I stopped in for some gelato and was impressed with the quality and value at Affogato. The small cup was a generous portion of two flavours for £2.80, which I thought was quite reasonable. They have classic flavours, as well as some unique and creative combinations, so it was really difficult to choose only two. I opted for the salted caramel and mojito - both of which were delicious! I was really tempted by the cardamom bun and white chocolate and cherry, so I'll definitely be back to try a few more flavours.

Amazing place! Been there a couple of times now and loved it! They even have vegan ice cream, which ive tried both times and it doesnt taste much different from the normal ones. A perfect alternative to those who seek a healthier dessert options. Planning to go there next week with my friend and try out their waffles. Cant wait! ;p highly recommend to everyone, especially ice cream lovers :)

Great Value Coffee. I recently visited Affogato whilst on a business day in Edinburgh. I found it to be excellent value with great coffee and a large selection of 30+ ice creams. Cosy and warm on a blowy day with friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

The Joy of Gelato. A truly epic café serving great value illy coffee and the most amazing selection of freshly made gelato. This is displayed in an impressive revolving circular display at the door. The staff are enthusiastic and friendly and there is a freshly decorated seating area at the rear. A fabulous addition to the west end and well worth a visit.

Another secret coffee place in town?! What!! And they sell macaroons! Went along for a meeting with the girls from Metropolitan Fashion show. Eshiva found this place and says it's perfect for studying! Macaroons were amazing! Compared to the best ones from Paris they were a not as fresh. Maybe a day old. The owners had they're dog in store, as I'm the best with animals I don't think I'll be back. They sell Affogato (I.e. The name) looked good but not my cuppa to eat a cold ice cream/yogurt during winter. Central and easy access to everyone!

Affogato most definitely has the best gelato/ice cream in all of Edinburgh! It is run by Italians who take gelato extremely seriously (and even shut the shop for a few days each year to go to things like gelato conventions!) and they are also extremely innovative. I enjoy keeping up with them on social media to see the new flavours they develop, and they are always so friendly when I visit and let me sample a few new flavours before choosing my selection. Portions are generous, prices are really reasonable, and the gelato is absolutely amazing!

Hands down my favourite ice cream/gelato joint in Edinburgh, and there are (maybe surprisingly) quite a few!

Seriously, I should have bought shares.. I think I may have been in 4 or 5 times some weeks.. even in the middle of Winter.. to the point where the staff now recognise me... THAT is how good their gelato is.

Annnd, they've recently started serving fresh made waffles.. seriously, there is nothing not to love about this place!

The flavours are ever changing with 18 flavours on offer at any time.. half the fun is taste testing while you decide while half the battle is choosing what order you want them put in the cone.. you have to be strategic about what flavour you want to end with, no joke!

Staff are always friendly and chatty, good with giving out tasters and never get impatient when it takes me forever to pick my flavours.

Do yourself a favour and stop in if you're in the area.. and even if you're not.. take a detour, it's worth it!

✓ Vegan Options I’ve read good reviews for Affogato and that they offer vegan waffles! So, I had a Build Your Own – Waffle with 2 Vegan Gelato Scoops [£4.50]. First of all, I think that Is really quite cheap! I can’t quite remember which flavours I got (Speculoos & Banana Cinnamon if I’m not mistaken), but I remember them being flavourful. The gelato was creamy but not that thick, so it did melt really fast on the waffle. The vegan waffle was pretty good too, crisp edges and soft & crumbly on the inside, but a bit too sweet for me. The place is quite spacious for a dessert place, with a good number of tables and seats. It is simple and rustic in décor that is mainly of wood, giving it a cosy and casual vibe. Affogato also has petite fours, cakes, hot drinks and other waffles. Solid gelato (Vegan ones I tried) and satisfying waffles with good service.

So happy we found this place! Vegan waffles were such a treat and there was a great selection of vegan ice creams too. My favourite was the coconut but the chocolate orange was a close second. Look forward to returning soon!

Great home made gelato with creative flavours and friendly staff. There is a lot of wrong info on the internet about this cafe. So here it is! Opening times - see photo. Note that their hours change in the summer, quite rightly. But any the gelato, their product is very delicious indeed. They have plenty choices to choose from. Flavours taste real rather than artificial. Highly recommended.

One of the best places in Edinburgh when it comes to gelato/ice cream. The staff is very pleasant and will let you try a spoonful if you're really indecisive. Great variety of flavours most of which are lactose free. Good tea and cakes selection too. Bonus points for pet friendliness.

I had vegan waffles topped with gelato (also vegan) at Affogato and it was absolutely divine. This place is without question where good vegans go when we die.

Without a doubt my favourite gelato/ice cream shop in Edinburgh. I'm sure I've been in 4 or 5 times some weeks.. even throughout the Winter.. the fact the flavours change on a regular basis and they're always coming up with new flavours does a lot to tempt me across town. They've recently started serving fresh made waffles.. seriously, there is nothing not to love about this place! You can even design your own sundae!! With 18 flavours on offer at any time.. half the fun is taste testing while you decide while half the battle is choosing what order you want them put in the cone.. you have to be strategic about what flavour you want to end with, no joke! Staff are always friendly and chatty, good with giving out tasters and never get impatient when it takes me forever to pick my flavours. So delicious, so natural and yummy...and such reasonable prices. Best ice cream I've tasted since moving here four years ago. I am just a wee bit sorry it took us so long to find it. Kids and pets friendly, great music always in the background and that is just to start with because the people working there make you feel really welcome. I do believe this is our new if not one and only ice-cream, supplier from now on.

Amazing ice cream choices. Plenty of gluten free and dairy free options. Tea came in a pot. I hear the waffles are amazing, good cake selection. Dog friendly, hours are changing to seasonal times. At moment, Monday, tuesday closed. Wed Thursday 11am to 7pm. I was able to get a reply with hours on Facebook fairly quickly.

This is a lovely little gelato shop. They make their gelato or ice cream fresh everyday and the quality shows. They allow you to taste the flavours before you choose which is great as the selection is always brilliant. The flavours really do taste as they should, fresh and natural. This really is some of the best ice cream I have had outside of Italy. There is a little seated area inside and they do coffee and cakes also but the star of the show is the ice cream.

A nice little cafe with friendly staff. The ice-cream is yummy and there's a wide selection of flavours. Granted, the ice-cream here is not as quite as good as the ice-cream parlour in the Old Town. Also dog-friendly and a good amount of space to sit in the back.

Absolutely delicious ice cream with gorgeous flavours. Not that nice a place to sit in but very highly recommended simply for the real ice cream on offer. Prices are reasonable and coffee and other things on offer. Not that many different choices available.

Awesome selection of fresh ice creams. I'm surprised (but very glad) it gets enough business in dreich Edinburgh. Always worth an after-dinner visit: especially so after a Kyloe steak. Warning: the sundaes need a BIG appetite to do them justice!

My husband & I enjoyed some really good Gelato at this friendly shop. Free taste testing is a bonus. I would personally recommend the Peanut butter or Coconut flavour. Definately worth stopping by on any day; rain or shine. Prices very reasonable too.

Stumbled upon this shop on the way home from working in a hot, sweaty kitchen. It was like heaven itself. There's so many awesome flavours and its not even that expensive from my memory! The people who work there seemed really nice and cool. There's also an adorable dog that also hangs about in there (its still a clean looking place though) which was the cherry on top for me. Also the place is open till late, I think 10pm some nights, which I love because I have sugar cravings at all hours of the day and night. I don't think anyone would be disappointed by this place unless they hated ice cream. And those people aren't even human.

I have been waiting so long for real Gelato in Edinburgh - must be natural, made on site and have that soft melting texture. There are some places that claim to make gelato but if you've been to Italy then you'll know that the real McCoy only exists here at Affogato - anything else is just ice cream. Did I mention that they are super nice and dog friendly too! BONUS!!!

Best icecream in Edinburgh. We come here nearly every weekend in the last time, and we love it. Very nice staff, they are friendly and have good humour. We would always recommend this "judgement-free zone" to anyone who is looking for good icecream. (Try the strawberry one btw!)

A very tasty range gelato and sorbet along with a few cakes and good coffee, all very reasonably priced. On top of that, service is good and it's open until 10 p.m. Ideal for a treat throughout the day and great for coffee and dessert after dinner!

A great cozy cafe that we always make a point of visiting whenever we're in Edinburgh. The gelato is amazing, the coffee great, the atmosphere is always warm and friendly. A lovely place to get away from the crowds on Princes Street and spend half an hour eating wonderful gelato and stroking the resident dog.
