Great Italian
Wonderful food, served by very friendly and efficient staff, set within a subtle and comfortable interior. Cannot fault Amarone on any level.
The restaurant has a great decor and ambiance, food is good, I tried the mushroom flatbread which was delicious, but the margarita seemed rushed and average. The staff seemed to forget a couple of orders and had to be reminded but they noticed and gave us 10% off because of it, overall it was a good experience.
Very nice and affordable Italian restaurant. In terms of apperizers, the inslata Caprese was fresh but needed some extra dressing, the Crostini misti is average. I loved the main course and the dessert. Their tagliolini con chorizo is delicious and the Tiramissu couldn't be better.
We had dinner here last night and it was great, the food taste delicious and service was excellent, the butler with awesome moustache served us and he was very friendly and funny. The resto was packed and people seems to enjoy their food and the environment. Overall very happy with our dinner :)
This is a very nice restaurant. The food (we all ate pizzas) was very tasty, but also the service was wonderful! I would definitely recommend!
Very nice Italian food and very polite and patient waitress. Took our orders with great patience and got it all right. Everything that came were absolutely fantastic. Venue was quite the classy one as well. I can't complain about this restaurant. 👍👍👍
With a late night return flight scheduled to the ‘Land of Song’, it seemed a little rude not to squeeze in one more of Edinburgh’s culinary delights! Dining slightly earlier than usual and (supposedly*) with plenty of time on our hands, a last minute reservation request ensured we secured a table at a restaurant which had come highly recommended.

Amarone in Edinburgh has a great deal to like about it. It is part of the Di Maggio family owned restaurant group that you find across Scotland, but instead of the eponymous restaurants Italian-American offerings, Amarone is Italian all the way. A contemporary Milanese Ristorante and Pizzeria is how Amarone is branded and that's not a bad description. The conversion of an old banking hall has been undertaken as superbly as many of the others that dot the city, the conversion of the Vault into a private dining space is a stroke of genius.
We’d visited Amarone right at the start of both our and its existence, back in 2011. While the score total didn’t really speak of thrills, it’s a place we rather enjoyed and indeed visited quite a number of times in the following months. I recently noticed they offered breakfast, so when I was passing and in need I thought I’d give things a try.
The portions at Amarone are very generous and the food is as good as you would expect from this Italian George Street institution with a reputation for decent food. I would still heartily recommend popping in if you are in the mood for a good ol’ Italian feast!
Love this restaurant the chocolate half frozen mousse is absolutely to die for! The restaurant is always buzzing and the mocktails are just ace! The focaccia bread cannot be faulted and the pizzas are so fresh and filled with flavour it's a different way to have pizza, and the pasta dishes are so filled with flavour you can't help but finish what's in your plate!
We visited Amarone on a Friday night and I was amazed at just how busy it was! Not a single spare table despite the relatively large size of the restaurant. Thankfully, we'd booked in advance so it wasn't an issue. We went for the Edinburgh Restaurant festival menu ( which was a very good value three course meal). For starters, I went for the chicken liver parfait which came with crusty bread, and onion chutney. It was delicious and a very generous portion-I could only finish half the parfait. For my mains, I went for the grilled halibut served on a bed of mashed potatoes, spinach and mushrooms. Very good again but massive portion- I could only finish half of it. However, the fish was beautifully cooked and so were the accompaniments. For dessert, I went for the semifreddo which was beautiful and chocolately ( and large again). My drink of choice was the mango mojito- tall and refreshing with just the right amount of kick in it. Overall, it was a pleasant and extremely good value meal. Top tip- don't eat much before your meal here as they like to feed you up!
Amarone, situated on the corner of George Street and St Andrew Square, was taking part in the Edinburgh Restaurant Festival where participating restaurants offered lunch for £15 or dinner for £25. I went with fellow foodies Emma from The Edinbug and Ann from A Quirky Lifestyle. Upon arrival it was clear to see that this place was popular. Whilst it is a rather large dining space, it was still packed to the rafters early on a Friday evening. The staff at the front of house knew we needed the festival menu without asking, which was good to see. We got some drinks ordered. Both Ann and I decided to try some of the cocktails on offer.
We went here with a large group of around 30 for a staff night out. This tends to put restaurants to the service test as far as timing and keeping their cool goes.
There were a good few vegetarian options for me to choose from, with my only tiny muggle being that both mains were heavy and fatty. That said, the pizza I ordered was delicious and portion sizes were more than generous. I recommend the crostinis for starters and the tiramisu for desert. A colleague of mine went for the honey and ginger cheesecake which, although nice, I wouldn't opt for unless you really like a strong ginger flavour.
Throughout the night the majority of their team were more than friendly and very accommodating to everyone's needs (they set up some options for a vegan in our group). Food was served in good time throughout all courses without error.
An excellent Italian restaurant
Often very busy and at peak times you may struggle to get a table if you haven't booked. Fortunately I have been lucky in the past as the staff do their best to accommodate you.
When we arrived in Edinburgh and went to the New Town we passed by this restaurant and immediately wanted to go there. The place is huge and Seemed so beautiful from the outside. After reading the zomato reviews we decided to go for dinner.
The place has two dining rooms and one bar, all decorated with pictures of Italy and big tables and very comfortable chairs. The atmosphere is sophisticated and romantic. There is Also a place to eat outside.
The service is very fast and nice, always available.
Our desire was to eat pizzas and choosed Milano and Verdi. Both were very good, nice combination of ingredients and the dough was spot on. The Milano was very spicy so the Pint of peroni went down very fast.
For desert we went for the classical tiramisu was very sweet and the flavor was very good but it Could be a little bigger.
We loved the experience and the food, if you want a good Italian restaurant with stile this is a great choice.
We came here for an early tea on a thursday, and really enjoyed. We got the lunch/early dinner deal meaning we got to courses from a set menu for a lower price, and the selecetion on this menu was great. Service was very good, and so was the food. We also got a very large large glass of wine which was great, and overall it wasn't too pricey. The only really negative was that the air conditioning was on quite strong so it was actually a bit chilly in the restaurant. However, overall it was a great meal.
This is little comfortable restaurant in new town good food this guys r very late in service but best food I order that pizza nduja and parifollo di pollo and 4 statgoni was good and awesome
Good service and helpful attentive staff. food a bit bland and overpriced for what you get. wine extortionate.
Veggie Calzone was pretty good. The veggie pasta tomato sauce was nice. But quite pricey. Stunning setting though.
Really nice place. Went Friday bight only waited 10 minutes with no booking, nice food and service was going to a gig. In and out in an hour. Starter and a main for about £15 well recomended
Wow!. This place is strunning. The food is great. i had the lamb which was cooked to perfection and my wife just had a pizza. I say just but she said it was the best pizza she hads ever had.
...black dress and heels the über sleek and classy atmosphere seems to want.
Vibrant and busy, Amarone impresses as you walk into the high ceiling former banking hall.
Ask to sit in a booth as they are comfy and provide a little intimacy away from the bustle.
A good Italian menu offers well known chicken and beef dishes but I'm drawn to their crunchy pizzas. The Picante stands out. Spiced and overdosed on rocket leaves.
If you are going with a big group of people try to book a table in the Vault as it is amazing! It’s inside an old safe and it’s gorgeous. However if your with a smaller group the rest of the restaurant is still quite stunning.
Dishes that I would recommend would be to start the Mozzarella fritta which is mozzarella fried served with a tomato sauce or the scallops with pancetta ham. For your main try the pasta with chorizo which is full of spice and flavour or maybe the mushroom risotto. If you are not a fan of Italian then the lamb with potatoes in a red wine sauce is very tasty. For dessert you have to try the pannacotta – it’s vanilla topped with raspberry sauce – it is very very yummy! Prices are very reasonable and the staff are always very friendly.
I love this restaurant. The place is designed beautiful and perfectly places on George street. The food is modern Italian and delicious everytime I go in. Perfect mussels and wonderful pasta with. The pizza are even amazing. It is worth the trip :)

Visited based on a recommendation from a friend, and it did not disappoint.
The venue itself is huge, and very well decorated! It seemed very busy, but they were able to accommodate us without booking (would however book for future visits).
Food was delicious and came out in great time — would have liked to see more vegetarian options however.
Due to the number of tables, it did seem that the staff were rushing around a bit but it did appear as a well oiled machine.
Would recommend a visit if you're in the area, but keep in mind that the main toilets are down a spiral staircase.
Amarone is an amazing restaurant. Is very big and beautiful place. The music, the staff and decorations are so cute. I didn't expect good food but it was a surprise! Because the food was very good, tasty and the dishes were very large. Recommendation: Don't take the cheesecake.
We asked our concierge at the Balmoral to recommend the best Italian for lunch within walking distance of the hotel. He recommended this place. We got there right when they opened on Friday afternoon. Within 15-20 minutes, the entire restaurant was full.
We ordered the fried woodland mushrooms, sautéed prawns, pizza San Daniele and pizza Pollo Diavolo.
The service was quick and the food came out hot. The servers were attentive to our needs and there was always one near in case we needed anything.
The fried mushrooms came out in a "puck" shape. The outside was crispy, and the insides were flavorful and hot. If you're a mushroom fan, I recommend trying it. The truffle aioli complimented it perfectly.
The prawns were served on a peace of bread and each bite had multiple layers of flavor. It was a great starter. I sensed some spice, but it wasn't overpowering.
Between the two, I would choose the mushrooms. However, my wife preferred the prawns.
Between the two pizzas, the Diavolo won. I like spicy. Both had great flavor, a crispy light crust, and were enough to fill us up and provide some leftovers. I ordered the Daniele because of the white sauce. But it didn't compare with the Diavolo regarding overall taste.
I've had pizza in Italy, and these were comparable.
To sum it up, this is a nice restaurant with great service, a lovely atmosphere, plenty of options and affordable. Everything we ordered was tasty, and we were not disappointed.
Went here for a dinner meal. Had a starter garlic bread and pastas with rocket pesto sauce. The first pasta serving was to the liking of everyone so we ordered another one of the same. This time the presentation and preparation both were different from the first one. Seemingly the first order was missing the rocket pesto sauce and had only the Tomato sauce in it which we completely missed! Both were good to taste.
This restaurant was amazing, the food is top class and delicious I had the Buscatino Al Pomodoro I highly recommend it I wanted to savoir every bite.
The service was top class as well all staff from the host to the waiters were very friendly and helpful
Will definitely recommend to all my friends.
First time in Edinburgh and this was our first stop. There were so many food and drink options and the atmosphere was very warm and nice on the inside. The scallops and pasta were delicious. 10/10 would recommend and would come back
Good food, minestrone full of veggie and tasty, beef lasagna with the aroma of herbs and cream, linguine with a lot of clams. The price was surprisingly reasonable.
Lucky of us, being admitted by walking in and them saw a queue of customers afterwards
The drinks from the bar were good but the food was lacking. Pepperoni pizza only has 3 small pieces per large slice, sad. The fried mozzarella is served luke warm, not hot.The service needs improvement.

Literally the nicest Italian meal I’ve had. Lovely art deco style restaurant, would definitely recommend you visit when in Edinburgh.Staff were super friendly to.
My only small comment is that our table was very close to 2 others and we were stuck in the middle. The table next to us had kids that kept messing about, but we did go early and this is not the restaurants fault. But you did feel like you couldn’t have a proper chat without others hearing you.
We walked in and got seated and it was Easter weekend, but we went in early, so recommend booking if you want to visit. Not far from other pubs either.
I ordered the pizza prosciutto e funghi which is a big enough size to share. And a Tiramisu, my favorite, for dessert.
It was delicious and came quite fast considering how busy it was.
The restaurant is big and beautiful with plenty of indoor seating. They do have outdoor seating which is available in the evenings.
The service was great. Francesca was my server and she was just lovely and the food delicious. Thank you!
