I can’t recommend this place enough.

I enjoy it every time I come, sometimes the service can be a little off. But the food is always perfection.

I really love their salad bar, their smoothie bowls and quite honestly all their dishes. It is always super tasty.

This time round our service wasn’t that great. The waitress didn’t seem to really be listening when she took our orders, we had to repeat ourselves a few times and I wouldn’t say we have bad diction.

The orange juice was the first drink to arrive the other two came 10 minutes later... I would kind of expect drinks to come all together.

We ordered both smoothie bowls (Acai and peanut butter) both enjoyed!
We also ordered the salads from the salad bar. They were fresh and come with a slice of bread, dips and olives. For the salad I got a side of two poached eggs (which didn’t run, quite disappointing I like a runny poachie!) and mushrooms. Well two mushrooms. That portion size needs to be improved.

All in all we always enjoy it, there are just some minor things every time.

Best breakfast in a long time

Simply fantastic. Great menu - even if you don’t like sour dough. The granola is off the charts good. I wish they published a recipe book of their entire menu - it’s that good!

Great little spot. My fresh juice and coffee were delightful. The service was warm and friendly. It does get busy but I was fortunate enough to snag a table.

After an early morning flight we were in need of a good coffee and a hearty breakfast and this place gave us both of those.

The coffee was lovely and had very pleasant flavour that went down very well.

The Harissa beans on toast came with a perfectly poached egg and had great flavour from the herbs and spices used. The bread was also toasted well enough it was still toasted but so it was still easy enough to cut. There is nothing worse than rock hard cafe toast that sends the toppings flying when you try and cut into it !
The porridge was everything you would hope from a porridge being nicely flavoured by the nuts, bananas, berries and honey that were added as toppings, as well as being warming (which was much needed on this cold and wet morning) and the oats themselves still had some integrity so it wasn't like eating complete mush.

While the staff were very friendly, no one seemed to be in any particular rush to give out the bill or collect it afterwards, which was not a problem for us because we ourselves were in no hurry but at times it came across slightly as if you had been forgotten.

Overall though, really good food and quality coffee and would definitely return or recommended to anyone looking for a place to eat breakfast or lunch in the city centre.

My undying love for Edinburgh aside, Urban Angel has the stuff that healthy dreams are made of. You chew and gulp but feel no guilt because it's yummy and nutri-packed. I ate the avocados on toast and tried a super delicious juice of the day with cucumber and Kale and whatnot... Glorious! Must go

Urban Angel is right up my street when it comes to cuisine. Their wide variety of healthy meals combined with their all day brunch menu instantly caught my attention. After much deliberation, I opted for the avocado and ricotta on grilled granary with lime mint and broad beans. Risotto, butternut squash and beetroot salad and fish with leek and ginger rice were among the other meals ordered at my table. The food was absolutely delicious and I can't wait to work my way through the menu in the months to come. The desserts were equally delicious; we ordered a slice of carrot cake and an aubergine chocolate slice (sounds strange but tastes incredible) to share. The waitresses were really personable and pleasant and the food didn't take too long to be served. The prices are quite high but entirely justified by the taste and quality of the food, so if you're on a budget, make it a special treat! I always appreciate when restaurants/cafes have great meal options for gluten free or vegan eaters and Urban Angel definitely surpassed many other places I've been to. I highly suggest you give this place a try, whether you're gluten intolerant, vegan or just enjoy great food!

I love the weekends. It’s time to spend with friends and family, eating, drinking, laughing and relaxing. On Saturday I met up with a good friend of mine at Urban Angel. I pass this unsuspecting eatery every day on my way to work. Last week I had a look at their website and my taste buds started jumping.

I met up with a good friend of mine at Urban Angel on a Saturday morning. I pass this unsuspecting eatery every day on my way to work. A couple of days prior to my visit, I took a look at their website and my taste buds started jumping. On entering into the restaurant all you see is a counter and a window seat, but they have a delightful seating area down some stairs and through the back. The décor is lovely, joyful and cheery. My friend had the Toast with Ricotta, Avocado and Broad Beans whilst I opted for something more sinful, the French Toast with bacon and syrup. Both our meals where delicious. Our waiter was very friendly, helpful and had a wee bit of cheeky banter which is always welcome. The thing that impressed me the most was the tea. I’m just a regular Breakfast Tea kinda gal, but it’s the teapots that made my day. They worked as a teapot should; no spilling and spluttering trying to pour it out, no large puddle left on the table with only half of it in your teacup. It was a sheer delight. The beautiful golden amber liquid flowed out the spout perfectly and into my teacup.I liked this place. I like this place a lot. I will definitely be back.

I feel like ive eaten fresh on a farm! Heavenly food, all day brunch and I especially recommend the avocado toast with portobello mushrooms... To die for!

The only thing i would like to see more of is a variety on the menu.

Food is excellent with a great balance between healthy, wholesome yet delicious however don't bother trying for brunch during the weekend - no bookings so it gets crazy busy!

EDIT: Upon a second visit to UA I have amended my rating. Whilst brunch here remains a firm favourite, their lunch offerings left me disappointed with their poor value for money. While producer-led organic produce is understandably pricier, there is no excuse for paltry portion sizes (12.50 for a fillet of salmon and raw courgette, really?)

Angel Delight. Tucked away at the bottom of Hanover street is this lovely basement coffee shop. The counter is bright and spacious and the choice of food is fresh and homemade. There are 2 dining areas off to the right and considering their location, are spacious and bright. The original flooring and bakery oven are quite superb and these rooms have a lovely ambience. Not the cheapest but still good value and well worth a visit.

Good Eggs!. We love coming here for brunch. My husband thinks they have the best scrambled eggs ever--served up nicely next to some American (streaky) bacon! He also believes they have the best lattes in town. I think just about everything they serve is delicious--and usually healthy too (besides the bacon!).

AMAZING. As I said before, I can’t believe I’d never tried it before! I put it down to sleeping through until lunch time. I’m not a morning person so breakfast is normally slept through and I literally make no effort to make or eat it. If I am aware of this being available to me I WILL wake up! I’ll even set an alarm.

I have a rare treat for a chef: I have somehow managed to get Sundays off! This is the only day in our week when me and Mr Lovable are both off together so we try our best to make the most of it. What's a better way to start a fabulous day off than sleep late, then walk to town in cold, crisp, sunny weather and have brunch? This time, we chose to go to Urban Angel on Hanover Street. Eggs Benedict with spinach and some black pudding and smoked salmon on the side. Eh, I couldn't really decide what I fancied... what I got was a lovely mixture of salty flavours, homemade Hollandaise and a good start for the day. If I ever see a cupcake I have to have a cupcake, there's no way around it. They have another place as well, just off Broughton street and they are both open from 9 am till late. Both perfect spots for quick, light bite of seasonal food. Can't argue with that! always busy good for brunch daily specials 121 Hanover Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1DJ - 0131 225 6215

According to urban myth (well, my mum, dad and a few select witnesses), the young Miss Appetit was a chatty little tyke, and even sang along to 'Happy Birthday' on her 1st Birthday. There's also photographic evidence of me clutching a bottle of Labbatt Blue , but we won't go into that just now. Fast-forward a few years, and I've just marked the birthday that takes me halfway to 68, so the celebrations have taken on their usual edible form. Cutting down a bit on the drinkables though, as December was a bit of a 'sesh'. Last year's venue was Amore Dogs (post here ) and I guess I wasn't particularly original in choosing the location for this year's lunch, as I arranged to meet one of my best buds Emily for lunch at Urban Angel, on the opposite side of Hanover Street. I've not been in for a year or so, but word of mouth for this café & bistro continues to be positive since it opened in 2008. Their selling point is fresh, locally sourced ingredients, all prepared onsite, so for example the

We dropped in here for breakfast as we've had lunch a few times. Urban angel always does a great menu with some unusual twists, and accommodates my vegetarian needs.
However, I'm always a little underwhelmed by the disinterested service from the staff. If you're after great food this is a brilliant place to drop into- however, if you're after a guaranteed warm welcome, it's a bit of a gamble

Anywhere that serves all day brunch gets a thumbs up from me. I love brunch, but I'm not so great at getting up before midday.

I tend to have the French toast with bacon and maple syrup, the portions have always been great. Coffee, juices and smoothies all top notch as well.

Service is usually friendly and laid back. They do get busy and don't take bookings as far as I know, so be prepared to wait a bit on the weekends.

It's difficult to classify the food at Urbal Angel, other than 'good'; it subscribes to no particular style, genre or tradition, perhaps this is what British Food should be in the present day?The space is delightful, the staff friendly and helpful. I've been in with a range of different people who are difficult to feed in a variety of ways and yet there's always been something tasty and filling to suit all palates, and while it's not supercheap, it's far from pricey. On one memorable occasion, after a city centre trek to find some GF cake, we ended up here and had pieces of brownie so rich that we felt like we'd had a full meal. Total win.

Great modern decor with lots of light and wooden furniture. Staff are always very friendly and happy to give you a recommendation from the menu.

Best thing about Urban Angel is that the brunch is served until 5pm so no matter how long you sleep you can still get a lovely brunch. If you are in the mood for being healthy try the raw chocolate smoothie or if you are after something a bit more tasty try eggs Benedict and smoke salmon. For lunch they have lots of very healthy options but my favourite is the burger with the mushrooms and handmade chips. Everything is priced very reasonably and the staff always leave you as long as you need so it’s a great place to meet a friend to catch up.

Visited Urban Angel for a Monday lunch. Really quick service - I had the eggs Benedict with smoked haddock which was gorgeous and my friend had avocado and tomatoes on toast both good portions and really tasty ! Water is served on the table and they serve a great selection of hot drinks and juices !
Had a good visit left with a cappuccino and my friend had a green machine
Juice !
Total bill was £26 thought that was reasonable :)

Good, fresh, healthy food.  Amazing brunch options, including probably one of the best french toasts in town.  Sandwiches are made with fresh crusty baguettes, cakes and scones are varied and freshly baked, and smoothies and juices are of exciting flavors as well.

The urban angel cafe serves humble classic dishes in an innovative modern style. The presentation is simply beautiful. I loved their breakfast bowls. It’s dog friendly, with lots of pups around and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s everything you want in a cafe. The service is excellent, with friendly and helpful staff. I will definitely be back for more.

This is a brunch spot that you must visit while in Edinburgh. The restaurant feels cosy and welcoming, almost like a home. The food is delicious! We had the egg benny with spinach and mushrooms along with zaatar scrambled egg on toast. They were soo good! My partner had a raw chocolate smoothie which was great. Highly recommend going here if you have time for brunch.

My wife and I went here for lunch the other week. We didn’t have a booking and it was busy so the gent said that we could get a table if we come back at 13:30. When we came back at 13:30 the guy said that we were lucky because he was about to give the table to someone else because he had us booked in for 13:15. So obviously an error on his part but we all make mistakes. Although, I don’t think he owned up to it. Anyway the staff were very friendly. There is a good selection on the menu. My wife and I got a couple of smoothies which were ok although I had to get our own straws. My green smoothie wasn’t as enjoyable as my wife’s. For food my wife got the soup and focaccia which she really enjoyed. It was surprisingly filling. I got the carrot and kale salad as well as a toastie (can’t remember the filling). Both of these were lovely. The sweet chilli sauce that came with the toastie was tasty. I would say it was a little on the expensive side but I suppose it is city centre so what do you expect? I cafe itself is a lot bigger than you would expect from looking from the outside. I love the relaxed vibe of the place.

I stayed in Edinburgh for a week and couldn't find a brunch spot to beat Urban Angel. Went here twice and both times there was absolutely sensational food and drink with a cosy vibe. The french toast and fresh juices are especially incredible 😍

This is the place to brunch! This is not boujee brunch, but a lovely place to congregate with friends or family for a laid back Saturday morning. Atmosphere: Loved the hippie dippy vibe. Again very casual and laid back. It's the place I'd want to go if it was a rainy, chilly Saturday morning. Food: Nothing about this food is fancy by any means, but this is a great place for porridge, hummus toast, or eggs. Again, very cozy and chill. The porridge with the crumble on top is the best way to go in my opinion. It was so good that 2 other people dining with me ordered it as well. We also did an order of the hummus toast with za'atar, pickled shallots, chickpeas, and parsley. It was the most basic food, but so comforting and each bite was delicious. Reservations: Make one! If you don't you will be so upset that the wait is longggg. The reviews are no joke, this place is totally worth every star! If you live in Edinburgh or are just visiting this place is a must!

Cute little place off the main strip. Nice variety and large portions. Lacked silverware at the table, but easily remedied. Tried two different kinds of French toast. Lite on the toast, heavy on the Toppings.

The BEST eggs Benedict I've ever had. It was quite busy when we arrived around 9:30-10am but luckily, we were happy to sit outside. Eggs Benedict with haggis was truly one of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The lemongrass and ginger tea really hit the spot too. Definitely go but maybe arrive earlier than you think you should.

By far the best breakfast spot and food that I had in Edinburgh. From coffee to their meals - especially the bacon. What I don’t like is food was serve a little bit late but over-all it was worth it. You have to go there before 10 in the morning or else you’ll find yourselves lining up outside.
