening. Several things not on the menu on a Wednesday night. Tables were free at 8.30 and no walk ins were turned away- NONE. Having said that, the food was cooked to a decent standard and service was included at 10%. When the cheese board ran out of oat cakes, they were replenished and in good spirit. So I would definitely return.

I had an excellent dinner at Maison Bleue tonight. Not only great food and very friendly service, but they inprovised admirably when I wanted a “whisky flight” instead of a dessert, something they normally don’t do. And last but not least: the woman recommended another establishment nearby that would be better at that than they are. I think that is a sign of honest business.

Highly recommended. Food and service were outstanding. Ordered mussels, steak, fish of the day, and gumbo; all were excellent. Desserts were delicious. Service was on point. Staff were friendly and very helpful, and making reservations (via Google) was a breez. Conveniently located near Edinburgh Castle, so this is a great place to have dinner after touring the castle.

Lovely little Restaurant, which serves Dinner after every Pub has closed the kitchen. So we tried Harries, the Beef and the Surprising Onion Rings AND the French Martini. Everything was delicious!!

Walking BBC around Edinburgh and came across this place. Nice seating area outside (great location for people watching). The service was nice. Not rushed at all. The food was gorgeous. I had Mussels which were so good. My Wife had Goats Cheese and caramelised onion, again gorgeous. The mains were delicious too. Will absolutely be back

Liked the place but the food wasn't up to a 5* standard. That might be because they were also handling a large party, but there it is. One of the mains arrived barely luke-warm. Mine arrived hot, but it was not as good as I had expected it to be. "Your mileage may vary! "

Fantastic! We stayed around the corner and went out exploring. Seeing this menu from the street, it looked amazing. We waited a little bit before we got a table, having a drink while waiting. Once we got seated, we were treated to an amazing dinner! The Ox cheeks were out of this world! Great wine selections and fantastic apps. The atmosphere was excellent, and the artwork, lighting, and music were pleasant. Thank you for a fantastic meal and for providing a great experience!

This was a lovely restaurant to dine in at, with a glorious design including the decorations, lights and walls! The lady serving was super friendly and I enjoyed Moules a La Bretonne (Muscles with bread) accompanied by a refreshing drink of Peach Cooler, preceded by a free jug with glass of water. I ordered extra bread to clean out the sauce for just £1 and had been checked in quickly, presented with a menu straight away. The table was beautiful with the additions of a candle and a plant, seating was comfortable and cleanliness had been maintained!

Even though I thought it would be very French, it wasn't actually that French, but the food was very tasty none the less, I had the carrot and coconut soup starter and the venison for main which was cooked to perfection. I also have to say that the only 2 servers there worked tirelessly over the whole 2 floors, forever helpful and never exasperated by all the work yet to be done ✔️. Bravo 👏

This was our 2nd visit, we visited Edinburgh before covid and visited Maison Bleue for dinner, which was memorable. Today we returned for an idyllic lunch, with a very friendly waitress who made us feel very welcome and looked after. The food was amazing and the atmosphere is very cosy. Thank you.

This restaurant was recommended by one of the local guides and I was happy I took the advice. He mentioned about the lunch deal. I arrived just 5 minutes before the deal ended (630pm) so they were happy to quickly take my order so I can take advantage of the promo. I took steak fries (which was a little tricky because you add 4£ on top of the promo price, please take note of this). I enjoyed the food. The surprise calamari was as described: crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, the minute steak was good and the Aperol spritz a little watered down. The cheesecake was really good. Overall experience was great with a fantastic al fresco location and I was very well attended to.
