Great food and great ambiance ... really felt like I was in Mexico
Visited this place to satisfy mexican food craving! And it was a great decision to do so. Being a pure vegetarian; we could find many options to chose from. Ordered for nachos loaded with salsa, guacomole and other dips along with enchilladas filled with lots of vegetables. Both the dishes were great and the portions were huge. Located on rose street, this place is great to visit!
The best frozen magaritas and fish of the day, at a decent price as well! The food didn't take long to arrive at all. Will most definitely be back soon!
Miro's is my go to place for Mexican food in Edinburgh. I am quite fussy when it comes to Mexican food but I have always enjoyed my meal at Miro's.
Me and Sam have been here a few times, as a couple, with family and with friends. Last week we visited as a group of 6. We made sure to book in advance as it's quite small inside and very popular.
We shared the trio of dips and the nachos to start which were delicious but quite similar. I chose the Taco de Carne for my main. It was not as I expected. I thought it would be small tortilla tacos but it was more of a burrito. It was still very tasty, the sweet chili sauce was excellent. Everyone else enjoyed the meals, especially the fajitas and enchiladas.
We chose to drink jugs of frozen margaritas that were amazing. The staff were also really friendly and seemed to enjoy what they were doing, by taking pride in it.
Miro's now has a burrito stall outside on Rose Street which is great for grabbing a quick, filling lunch. They serve burritos and nachos, the prices are very reasonable, especially for the portion sizes. They chef that is in charge here, and the woman that assists him are fantastic.
Unfortunately the original chef and the woman that used to help him, no longer appear to work in the burrito stall. This has down graded the quality, and time taken when preparing the food, but the taste is still great.
This place was packed for a Monday night and it wasn’t all tourists. Before we even looked at the food menu, we knew we were going to make a start on the jugs of frozen margaritas. We went for the plain lime version but you can order flavoured versions which include mango, raspberry and coconut amongst others. These were very good value for money at £20 and we got about 10 small drinks out of each jug. Whilst not overly alcoholic, they were just right to go with the food and we ordered a second jug later in the evening. As a few of us had been before, we knew that the starters were massive, so we decided to opt for two starters between the four of us. We went for a trio of dips with corn chips and some olives. Unfortunately the olives weren’t available so we just got a second lot of dips. For mains, three of us went for exactly the same dish from the specials menu which was steak strip tacos. The fourth (a vegan) went for the vegetable and bean fajitas and it was no problem to remove the cheese and sour cream from the order and they offered more salsa in place, which was nice.
The corn chips were nice and warm. The three dips were guacamole, salsa and chile con queso, which is a warm cheese and pepper dip. The salsa was fresh and the coriander gave a nice element to it. The guacamole was nice but was a bit bland and maybe needed a little more seasoning. However, this could have been because it was sitting next to the most amazing dip I think I have ever had. The chile con queso was delicious. The warmth was a surprise but the taste was so moreish I could have eaten them all night.
Onto the mains, the tacos weren’t too over facing in size, which was good. A soft taco wrapped up steak pieces, onions and peppers with a sweet chilli jam, which really brought the dish together. The steak pieces were a little small but it did make the dish much easier to eat. The taco was covered in guacamole and sour cream. The sides of rice and salad were ok but nothing special. The salad was fresh but the rice was a bit lacking. The vegetable and bean fajitas were enjoyed. It arrived on a sizzle plate and the dips and warm flour tortillas were provided on a side plate.
We weren’t hurried away from our table and were left to finish our cocktails. We all had a great time with lovely food, drink and a bustling atmosphere. I look forward to going back.
Delicious!!. Had a lovely meal with great service at this fabulous Mexican restaurant! Although small, it oozes character and offers a variety of tasty dishes on the menu! The waitress was friendly and attentive and most importantly, the food was delicious! I had nachos for starter and the Mexican stack for main course. The portion sizes are perfect and it was the best Mexican food that I've had for a loooong time!
Mexican Food. This little restaurant is one of Edinburghs little gems. We discovered it by accident while visiting Edinburgh on Rose Street. At first I was apprehensive about visiting a Mexican Restuarant in Edinburgh since I've travelled extensively throughout Mexico. But, after deciding to give it a try I was very pleasantly surprised at the authenticity of the food as well as a very welcoming atmosphere. My family had a great time and reminded me to recommend this place to our friends. After discovering this review site I've decided to give it a great review for anybody who's looking for a restaurant with a little bit more value for money and service!
Yum!. I had a lovely evening at Cantina Mexicana - it began with a cold Corona, delivered by a friendly waitress with a big smile. For starters we had quesadilla with olives, sundried tomatoes and avocado, very nice and tasted fresh - the mains were wholesome and delicious - an enchilada with veg and bean for me and aros con ariscos (rice with seafood) for my companion. But, the highlight for both of us had to be the chickpea cake - totally novel, very light and an unexpected finale. I'll definitely go back. Shame the toilets were so cramped though. A tad embarrasing...
Goats cheese has a prominent position on the menu, making a change from the usual choice of Monteray Jack
The lamb, honey and smoked chilli combination was sweet (in both senses) with just enough chilli to warm the belly. This was served with a small portion of rice, a tortilla and a spicily-dressed salad.
This little place on Rose Street is always busy, I would say booking is essential. Five of us came here one beautiful sunny Friday evening and the ambience was brilliant! They had outdoor seating which allowed more people to eat rather than having to sit indoors out of the rain which is rather a lot on Edinburgh.
We all had a variety of dishes, although from being here before and getting very full, we all decided to share a starter of nachos rather than getting a starter each. I had a chicken enchilada which was very very good and I would highly recommend this for anyone who doesn't fancy anything too spicey either.
Food and drinks weren't overly priced either, I will definitely be back!!
On a warm sunny Friday evening there can't be many better places in Edinburgh to shake off the dust of a busy week than Miro's Cantina Mexicana. With the shop front opened up to the elements and the vibrant buzz setting in, this particular corner of Rose Street feels a million miles away from your average New Town eatery.
Ushered to our table in the tightly packed 'hole in the wall' room by friendly, enthusiastic staff you immediately feel comfortable and relaxed. The music, decor and overall atmosphere shift you straight into Mexico mode.
It would have been rude not to whet the appetite with a few glasses of frozen margarita (the lime and strawberry flavours went down well with our group).
The menu is extensive, authentic feeling and reasonably priced. Meaning plenty of thinking time required!
Our starters of nachos, chorizo picante and mixed seafood ceviche threw us straight into a world of fresh, spicy, fruity feasting. The sweet (ginger?) chilli sauce with the chorizo was a real treat.
Main courses continued straight where the starters left off. After a little indecision I opted to indulge in the theatre and interactivity of the sirloin steak fajitas. The sizzling meat platter paired by a smorgasbord of accompaniments is a party for the eyes, ears, nose and mouth! Succulent strips of sirloin steak to be enveloped in freshly toasted tortillas custom filled to your own specifications with cheese, sour cream, guacamole and tomato salsa. What's not to like?!
The other mains around the table all went down just as well. I particularly liked the look of the pork and beef albondigas (meatballs to you and me).
The only way to recover from a carnival of food like that was to wash it all down with a bit more margarita. A fully satisfying sign off to the working week.
Miro's cantina is a delightful little Mexican place on rose street. Standing firmly against the barrage of mediocre pub food that's rife on rose street, Miro's offer hearty and vibrant food worthy of a visit.
It's a very small place and feels incredibly intimate. The decor is just right, it cutely started itself as Mexican without overtly screaming it.
I had the paella which was an absolute delight, delicately balancing all the intricate flavours of the dish without anything becoming overpowering.
The only downside was that service was fairly slow. I would recommend booking a table if you want to come here.
Through the mist and har of Rose Street on a typical Edinburgh Tuesday evening gleams the warm welcome of this Mexican bistro. The 'cosy' surroundings of the restaurant make it easy to knock elbows with the next table amid the feeding frenzy. The food took enough time to feel like a wee while to arrive, but the wait was no hardship as I had a bottle of the lovely Modelo Especiale with lime. Another accompanied my eventual fajitas which were spot on. I only wish there was more than 4 tortillas worth! The tortillas were a bit on the wee side as well, I kept on over-encumbering them with delicious filling, but these are more criticisms of my own fajita building skills than of Miros itself which is superb. Definitely go.
Quite a gem of a Mexican restaurant right at the centre of Edinburgh on George street.
Food (...and drinks): ordered Modelo Especial to chug for starters and moved on to #SpicyFreeRangeChickenBreastFajitas (repeat that 10 times back to back as an exercise because that is what you want to order here!). The quantity, preparation, presentation and most importantly the taste was perfect and would definitely try it again.
Service: was a bit slow (hence the 4.5) but I can only appreciate the effort they put in to make the food so delicious.
Ambience: really liked that they tried to bring about a local Mexican feel right from the art work on the wall to the cutlery placed on the tables.
Would highly recommend a visit.
PS: Please book a table in advance if you plan to go here.
I’d been to Cantina Miro once before. Rather amusingly, it was with the Hong Kong Lunchquest bureau chief, Roger, many years ago, before we’d both been caught up in the restaurant review frenzy. I was glad to be visiting again, today.
The simple, cantina style setting is full of nice detailing. When busy, it can feel a little cramped, as tables are quite close together. This wasn’t an issue today, though, as lunchtime service was steady, but not overwhelming.
The friendly and helpful waitress brought three menus for me to consider: the lunchtime selection; the daily tacos; and the full a la carte. I opted for the former, choosing bean and chorizo soup, followed by a honeyed lamb stew, served with mash.
The soup promptly arrived, looking thick and hearty. It tasted tremendously satisfying, packed as it was with flavour-rich goodness.
The main course, borrego con miel, featured lightly sweet shredded lamb, good mash, a nice little side salad, and accompanying tortilla, for mopping-up purposes. Again, this was satisfyingly hearty fare, which really hit the spot.
So overall, I was really pleased with Cantina Miro. I can think of few better Mexican meals that I’ve been served in the city. I’d be very happy to point you in their direction, next time you’re looking for delicious, warmly spiced Mexican grub.

We had lunch there, the quesadillas and dip trio were great! The nachos looked good too. Lovely staff.
One of the better establishments outside the America's. Chips and rice were okay, but everything else was great
Btw, we overbought. This 0lqce is generous. We could have been happy with half as much.
The top shelf Marguerite is quite nice.
Located in a wonderful part of Edinburgh, this family owned restaurant serves good food. Not quite what you'd get in Mexico or Texas but pretty darn close.
I Know everyone says the food was lovely but omg it really was, my husband joked about it taste like your in a Mexican home but it really is a family run business and the mama cooks the food, she even said hello. .
We are just back from cozumel and the food there had nothing on here. I honestly can't recommend here enough, incredible food incredible service we will all definitely be back soon.
Thank you Mircos Cantina Mexicana for making our day xx
Totally wow! But, be prepared portions and huge. We've underestimated our capabilities in terms of eating and had to take 3/4 with us.:D
But food is delicious, we've ordered:
- small chili con carne nachos
- deviled chicken strips and
- lamb tacos
Can't wait to come back, thanks to extremely nice staff!!!
The best Mexican food I've had out side of Mexico, and better than some I had in Mexico! friendly staff too. Only here for a few days but we're going back and soon.
Super great find during our trip to Scotland. We love Mexican food. The atmosphere was great. We stopped a couple times for drinks. The staff is super friendly.
Good food, merlot and nachos. Big portions, nice and tasty.

Lovely warm atmosphere with friendly service. I would give it a 5/5 if they had a dessert option or the meal I originally wanted on their menu, rather than the alternative. Other than that this place hits the mark.
Very authentic Mexican cuisine. Good options for vegetarian food.
We had been wanting to try this place for a while, and they graciously squeezed us in outside even though they were fully booked for the evening. The margaritas were great!! We split nachos (regular size is good for 2 people as a starter) and then has two taco dinner specials, which were delicious!!! It's hard to find decent Mexican food in the UK, but this place really delivers! Great service as well. Really great experience.
Great little restaurant tucked away right in the heart of the city center.
Fantastic food and drinks, great decor and really friendly and professional staff.
Definitely highly recommended.

Independently ran with friendly staff, menu choice is extensive and reasonably priced.
Best part is the Mexican beer 🍻 and churros 🇲🇽
