Dinner for 6, on arrival the restaurant was busy but quickly shown to our reserved table. We had taken advantage of the byob. So straight to food the starters were really tasty. We had a prawn cocktail, haggis, sausages and chicken wings, the sausages were very tasty gluten free too. Mains we had T-bones, rump, and fillet. All excellently cooked. Well one if us asked for his blue and it was rare but so tasty and really nice friendly service. Defo worth the price. Would recommend.

McKirdies was this weekends Saturday night treat, and it certainly was a treat! We booked a table on Saturday morning, but we did see a family walk in and get seated around 8.30pm
The layout in McKirdy's is good because it can hold a lot of people but there are a few sections, so it feels cosy and intimate. We had the owner serving us and you could tell that he really knows his meat and has a great passion for it. The service was friendly and the food was delivered at just the right speed.
We shared a bottle of red wine and ordered the haggis tower and black pudding to start. Both starters were delicious and I can definitely see why it's an award winning haggis tower! We both had filet steaks for our mains and we also ordered a side of garlic spinach. The steaks were cooked excellently (we both opted for chargrilled, which I would pick every time) and the garlic spinach was an added bonus. Although I was absolutely stuffed we ordered the Cadbury's fudge cheesecake, and like everything else it was mega tasty.
Being a steak restaurant it's never going to be cheap but you are paying for quality. My only advice is make sure you are hungry before going to McKirdy's!

Edinburgh meat heaven. Originally reviewed on www.edinburghspotlight.com
McKirdy's Steakhouse near Haymarket in Edinburgh is a firm meaty favourite of Edinburgh Spotlight. When you need a good quality steak with excellent service, there is no need to look further than McKirdy's.
The interior is smart and simple and is completely accessible. We were warmly welcomed one evening and perused the dinner menu (vegetarian options are available for non-meat eaters dining in a group). My dining partner plumped for the sirloin steak and plain mash, £18.95 whilst I opted for the rib eye steak with Stilton sauce on the side, £16.95.
We drank a chilled beer as we waited but were served reasonably quickly despite it being a busy evening service. There's a friendly buzz at the weekends, but the restaurant can be a little quiet during the week and lacking in atmosphere.
The steak was cooked to our preference and not much conversation passed from either of our lips as we munched on our juicy steaks. The quality of meat is superb and despite the somewhat uninspirational presentation, I can't fault the star of the show.
An appointment at the theatre that evening prevented us from having time for dessert, but banoffee pie and sticky toffee pudding are amongst the usual suspects on the sweet menu. We have also had the burgers from McKirdy's which are very satisfying, as is the chicken dishes, but it's the steaks that get my vote every visit. They also do a kiddies menu.
McKirdy's is only a short hop from Haymarket station and is perfect at any time of the year, but really popular with pre-rubgy crowds, so be sure to book ahead when there is an event on at Murrayfield.

Advertised as "Edinburgh's only Steakhouse owned & supplied by Award Winning butchers" you know you are in for a treat! The food is exceptionally cooked to perfection and attractively presented. Not only do they specialize in steaks, they also serve traditional Scottish dishes as well. The award winning haggis comes highly recommended!

McKirdy's serves up enough meat to keep a carnivore satisfied, and it is also made a good standard. It's not great, but it trapezes the line between being good and great.

Being just down the road from the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and the offices of Scottish Widows, as well as being close to the city centre and Haymarket Train Station, can see McKirdy's do some great trade. This also means to book your table well in advance.

Feeling rather peckish I decided to order the Mixed Grill, and the food that came out was a behemoth sized portion. The food was all cooked to a splendid standard, with the only thing I was passing up was the black pudding - which my dad ate. There was certainly enough there to make sure you got the most out of your money.

The service was good too, with the staff happy to help with any requests or indeed to give you additional information. Overall it is a fine place to eat.

I was in Edinburgh for a week, and was brought to many fancy restraunts. I, myself, am not a fancy man, and so when the day came for my fiance to choose a place she thought we'd both enjoy she thought "steak" and we came here. That dinner was absolutely delicious. I loved it like it was my own son. I genuinely place it amongest my top meals of all time and if i lived in Edinburgh i'd eat there for every occasion.

First time eating here. Absolutely amazing. The mixed grill was great and everything was cooked to perfection. The cheesecake is one of the tastiest things I've ever eaten in my life. No exaggeration. Would highly recommend this place.

Amazing food and dinning experience! Small place that smells delicious and tastes the same! We got the garlic mushrooms for an appetizer! The sauce was a must have. And I ordered the ribeye seared in a pan and it tasted wonderfully!

Amazing local meat, it was great to see that the waiters were very knowledgeable and provided great advice. Definitely recommend! Maybe the place itself needs a bot of a lift but you may be nicely surprised as we were. The best meat we had in Edinburgh or Uk even.

Walking in you would be forgiven for thinking you've walked back in time to a 90's Italian restaurant, but don't let the dated decor fool you. The staff were funny and helpful, very informative of the menu choices. The portion was very generous, the starter was like a main by itself. I had the mixed grill, the steak was soft and flavoursome, the lamb fell off the bone and cooked to perfection. Highly recommended.

Very smart well laid out restaurant. I love steaks and burgers. If I had to eat steak every meal for the rest of my life I would not be devastated. Whilst I began to think the wait for the food was slightly long I understood why when it arrived. The nicest steak I've ever had. I'm 37 and I love steaks to put that in perspective. Outside on the window it says 'owned by butchers' and boy does this show. My chargrilled rump tasted unlike anything I've had before.... The chargrilled taste was superb. This was along with extremely nice on-the-vine tomatoes and curly fries. I savoured my steak from start to finish and have never wanted to pass on my appreciation to the chef because of their steak before. (unless the chef is the Mrs and you pretty much have to) A real steakhouse done well with emphasis on great cuts of meat brilliantly cooked.

Consistently excellent for lovers of good quality and perfectly cooked steaks. The place has been around for many years and always seems busy, even though its a bit out of the way. Prices are basically an example of you get what you pay. for, so not cheap but worth it. It is Probablely not the best place for vegetarians. But I've never been disappointed.

Meat was delicious and perfectly done, sides on the point and sauces add even more taste to the whole. All in all, 1st-class experience in a very informal yet fully professional place. I'll definitely be back 😊

The steals here were amazing, you must try the haggis tower as a starter. It was our introduction to haggis and we loved it. My husband's steak was slightly overdone but mine was perfect. We would recommend a visit as the overall experience was lovely.

Visiting from the USA and wanted a good steak dinner. Small and quaint place with friendly staff. I ordered a glass of Malbec and the filet (rare) with Diane sauce. The steak was prepared perfect on the grill, the sauce was very good, and the baked potato nice and soft with a crispy skin. I'm very impressed.

Exceptionally good steak, cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend the Clansman sauce to accompany too. Pudding was also very nice but the steak was the main event for sure!
