Bright, fresh look. Coffee wasn’t too bad at all, great toasted cheese sandwich for an afternoon snack. The A+ music selection prompted me to write this review.
Spotted the place next to my original target cafe. The footsteps led me into here instead. It’s a cosy little coffee shop serving great hot sandwich (thank goodness cos it’s so cold in Edinburgh in the morning) and nice hot coffee. There are 3 small tables and 2 long ones to share with other guests. Guests come and go so there is empty tables when I came despite the busy service. The reuben was delicious except when I bit into the burnt cheese parts but overall still delish and it’s very filling too so it’s a nice for the price.
By the way, there are two branches of this shop.
I have ordered the avocado toast and let me tell you, the portion is very filling. They add the perfect amount of avocado and it is definitely worth the price. The latte was delicious as well, just how I like it (the roasted coffee nor too strong nor too weak).
Free-WiFi is provided and the ambiance is nice.
My all time favourite coffee spot in New Town! I love the coffee here as it's always perfect! If you need a good morning kick come here to get your caffeine bomb! The service is always very friendly and quick. Try their cheese toastie with your coffee and you'll never want to leave the place!
Best independent coffee place around George street for customer service. The team were super friendly and brought my coffee out and brought it over to my table as I walked over.
The cheese toastie with chillie jam was to die for! Although I think I gained 1/2 stone eating it! Haha
When I first moved to Edinburgh I read an article on Buzzfeed - 21 Incredible Things To Eat In Edinburgh Right Now. I quickly made it my mission to eat everything on this list (I am still working on it)! A grilled cheese from Cairngorm Coffee is one of the items in this list and being really close to my work I made it one of my first stops.
Buzzfeed was absolutely correct. The grilled cheese is the best I have ever had! It is so simple yet so amazing; it literally oozes yumminess! The sourdough bread, cheese and chili jam complement each other perfectly and provide pleasure for both the mouth and nose.
It is quite small inside, but it is perfect for a quick bite or coffee with friends, or by yourself as there is a bench which hosts a few iPads. Takeaway is also a very popular option.
I have also tasted the Cubanos sandwich from Cairngorm Coffee and was just as delighted with that as I was with the grilled cheese. However, everyone NEEDS to try the grilled cheese here at least once!
Absolutely love this place, best cheese toastie in town and they also stock a really interesting range of soft drinks - new favourite is rhubarb and rehab basil from a local producer. Free wifi, amazing music, lovely staff and fabulous food & drink all result in a brilliant atmosphere.
Cairngorm Coffee Co. is a firm favourite with locals, and yet it would take a particularly observant visitor to spot it. Keep an eye out next time you are in town and enjoy this truly hidden gem!
have recently been trying to explore Edinburgh a little more, and with the weather being as nice recently I could wander round Edinburgh without getting cold or rained on. During my wanders I discovered my new favourite coffee shop, Cairngorm Coffee Co. I love stumbling upon place like this, it's one of the reasons I love Edinburgh sp much. This coffee shop is on Fredrick Street, and other than the metal bike attached to the railing outside that says Cairngorm Coffee you almost wouldn't notice it was there. It is down some stairs and below ground level. It isn't huge, but it has a quite a few tables and seats, as well as seats on the street and also outside the door next to the stair. It also has two iPads built into one of its work benches which are free to use, which I think is a great touch!! Not to mention the free wifi if you needed it. It has a really relaxed vibe, and the music they play is so good, they played some really good stuff including the Kooks and James Bay, I loved it, I didn't need to stick my headphones in. In terms of food, it was super yummy! I had a grilled cheese sandwich which was incredible. I then had a salted caramel brownie which was also amazing, and the coffee was so good. They also had a water dispenser which had bits of water melon in it, so the water tasted a little of water melon and I really liked that. You could help yourself to as much or as little water as you wanted. This place has only been open a year, but I wish I hand discovered it much sooner, I just love it. I could spend all day in here easily, I highly recommend!!
So not only does this place do amazing food but the staff are lovely! I had a famous grilled cheese and chilli sandwich. And it was just yummy! Best grilled sandwich I have ever had!!! Then I treated myself to a peanut butter brownie, and well where do I start. Yum, give me more, orgasmic and just buy it!!!! If u have a sweet tooth and u love brownies this is a must!!! The coffee is also amazing! Done with skill! What I also love is the free water in which is always infused with something like oranges or cucumber, just gives it a different but lovely touch! Just go, you won't be disappointed!
Good not Great. This newish café is in a great location but is easy to miss due to it's basement location. Once inside it's nicely finished but a bit claustrophobic due to the dim lighting and lack of windows. The coffee was very good but quite expensive given the small cup. The competition in this area is extremely tough and you really have to be exceptional to survive here. With Wellington Coffee across the street pulling in the customers, I don't rate their chances of survival.
Cairngorm is a small lower ground coffee place, classic offerings of treats, grilled cheese, soups, baked tarts, some pastries, obviously coffee plus Venezuelan chocolate
Love this quirky little coffee shop that will become my new office as wifi is amazing great interior friendly staff - just had a cuppa but was presented really nicely and tasted ace will be back to eat and have coffee xxx
I think simply by telling you my lunch you will get an idea of how tasty the food at Cairngorm is. Having spied it on the menu board by the door I didn't even read any further. Sourdough bread, grilled cheese and chilli jam. Followed by delicious salted caramel brownie. I think you know already this is worth a visit.
Yes, yes, yes and yes.
Cairngorm Coffee ticked all the boxes for me. Yes to great coffee, yes to great food, yes to friendly staff and yes to a great looking shop with funky decor.
Most importantly for me, the coffee. Beans from Mr Eoin who is the local roaster whom we buy our beans from for making coffee at home, but Cairngorm makes it so much better than I do. Have to also mention the water as well, it's from a cooler full of water melon and it is really really good.
Secondly, the food is awesome. We only had the peanut butter brownie but it was soooo good. Some toasted cheese sandwiches were coming out to there as well, we did well not to steal them and run away as they smelt so good.
Thirdly, one it's hard to find these days, very nice friendly staff. It was one of those rare moments I've not had since Filament closed down that I had a good conversation about coffee with the staff. Service with a smile is always welcome.
Finally, not the main thing for me, but it's a funky little place too. Love the metal high chairs and the chunky wood too. Winner.
This has become my favourite New Town coffee shop after only 1 visit.
Quick meeting straight after work. Such a cute little coffee place in fredrick street, Edinburgh. I love the tea set, displayed perfectly! They have clocks on the wall with the current time in the other side of the world! Cray!
I loved this little coffee shop. The decor was think wood with funky touches. Im not a bog coffee drinker but was catching up with a friend and we both wanted a coffee so went in for a cup. When we saw the delights on offer we couldn't resist.
I ordered one of their indulgent 3 Cheese toasties and it was delicious. Funnily im not a melted cheese person and cant remember ever ordering a toasties anywhere but when you see these you know your in for a treat. Just look at the ozzing Jarlsberg, Combi and Monterey cheese. They put some chilli chutney in there aswell to balance out the flavour.
I have become somewhat of a toasties fanatic since and am pretty good at them now.
My friend got a slice of carrot cake which she liked but i think after seeing my toastie she wished she had ordered one of those instead.
The lattes were nice. Strong for me but like i said i am an amature. She loved her coffee and used the word perfect.
I went back for a second visit and had the Earl grey tea, which was the nicest one ive ever tried, and i bacon cheese toastie. It was beyond words. I never wanted it to end so my bites got smaller and more spaced out till it actually cold (they are served piping hot) and it was still out of this world, even cold. p/s the beverage in the last pic is a coffee my friend had got.
To hear more about my first visit take a read of my August blog post titled : A couple of Coffee Joints in Edinburgh
Great coffee and incredible sandwiches. Staff is super friendly and the Cafe itself is very cozy!
Excellent selection of beans if you’re into light roasts. One of the few cafes in the world that stores their beans frozen in individual dose containers to preserve the flavors. They carry their own roasts in addition to other roasters.
Barista though was not very knowledgeable or maybe was just in a rush to get done, given it was close to closing time. Espresso shot was pulled okay.
We've been staying around the corner and doing takeaway each morning (despite initial plans to try other shops in the area). Lovely espresso drinks and flaky pastries. Highly recommend to anyone passing through.
Nice wee place & decor (liked the old skis in the corner 🙂). Cappuccino was small, but strong 💪😁 missing the chocolate top, which imo is what a cappuccino is all about 😋 (option to add wasn’t given when ordering, but there was toppings available to add). The bounty hot choc was lovely! 😋👌 …if you like bounty’s you’re ‘bounty’ like it (boom boom) 😂
A cozy wee shop with four different espressos (including one guest and one decaf) to choose from. No syrups or sugar alternatives. Sit in or take away.
I had the Grand Slam, which was lovely flavor-wise, but less creamy and more watery. My husband had the guest espresso, which we were told wasn't acidic, but it was. Again, it was more watery than creamy.
We had the salted caramel and raspberry cheesecake brownies, which were nothing short of amazing.
All in all a lovely wee shop with a nice atmosphere. Definitely more bespoke than most coffee shops in Edinburgh and some of the better espresso available.
Lovely cosy place with long shared tables . Great coffee well brewed . I had the turmeric latte - delicious
A very good place for snack & coffee in Edinburgh City Centre.
The coffee is fantastic. Not for large groups, space is quite small. Overall a good location for coffee and a quick bite for lunch
A little cute and cozy coffee shop I had a delicious Chai latte and my fiancee had a cappuccino with a butter croissant, everything was delicious! Friendly staff! I definitely have to visit them again!
Very nice coffee place especially the design of it
Coffee was good. Place itself is underground, 2 long tables, seats for 10 people roughly. Personally didn't liked simply place. Cortado was tasty and service was polite and fast. However seems better as takeaway than sitting in place
Excellent coffee. Very friendly service. Edinburgh needs more top notch, innovative, independent coffee shops like this one.
Small, cozy space with a bit of room. Just for coffee, no food other than snacks. The coffee is the priority! It is laptop friendly, just be considerate. 🙂
I had a delicious oat flat white. Such a warm and calming interior. They had a great pour over menu that I will be back for 🙌🏼
Coffee is delish, I like the big table.
The 4 star is because it really was great but poor WiFi and quite dark.
