Visited with family on 31 Dec 2018.

Pleasant cocktail before sitting down to eat.

Very friendly and knowledgeable waiting team.

We went straight into the steak course. Good selection and cooked perfectly as we had ordered. Lovely charred finish which added greatly to the texture and taste. Chips and other sides all of good quality and quantity.

My son had a dessert which he devoured.

However- you are here for the steak and it does not let down.

I was invited to an exclusive bloggers dinner at  Chop House Leith with Highland Park whisky. We started at the bar with Steak Tartare, a Whisky Cocktail featuring Highland Park 12 year old and a Scotch Duck Egg. Then moved through to the main restaurant at the large round table in the corner. First off was scallops, prawns and oysters accompanied by another whisky cocktail, the Summer Solstice. Mains plates where brought to the table and it groaned happily from the Cote De Boeuf Steak 55 day aged; the sides of cauliflower cheese, asparagus, chips, tomato salad, greens and numerous sauces. We then tried our two drams of the 12 and 18 year old whiskys. Next up was the cheese boards laden with honey figs, cheeses, quince jelly and chutney and grapes 🍇 Lastly was the dessert of marshmallows and mini donuts fondue with salted caramel sauce! And the last whisky cocktail called the Magnus Manhattan with coffee liqueur. The venue is small but intimate and a great space. The food is wonderful and the whisky outstanding!

Eighteen months I have lived in this fine city and until the day I stumbled into Leith Chop House, eighteen months I had failed to procure a decent meal, worth its salt.

It was a cold, wet and windy evening – my dining companion expressed a need for a hearty meal. I ran through a few pubs and other eateries, finally suggesting we try the Chop House as a wild card really (she's vegetarian!). Perfect! She exclaimed and so we went.

We settled into a cosy table in the corner – it was a Tuesday night, and early still but already there were a few tables occupied and there was a nice early evening hum. Our server was, beautiful and very, very good. All the other diners appeared to have a dewy sheen to them. Maybe it was the lighting? But it was comfortable. We had rolled in wrapped up in rug-like cardigans, jeans and trainers and felt perfectly at ease.

We ordered a glass of wine each. I shunned the conventional glass of red (we were undoubtedly going to be having steak), when I spotted my pet wine, the inimitable Gerwurtztraminer on the wine list. Its notes of rose, I find irresistable.

We skimmed the menu, both ravenous, deciding to eschew starters and get straight to the main event, ordering a (medium rare) sirloin apiece – mine with chimmichurri and my companions with peppercorn sauce. The sides on offer all seemed very rich and quite American in their excessiveness, but we asked for plain buttered greens (without bacon AND cream!) and our server was more than accommodating, No problem! she said, and we plumped for the roasted beetroot slaw for a bit of colour and balance.

As we awaited our mains, we discussed the merits of a good peppercorn sauce and my love of green sauces from around the world (salsa verde, pesto etc) having never tried chimmichurri in some sort of weird lifeplan oversight.

Our steaks arrived, good hunks of glossy meat served simply on satisfyingly substantial plates with a small copper pan to the side containing the sauce. Sides were served in little copper cones, and seemed slightly on the mean side. I guess these tiny portions made sense if you were ordering ‘mac cheese’ or ‘dripping chips’ and actually I think I came to appreciate their tiny proportions as the steak remained the main event, complemented by these tiny accoutrements.

My steak was perfectly cooked – just how I would imagine a medium rare steak should be (this issue can be contentious) – just a hint of blood, but a smooth texture throughout. The chimmichurri, which I smeared over the whole surface of the steak, did nothing to disappoint. Every mouthful full of flavour and spice over the smoky, meaty sirloin. My companion reported that her peppercorn sauce was up to muster. The sides were indeed perfect in size and flavour, the greens fresh and not at all bitter, the slaw simply delicious with a satisfying depth of flavour. We ordered more greens, again ‘no problem!’ and were swiftly delivered to our table so that we still had steak left to devour.

Mmmmmmm; yeah that was really, really good.. we sat and ruminated and digested as our table was cleared. I guess we should have dessert, we discussed, how can we not? The dessert menu sounded weirdly dull – a cake, a trifle, a tart and a pudding (sticky toffee natch). We plumped for chocolate fudge cake (I guess we are experiencing a nineties revival!) with salted caramel ice cream and peanut brittle. I have to admit it all sounded a bit try-hard but also not hard enough, but I was not prepared for what was about to happen.

Our dessert arrived… a sort of chocolate muffin/cake/fondant affair.. a bit confused but a nice moist texture and a rich chocolate flavour. But it was the salted caramel ice cream which was the show stopper. It tasted like Dime Bars, which may sound like a bad thing? In my opinion, it definitely was not. It was definitely salty and caramel-y and the flavour was as rich as a Saudi prince. So good, we ordered two extra scoops – which may have tipped the balance on our sugar quota but hey!, you only do these things once (in a blue moon/every eighteen months approximately!).

Our bill was £70, with extra greens and scoops thrown in for free. It felt worth every dime (!), which is the best feeling to end a great meal. Being pretty scathing diners we jokingly looked for negative points. Some slightly lame twig decorations was all we could come up with. If you can tolerate twigs in vases (and some cant’t), don’t sleep on this one.

My friend and I have been meaning to try this place for ages after rave reviews from our friends. And we were certainly not disappointed it was exceptional! From the moment we walked in the service was friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere in the restaurant was buzzing and the food was superb. Probably the best chateaubriand we have ever had and the sauces available were delicious, we had shrimp tempura and calamari to start which were both fantastic! Wine list is great and the whole experience was first class. We are looking forward to visiting the market street restaurant soon.

Went here recently for dinner with colleagues and couldn't not recommend highly enough. Our table sampled the 80 & 100 day aged steaks as well as the famous burger.....not for the fainthearted!!

Not a huge selection of drinks but some interesting cocktails and a great well thought out wine list.

I had heard a lot of positive reports on the Leith Chop House in its first few weeks. However, I’m not a fan of a couple of the other places they own, Monteith’s and Sygn, so I thought it would be best to give them a good while to settle in before visiting. In addition, I thought it would be worthwhile to assemble a crack team to put it through its paces, so was delighted to have regular guest quester Freya along, as well as long-time readers, first-time questers Kath and Jo.

Wednesday is steak night, two steaks sides and sauce night to be correct, it was so yummy I can't wait to go back again! The steak was cooked to perfection and each side was flavoursome and very filling. Great price at £25. Top tip: Order wine, the glasses are amazing!

Visiting a restaurant twice in one week says it all, to avoid any doubt we'll go into a bit more detail - Leith Chop House is fantastic.

A simple Sunday burger resulted in us scheduling a midweek meat treat in the form of two rumps for £25 (with two sides). A cracking deal for a generous helping of beef.

I loved the Sunday burger, it was incredibly juicy and seasoned well. The short rib was an excellent topping but I resent paying for chips with a burger, they should be a standard sidekick.

On both visits the service was first class, friendly, welcoming and keen to share a passion for choice cuts of beef.

Our second visit was even better than the first, with such a good deal on steaks we thought it best to treat ourselves to a lovely bottle of Pinot Noir. The wine glasses are amazing, we'll be back to steal a couple!

The steaks were HUGE, I'd half expected a slither of meat for the price but these were great value. Top quality meat cooked well, what more could you ask for?

I've no problem paying for sides with a steak, even less of a problem when you get two as part of the £25 deal. The sides didn't disappoint and an additional order of onion rings was an excellent decision.

Leith Chop House is a great addition to the ever growing foodie scene in Leith, we'll be back soon!

We wondered and had a bunch at chop house. We live round the corner so we were really happy to see a nice place to go for a fancy bunch, lunch or dinner.
Decor was awesome, we sat at a tiled booth and the backs of the seats were heated! Which was a lovely surprise. The rest of the seating was very inviting.
There was a lovely area for a small dinner party which looked really lovely. The bar looked nice. Lots a great beer on tap. But we weren't drinking this morning...
We had brunch, hubby had the butcher breakfast, I had scrambled eggs with salmon.
When the meal arrived we both were surprised at how little was on the plate for the price. But we will say this we are nicely full.
Hubby was happy with his. The poached eggs passed the test and were nice and gooey. They were very flavoursome eggs. Bacon was tasty, not too salty. The scrambled eggs too were very tasty. All in all pleasant meal. Price was maybe a £1 more expensive then other places but for the quality it was worth it. We will be back for dinner as we want to try the meat! And we are thinking first night with out baba we will head there..

It's great seeing new places spring up. In the last couple of months, a new restaurant and a café have opened where Caroline lives, in the west of the city. Over at the other end in Leith, where Amy lives, there are other interesting developments. A steakhouse and cocktail bar on Constitution Street it is not far from other venues on the same street and the Shore. One sunny day in September, soon after it opened, Amy and Caroline went to visit.

Leith Chop House looks like it will settle in quite nicely to Leith’s fab foodie scene. The passion they have for both their food and drink really shines through, and their effortlessly cool interior mean that it is bound to be a hit with those hip Leith types. If you want some decent comfort food that just tastes good, then this certainly is a solid option.

Had lunch at Chop House yesterday and it was outstanding. The place is done our beautifully and the staff were really knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the rib eye, and my boyfriend the sirloin (both rare, lovely!) and we got three sides to share as recommended by the staff. Creamy mac and cheese, super runny dipping eggs, and beef dripping chips. I'm honestly still thinking about eating it all now, it was that good. The steak was so juicy and tender, and the charcoal grill gave excellent flavour. My only regret is that we were too full to look at their dessert menu! Loved it, will definitely be back.

The sirloin and wagu are stars here. Delicious moist chunks of meat. Get the big chips for dunking into your sauce. The kimchi slaw was s bit too strong for my taste buds for accompanying steak, but good to see on the menu.

Visited here as a group of three friends, lovely place, spotlessly clean, friendly welcome at the door. The food was amazing, fillet steak being mine and it was easily the best steak I’ve ever had, sides were just as good. One of those evenings where ‘ooh try this’ was said repeatedly. Dessert was in the same league as the steak, just perfect all round. Great food, great service, well priced and all in lovely surroundings. A perfect evening. Thank you Chop House, top marks from me.

Popped in as we fancied a nice steak; we were not disappointed. The dry-aged meat was incredible, as were the seafood starters (oysters and tempura prawns). Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Great selection of cocktails and drinks as well. Hidden gem in Leith for sure.

I love the food here! The cut was perfect and juicy, and they had a 50% Monday promotion on Porterhouse (which was a pleasant surprise because our group loves Porterhouse). We also love the rump steak and mushroom veggies. The beef fat fries and oysters are also amazinggg. The staff here is super friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere is very warm and cozy. We will definitely be back here if we are back in Edinburgh.

Nice restaurant with decent service. The food was really good. A group of us went there for lunch and ordered a number of different items from the menu. The best dish for us was was the sharing steak. It was pricy, but I think it was worth it !

The Chop House is always a great experience. The menu features a range of delicious options, from classic cuts like ribeye and fillet to more adventurous offerings like T-bone and chateaubriand. And if you're not in the mood for red meat, the restaurant also offers a selection of chicken, fresh seafood and vegetarian options. The decor is elegant and understated, with dark accents that make you feel instantly at home. Service is also exceptional, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who are happy to offer recommendations and ensure that your dining experience is nothing short of exceptional.

Really good Sunday roast. The bone marrow gravy is a game changer, the sauce on the carrots as well, all done with a touch of finesse. Lost a star for not asking me how I’d like my roast and further, stupidly charging us 2 quid for extra gravy which was enough quantity to fill my ear with. It’s customary to have a small pot of gravy to drench your Yorkshire puddings in, no need to rip customers off for it.

Great ambience, gracious and friendly staff! If you're an American and looking for an American style steakhouse with American quality beef you will be disappointed. However, the food overall was great. The mussels were fantastic, sidecar of mushrooms were spectacular as well. The local lobster is highly recommended. Please do not serve cold butter... Overall, you'll be happy with this choice.

Wow! Had big expectations having been to similar venues back in our hometown. The steak was absolutely beautiful. The truffle fries were spot on and the veg was also perfect. Atmosphere was really nice and the staff were very attentive and polite but not snobby! The perfect mix of premium, classy and relaxed. This was our first meal as a newly engaged couple and we couldn’t have picked a better spot. Also the wine was great and if you really want to mix it up go straight for a espresso martini for dessert. Just hits the spot nicely! 😃

Instead of having Sunday roast at an inn, we went to chop house for the feast. Proportions were perfect, veg and Yorkshire pudding did not overwhelm the meat. The roast itself was 10/10, it had left me stuffed the whole day. The things that made it a 4 because they charged for extra gravy which I believe it’s unnecessary for a good roast and my bad pick on wine.

The Chop House was a great experience. It was our first time being there, the atmosphere was very chilled. Good vibes with the songs too. The staff were excellent, clearly new the menu very well and answered all our questions well. The food was fantastic, especially the wings, the sweet and sour sauce on it was phenomenal. The ribs were really and as well as the stake, my favourite sauce was the bone marrow gravy. I thought I would've liked the Chimichuri more as its one of my favourite sauces, however this tasted like there was too much coriander/parsley, was a tad overbearing. Apart from that everything was excellent. IPA on draft was pretty good too.

From the moment we arrived until we left we were made to feel very welcome. We shared a few sides and had the ribs, Mac and cheese, wild mushrooms and some chunky chips. Everything was very tasty except for the Mac and cheese which was surprisingly bland given every other dish. There is no other word to describe the main courses but sublime. The fillets steak was to die for and the bone marrow sauce was delicious. The steak burger was delicious as was the rump steak with burnt onions on sourdough. The language shows was also perfectly matched to what we had to eat and I can’t wait for our next visit in fact we have booked again for this Sunday!

Loved the place unreservedly! The service was not only friendly the waiter was very knowledgeable and mastered the answers to all our questions about the beers, wines, their bread and of course their meats. Not only did he speak about the products but also about the purveyors past and present! And best of all the food was delicious and great wine selection. I also enjoyed the design of the place. Overall top notch.
